I think it's probably there for keeps too. I'd have a go with brasso , and if that fails I'd think 'sod it - mojo!' Smashing Ric - love it.

Opinions on condition of this Fender...
Dr.Dave replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I reckon if you whistled it it would say 'woof' ! Strictly a dog. -
I'd be tempted to say a Jazz - for the versatility , but they don't seem to like me nor I them however much mutual respect we have. So A Precision with an added J pup and a Jazz neck. Or a steiny - use it to paddle my canoe off the bloody island!!
-
Me too. I refuse to say why I want the body only.......... ..........but if anyone has an unlined fretless J or P neck they'd like to trade for the cricket bat ....!!!!!!!!!! pre-emptive edit - thanks , but yes I do know it's 22 frets!
I've spent quite a bit of time with a number of Shuker basses, and I've been very impressed with: Dude's Doodle (who couldn't be?), Dr.Dave's fretted 4 and Yorks5stringer's fretted 5. I've got to be honest, other than those 3 basses I've really not liked any of the Shuker's I've played.
A successful career in the diplomatic corps awaits you , Joe !!!!

You think it's awsome. That's the only opinion that matters. Yes , some say they look a bit '80's'. But I never hear anyone moan that old Fenders look a bit 60's or 70's !!! Funny that.

His labrador told him to !!!!!!!!!!!!

I fancy a punt at this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-HMT-MIJ-Jap-U...A1%7C240%3A1318 I don't want the neck , though , and I'm not about to try to sell it on 'blind'. Here's the deal then.... I'll bid to a certain price we can work out. You'll end up with the neck/tuners etc but not the neck plate. I'll ship it to you at my expense. You'll pay 40% of the winning bid (after the auction ends) , not including shipping cost to me. I'm not going mad so that's unlikely to be 3 figures. Unless - someone wants to make me a firm offer for the neck - but don't let me down if we shake cyber hands , and ,of course, don't get a sad on if I don't win. I'm honest as the day is long - as my friends Sunglasses Ron and Paddy the Greek will testify !! Nice doing business with you , squire!
What sort of pickup is that?
It's a single coil jobby - this is a re-ish but it's the same as on the early Precisions. Loads of top. BTW mine's for sale - as I put a Duncan on my Blue Flower!
-
Love 'em , hate 'em - whatever. When I bought the Blue Flower and posted pics half of you thought it was the middle leg joints of a black and yellow insect and the rest of you thought it was bloody awful. I'm not a fan of the Pink Paisley myself , so it's eye of the beholder stuff. What I do know is that these are cracking basses - and mine's become my favourite gigging bass - and I have a Shuker , a Status and a 73P to pick from. This on the BIN will cost you about 40% more than I gave for mine a few months ago BUT there's always the best offer option. Guy wants rid....got to be worth a punt.
What I did to alleviate that problem was use screws in the places you can't get a bolt, and use bolts everywhere else.
Yep - that's the way.
-
If you do manage to get inside and use bolts be aware that the internal plywood walls may mean that you can't get the castors as close to the corner edges of the cab bottom as you'd think/like. That's because if the bolt heads are right up against the wood inside you can't get a spanner on them. Siting them further away from the corners , towards the middle , can have the effect of allowing the cab to 'tip' easily. It stands to reason that the further into the corners you can get the castors the more stable the cab will be - so for the above reasons - and against much of my better judgement in terms of 'using best available' I'd go for screws every time , esp with cabs having a small footprint.
-
The seller seems open and doesn't seem to be hiding anything. Inviting questions and enquiries. This is a Mustang - less likely , I think , to have had the hard gigging life that a similar age J or P would have had. If it's your dream bass , and if your research checks out , the only Q to ask is 'how much do you want to stop the auction and sell to me'.
-
I can tell you why I got mine if it's any help. Several members here (all of us on the old Bassworld site) had Shukers made. All shapes and sizes (and I mean the members - seriously) so I figured that being 25 mins away I should pay Jon a visit. I did. Though I really went out of curiosity I got attached to a stock bass Jon had in his workshop. After a bit of a chat we agreed that he'd alter it significantly for me for the same money plus a bit extra for the side LED's I wanted in the new neck he would build. It would take 6 weeks. It took only slightly longer and I was very happy. I'm also happy with the new top and refinish Jon did on my Status , though it took ages , and with the (free) afer sales service Jon did on my Shuker after an inept sound crew blew the electrics to hell - and nearly me with it.

I'm a tongue checker too when it comes to PP3s. Think it's become (yet another) fetish! Change times. I change mine on my birthday. 3 reasons It's once a year I won't forget the date Somebody who doesn't like me that much can buy me them
'Winter Cruising'..... sounds like rent boys for OAPs....lol
What we do for entertainment here in Wakey's none of your business !!!
-
If you PM member 'beneathitall' - friend of mine called Mike - he'll probably give you a good idea. I know he has a lot of experience doing winter cruising as a bass player.
Nah - I think you'll find they're cool, not miserable.
Let's be fair , poor Donald's no oil painting is he. Gives hope to the most donkey faced of us that a bloke with talent can still sell shed loads while having a face like a welders bench!! I recall him being asked how SD had changed over the years - he said 'We have much more professional hair cuts' !!
-
I don;t see much point in pushing up stage volume via my backline. I have a volume level condusive to playing with the drummer I'm working with. Guitar thinks the same. If we need more we do it with the PA and/or monitors. I don't change my amp settings much anyway - to be honest because I can't be bothered! I swing the gain a little depending which bass I'm using and that's it. Master stays on 5. I never move it. EQ's stay at 12 oclock. In tiny venues I just use one cab instead of my usual two. - master stays on 5 and the volume loss from the 8ohm load does the job.
-
I once had a chance to buy Noddy Holder's Hi-watt valve head for a couple of hundred spots and I blew it. Still feel a 100% pillock about that. I had a poster on my bedroom wall with it on.

Been amongst my fave albums since the day I bought it. Larry Carlton's guitar playing - wonderful. Great that something jazz based reached a pop/rock audience. I'm a big fan of his 'conversational' lyrics too. Good examples being 'New Frontier' - which is a chat up line set to music. My fave line's got to be in 'The Goodbye Look' where's we realise he's obviously moping in a bar from the toss off line 'Won't you pour me a Cuban Breeze , Gretchen'. Fantastic. Walk between the Raindrops annoys me - never yet played the bass line and not made it sound like it goes off key!
-
For 300 spots you'll get a good Jap P off the bay , and from the classifieds here. Guaranteed the one you want comes up here the day after you get one somewhere else!!

Is 'Headless' about to come back into fashion?
Dr.Dave replied to ARGH's topic in General Discussion
I can only repeat what Dood said. I can't think of any disadvantages , just a host of advantages. I've said before - I've sure I've actually saved peoples teeth in small venues by using a Status. Are they coming back?? I wasn't aware they'd gone anywhere. Maybe they have a strong assocciation with the 80's and gaudy paint jobs - maybe that was the trendy thing in certain music gendres , and there'll always be a negative reaction to a trend when it ends - but these days I see them played in all styles of music. There have been many radical design features that have faded quickly into oblivion over the years but I don't think headless is one of them.
