I like light strings - thicker strings with more tension are just harder to play for me. I get Ernie Ball Extra Slinky Bass, which are 40-95. I can only really put up with heavier if I play with a plectrum, or it's just rock kind of stuff. I like a bit of rattle in my sound too, for a super clean sound, heavier strings are better.

Sounds like you’re the odd one out and should probably leave?

Leave a kid behind and take a bass? -
This is a made in Japan top quality bass, at the same price as a low end Fender Player! This is a high end newer Japanese Tokai, rare to find in the UK, I got this one from Spain a few years back. It weighs around 8.2lbs, making it the lightest jazz I have, and is actually my favourite to play, but I rarely do play, hence putting a few things up for sale. It has Japanese hardware (Gotoh), and sounds awesome, the setup is great too, very low. Condition is pretty much like new, I am reluctant to say that, but I cannot find any marks - it’s never left the house. Collection from Ripon is preferred (junction 50 A1) but could post if really needed (need to find someone that insures). If this doesn’t sell, then it makes the decision for me about keeping it!

Tokai AJB-118 (and other newer Tokai)
thedontcarebear replied to thedontcarebear's topic in Bass Guitars
I’ve never owned a Korean one to be honest, just higher end Japanese, but it’s good to hear they are decent too. -
I weighed this, it’s just over 8lbs, and my intentions were to put it up for sale. But I just can’t! Look at it! And it plays nicer than anything else too. So I thought I’d stick a picture of it on here. Anyone else got any “modern” Tokai? I’ve owned loads of the basses and guitars over the years, regret selling a few, but this one is awesome. Plus look at that burst, now I know why I stared at the pictures of it online for ages before I got it a few years back.

I think it must be almost impossible to avoid, this has rarely been used but still has it, most of its life it was in the case with those little packs to soak up humidity. And it’s not been exposed to massively changing temperatures. Great bass, up there with a custom shop, but I have 4 jazzes in total right now and another being built, due at the end of the year. And I don’t even play out the house anymore!

Hair length a requirement for this band

Ahh nothing more rock than being told what haircut to have and what to wear. -
Weight = 9.4lbs (with covers on) This is one of 46 made with the limited edition Neck Plate on (see photos), so a rare beast! I've owned it from new, I got it from Bax originally years ago. It's spent most of its life in the case (which is in good shape itself), and even comes with the original outer box (which it was also in for many years). I gigged it once, and used it in the studio once as the bass I was meant to be using decided to die on the day this arrived. It's in great shape, but due to the finish used on these basses there is some natural checking that has appeared (and is impossible to photo I've found, but have a look at the photos anyway), people usually pay extra for checking. It's basically on the front and back of the body and around the neck pocket. Neck is like new though from what I can tell. Where the rear pickup cover sits, the screws have caused a bit of chipping, and a bit of finish rash - both of those are impossible to see with the cover on, I didn't notice when I got it new til I took those off. It comes with tonnes of case candy, including an unused strap, unused strings, instructions etc etc. Pickup preferred near junction 50 A1 (near Harrogate kind of). Can post at buyers cost if fully insured. Willing to consider near offers, send me a PM. Although I look newish around here, I’ve been on the forum for years, feedback thread here…

Selling something you may one day regret

Selling something you may one day regret
thedontcarebear replied to thedontcarebear's topic in Bass Guitars
I probably am not too bad if looking at it on a ratio, I’ve probably sold 100 and can think of maybe 6 that I really wish I hadn’t sold. And some I wish I had bought come to think of it. -
Now I regret selling loads of guitars and basses back in the day, and wish I had tonnes of them still, but back then I needed to - and don't so much now. However, I have 4 jazz basses, another on the way (being built by Sandberg). One is worth a decent amount, and I barely ever touch it - should I sell it to raise some cash, which I'm not desperate for, but could always do with? But it's my only American Jazz, and is starting to age nicely - and will go up in value. Anyone got any examples of regret to stop me doing it?!

Just ordered this from Mark at Bass Direct.... Will be the third Sandberg I've owned, sold the original one I had, but the 2nd is my favourite bass ever.
