I don't see what makes it collectable. As a buyer that sort of bollox would put me right off the seller.

You might have seen this in the gear porn thread. I bought it not long back to cheer myself up after failing to love a jazz I put together. Here's a link so you can see it - specs etc. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=fettled+fender In a short space of time it's become my bass of choice. It plays better than my '73 , and the poor Shuker and Status have been staying home in their cases. I didn't have myself down as a 'retro' type gear wise , but the simplicity and basic tone of this instrument have floored me. Just can't put it down. Maybe I am a dinosaur after all. I feel a bit odd now - thousands of pounds worth of bassery sitting at home and I get all I want for less than 300 spots. There's got to be a lesson there - and partic for younger players who can't afford some of the expensive instruments some of us on here are fortunate enough to own.
That's a very good price. Peter
I agree - it's also a great sounding/looking bass. I have a love hate relationship with my Explorer but you can't deny these whacky basses have tons of cool. Cool at an easily afforded price. Hope it gets snapped up.
It is kinda boring. Kauri is beautiful i forget what that NZ guitar builder that uses it is called though...
It's something like Lancester or Lanchester - bet CK knows. My mate in Palmy,North Island has furniture made from it and was going to look at a body for one of his Precisions.

I'm mostly Jaco according to the quiz. Best be off , get coked up and call a bouncer a soft c**t then. Which would be as close to being like Jaco as I'll ever get!!

My very basic rule of thumb is that the older stuff is fine if it's not carpet covered. The build quality was better before then. I had a carpet covered combo actually smashed in it's transit box - looked like chipboard. The older stuff I'd had was ply and was indestructable. That's not an exact science though. I lost all faith after that , and though I hear good things about Trace now I wouldn't go near one again after my experiences. I'd be quite happy about buying older stuff though - partic the series 6 amps which I loved.
Beautifull bass you have there. How Rock n Roll is that neck shim.Any idea's on what vintage the Embassy No1 packet is. where's mi coat.
I can tell you that the one in my P is from an Embassy Envoy packet - remember those? From the brief time of NSM fags. I put it there myself. Date that !!! The jazz is a pearler is it not. I'd so like it to match up with my P but I just can't get on with the off set body somehow. I'll just have a ball looking at the pictures.

Not sure - but a £2 -300 fretted bass with a new fretless board put on would be a lot less than a scratch build.

Best time to announce leaving a band...
Dr.Dave replied to Cantdosleepy's topic in General Discussion
All go for a pint - say you're leaving - promise to do all the work currently booked unless they can replace you before that. Be fair and it's less likely you'll upset the remaining band members , some of which you may wish to poach for your new project!!! -
If you're happy with the sound of your Ashdown, assuming it's 8 ohm and assuming you don't have a big budget, I'd start by adding a 2x10 (a used Ashdown?). You can then use either cab separately or together and 6 10's should really give you something to think about.
I agree. a 4x10 and a 2x10 is a very versatile and splittable set-up. Spending hundreds of pounds on some of the upmarket makes is fine - it's your brass. It isn't automatic , though, that the different league you may expect by doing so will be a better sounding one to your ears.

I can only think of this in terms of being an inspiration to me. I don't do hero worship and there's so many great players - and so many great performances. Anyway - for what it's worth. Jimmy Lea John McVie Geddy Lee

Anyone else going to Cambridge tonight...?
Dr.Dave replied to doctor_of_the_bass's topic in General Discussion
I'm going - any other Basschatters? I shall be hanging round the bar, selling unused gaffa tape for thumb wearage!
From what I remember of Cambridge you'll need the cash to pay for car parking! -
Is your bass collection worth more than your car?
Dr.Dave replied to birdy's topic in General Discussion
According to t'internet our Mondeo is worth £75 - but most of that is in the boot where I put it when stuff falls off. It's done 129k miles and never coughed once It has a proven (!!) top speed of 127mph , that's recent. It's never yet got to £100 at MOT. All of which means my strings are worth more than the car - never mind my basses! It's about to go though , which is a shame as it's such a good running workhorse. So if anybody wants a banger for the price of the remaining tax - give me a shout. -
I bet we all have that daydream. I well remember seeing Fleetwood Mac t'other year and secretly hoping someone would announce 'McVie's fallen off the wagon and is too pissed to find the stage - is there a bass player in the house'.
Oh, and I took off the neck and remember no signatures. Wonder if they appeared afterwards....?
Bloody Hell ,man , you missed your chance there - you should have whipped out the old indelible biro and signed it !!!! That would have been funny as it did the rounds!

The Daphne/Maple/pearloid Jazz looks like my Strat's big brother !!! Excellent.
With my training as a recruitment consultant, I should have no trouble with this little project.
You've got a lump hammer and a bread knife , haven't you?

I played one in Electro a while back - and chased one on the bay earlier this year as a result. Dipped out , sadly. As fine a feel to a 5 string as I've found.

yes. www.basschat.co.uk !!!! There's plenty of webbos around detailing the history of the bass guitar and Wiki's always useful. Google and Wiki's all you'll need.

I think the real 'hero worship' of Badass products comes from those who find stock Fender bridges lightweight and a bit cheap and nasty. I'm in that group. The Badass has such a rep. and has been around so long it's near enough an 'industry standard'. As the saying goes though 'other bridges are available' these days - and many basses have well made, decent mass bridges already fitted. A good replacement bridge will make a big difference if it replaces a poor one. That difference will be considerably less if the quality of the bridge currently fitted is good.
Buy a passive DI box, rip the guts out of it and fit it all in your head. Connect the input in parallel with your effects loop out probably.
Just what I was going to say. Be a good project to post in the repairs section where the more technical bretheren hang out a lot - sure they'd help with the finer aspects of it.

Do you have access to a gigging alternative?? Suppose if you got a sparky to look at it they'd invalidate your warranty. I feel for you , mate. Absolute pisser.
I don't find Ashdown's silence on the matter entirely comforting.
It's silence from an Ashdown following a bang and a puff of smoke that worries me !!!

I had 2 Carlsboro Stingrays - one after the other. The older was silver grey and the newer one green. I liked them - I found the band pass filter thing very useable. Never tried a combo though. In those days I was 'gimee me a 4x12 or gimee death'. To be honest I've never really had a crappy amp surprising me by being good. Sadly I've had (or tried) several 'good' ones that surprised me by being crap. No names mentioned , but Mark Bass , Eden and Ashdown are words I feel an urge to write down Apologies to proud owners but I never pretended to be other than an opinionated bar steward that knows f**k all !
/ What so now I play violin...lol
Yes. In fact , according to Wiki , you used one to shoot JFK !!
