1. I've just been talking about Guild B301's over on Finnbass. I've seen several fretless examples for sale on the bay lately. Not expensive either.

How does it play and sound?

  2. Mark King certainly inspired a lot of folk to play bass. Sadly many were satisfied to copy his style and lines , which isn't his fault.

A very skilled player , a profile raiser almost wthout equal , I've lot to admire the guy for.

I just don't care much for Level 42's music or have any desire to play bass the way he plays it.

  3.
Mine was ok and fun to play but they do feel cheap. Save for a Sub.
Funnily enough that's why I don't care for the Sub.

Like having a Porsche Boxster , everyone knows you can't afford a 911. But get an MX5 , half the cost of a Boxster but cool in it's own right.

I like the OLP rays and to my mind there's more milage in buying one for not much coin and saving for a Ray if you think it's your holy grail.

  4.
Bargains galore! For a sec I thought you had a Badass III for sale...when I calmed down, it was a II :)
Just wondering if the Reverse machines could be fitted to an S1 Jazz?
Photo required , I fancy. Below. Bare in mind the headstock is smaller than the Precision headstock we all know. The screws are included , I won't need them if I fit the posh fellas.

The US series posh fellas won't fit at the mo. There's a ridge of wood inside the headstock hole. I've decided that if anyone wants to buy the reverse tuners on the bass I'll 'make' the posh ones fit. I do like them.

Argos round the corner , they sell router bits , 16 moneyback deal etc - need I say more!!!!!

  5. Just noticed he's got a 70s body going too - 147 at the mo.

85% of a 70's P with a jazz pup added and a badass. Think the last 70s PJ that went round these parts cost plenty more than double what this lot is currently.

  6.
Why has he bothered to taped over the manufacturer’s logo?
In case it gets published in the 'Reader's necks' section of a porn mag - the saucy little minx !!!

Would you want your mates at work giggling away going 'Look , that's Ben's neck - Cor , Wahey - look at the 3 extra frets on that etc' ???

  7.
It ended at £620, not making reserve. I think the suggestion made earlier about removing the neck to reveal more on the date of manufacture, could have helped. I'm sure the bass is genuine, as is the integrity of the vendor, but you can't blame sceptiscm creeping in on vintage guitars that do not have enough supporting evidence.
I suggested this too him. Also the information about poss 'anomalous' dating. He chose not to update his ad. I tried to make the point that it wasn't his integrity in question but possibly that of the bass. Anyway , he never contacted me again.

Shame , like I said he seemed very genuine. Maybe if anyone here is interested they should get in touch with him via the ebay link and arrange a viewing if his price is right.

  8. Right , me dears

    Onto the market comes

The single coil pup from a Fender 54P reissue in great, clean condition. £30.

A badass II bridge , chrome 4 , used but no saddle grooves cut , just the marks from my strings.
Nice , shiny , good condition. £30 , available in 3 weeks at the outside but probably much sooner NOW SOLD

EITHER the reverse machines from said 54P reish OR 4 Fender US series machines with the fancy 'F' on. Haven't decided yet and may well depend on which of them one of you wants. Again , great condition. £37 whichever sells. SOLD NOW

All items include postage. Chrome Badass III welcome as part of any trade deal. (GOT ONE NOW) Offers listened too with a wry smile but you never know your luck. Paypal , cheque , monopoly money etc - I don't care.

    UPDATE - 21st JULY

  9.
bah you were the one who got that! I was after it too but was working when the auction finished.

    Lucky bugger.
Me too - gig in Rotherham.

Try www.auctionsteal.com (BAD LINK - SEE BELOW)

  10.
I wasn't joking ... is that Up North Speak for 20 quid?
Funnily enough I thought it was 'South Speak' . In these parts we'd say 20 brick !

Not sure what they say in Wales but any guess I care to make will probably be deeply offensive :)

  11. Q parts do a knobs with various black inserts which would look great on the vol pot. Just make it stand out enough so to speak.

Thinking about the strap buttons. Where will you put them?? It may balance better on the back of the body rather then on the end by the bridge. Does with my EpiEx and others around here say similar with Tbirds. The shorter Spector head might not cause such an issue though.

  12.
A bit rich calling themselves 'bassguitarpartsdirect'... they have nothing that fits a Warwick. 'fendertypethingsareus' more like :)
One bonus of Fender ownwership is the range and availability of after market parts , and I presume a business worth its salt - esp if it's new - will concentrate on selling stuff it knows will fly off the shelves.

Besides - Warwick owners insist their basses are so good I'm surprised they'd need upgrades

Of course , you have a point though. Hope this lot will expand the range as business picks up and become a good first stop baseline for our little shopping trips.

  13. Back to the battery.

Are you sure it's good? You say it's a new battery but does that mean new from the shop shelf? Even then it's more than posible it could be duff. Get anything with Alkaline written on it.

Look at the battery clip too. Are the clip on terminals clean , are they tight? A nip with pointy pliers will sort that.

  14. I know - I've got loads of tone out of them on fretless instruments.

It's looking like the way to go isn;t it - just didn;t want to do the obvious

  15. Flats. I said that in my original post but deleted it and replaced it with the half wounds idea.

Don't tempt me , please don't tempt me. In a sense it would be limiting - or at least changing - the tonal possibilities so I'm keen to try other ideas first.

Trouble is , you're correct - flats would solve the problem in 5 mins.

  16. Now - that is interesting. Can't say I've heard that before. Being a fairly tidy bunny I've always kept my basses clean but this one being new to me...exposed style of pup too....I'll have a look at that one. Cheers.

  17. Used the 54 Blueflower reissue last neet. Makes the ZZ trib show a lot easier now I'm not fighting the EpiEx I can tell you.

I was surprised how much output the stock pup has. Loud. Trouble is it's way too trebly by nature. I did expect this to be an issue but last night it was a problem. I'm heavy handed and I was getting loads of that awful scratchy noise both from right hand pluckettes and from my left hand moving up and down the strings

I backed the tone control off about halfway which improved things but it seems a shame to restrict the pup in that way - I'd rather solve things at source.

So - I already have a quarterpounder on its way for this bass. Even more output I should think plus a bit more bass end so I'll be able to drop the pup a little. That should help.

Wondering also about using half wounds but it's a lot of years since I tried any.

Any more suggestions? Partic if they come from experience.
