1. Yeah, it was March 1982, just read up on it again, you can look here for serial numbers to see when yours is actually from.... http://freespace.virgin.net/john.blackman4/serial.htm
2. But still, Fender Japan didn't exist until March 1982, anyone know how that could be a 1981 Japanese Fender?
3. How can you have a 1981 Japanese Fender? I thought they only started Fender in Japan in March 1982, with production beginning in April 1982?!
4. Yeah could be! I bought a Warwick Dolphin years ago, and it came in a came just identical to that, but was actually shaped more for a streamer, so I sold it and got something else. Anyway, sorry for going off topic, nice bass!
5. I swear I used to own that case! Did you buy the case from ebay years ago?
6. How come the fret inlays are blocks on those pictures? But they weren't before?
7.
Really nice example!!! I've been keeping my eyes open for any '83 fenders, just because its by birth year thats all haha Si
I was born 11 months before this one, exactly if the neck date is correct and it's the 29th.
8. Just got this yesterday, cleaned it a bit today and changed strings, some pictures are a bit dark as the weather got gloomy! Pictures taken inside were before I cleaned.
9.
If it's actual "pitting" then that usually means the plating has come off the metal beneath. You can't really clean that. Don't use anything abrasive or you'll make it worse. Any general polish (e.g. Mr Sheen etc.) on a soft cloth will buff things up a little but you won't get rid of the pitting I'm afraid.
I just left it, polished it a tiny bit, but this one JV I picked up yesterday is awesome now, gonna go take some pics outside, then maybe start on another bass I picked up.
10.
New hardware?
Not really going to do that to a very early JV Fender Squire am I?!
11. Is there any way to clean pitting on hardware?
12.

Surely it's a good thing, naturally relic means just play it a lot?
13.
Does the no-name bass have anything on it at all, country of manufacture or a serial number, perhaps?
That bass is pretty new, I've been told by a few places that Tokai made them.
14. I literally only got back 30 minutes ago, I want to clean the 2 new (to me) ones up a bit then I'll compare properly, the JV has a badass on it too, and I noticed with the JV that the tuners go the other way (strings are strung correctly though), but on the back of them the spiral bit thingy (that's a technical term) is the other way round to most basses I've played.
15. The one on the left (or top) is a no-name one, which is very nice, the middle is the MIJ Fender, and the last is the Fender Squier JV.
16. Went to try a MIJ P Bass and the dude had a JV Squier too, so bought them both, with a couple of cases! Will put some pics up in a bit if people are interested.
17. Might go look at one soon, anything I should look for? It has F+ 6 digits for the serial number, which works out okay. Should it have crafted in Japan on the base of the neck or anything like that?
18. I played in a very varied band, so both, fingers when I can though.
19. Actually, I just took this to practice and it was awesome, so removed from sale for the time being!
20. However, just trying it, it does sound very very nice indeed, might keep it as a normal backup incase the SWR goes down if it doesn't sell.
21. Just arrived at mine, to tell the truth I've not even tried it, I advertised for something lightweight, was offered this, but it's arrived and it's definately not lightweight, making it a bit pointless for me, I might as well just take my SWR everywhere. I will test it in a bit, but I am sure it works fine. £280 shipped to mainland UK, which is exactly what I paid, comes with a couple of modified rack ears so you can rack it if needed, has a few battle scars, but isn't in terrible shape.
