Thanks RB. It does help, thank you.

Cheers Cuzzie. It’s really great to hear examples of world class service, as it is these days more important than ever. I really like the passion that the owner shows as well. I love his enthusiasm. I am stuck with a strange set of circumstances to negotiate though which is why I can’t try the basses in question. However distance selling regulations afford me some protection I guess. Having sent one bass back this week as it had high 8th and 9th frets and buzzed badly I don’t want to become a serial bass returner.😀 I would like to thank everyone for their comments, they have been helpful and I appreciate the time taken to respond.

Thanks for your comments Deedee. In all the reviews I have read the only real criticism, apart from personal preference, has tended to be the price. The Ultras are expensive but every reviewer commented on how amazing they sound, even Stuart Clayton who really knows his stuff. I am therefore very much erring on the side of the Fender.

I much prefer the sound of Fender basses in general. They sound familiar. I guess it’s because they are on so many recordings. One thing they don’t lack is character. Whether you like the build quality, the design or the instruments themselves ( or not) they do have a heritage and a degree of kudos. Take G and L as an example. Leo Fender always claimed that they were the best guitars he’d ever made, and yet the company is relatively unknown by comparison to Fender and Musicman. Build quality wise that statement is probably true but having made such iconic sounding instruments like the J,P and the Stingray, the G and L models never quite developed the same following. I wonder whether that was something to do with their sound, being a sort of Fender/Musicman hybrid. I think we all have an idea what we want to sound like as players; If we didn’t why would ‘we’ spend lots of money on trying to find our Holy Grail amps and basses. Thinking about Sandberg for a moment. Impeccable build quality. Fairly generic designs, but for me in the most important area, character, they seem to lack something. Yes they look great, but they don’t really wow me sound wise. Plenty will disagree but that’s just my take, and probably the reason why I can’t see myself owning one.

There is a reason why I can’t, unfortunately.

The Sandbergs and Ultras seem to be similarly priced, maybe the Sandbergs are slightly cheaper. I must have watched a dozen video demos today and sadly I just don’t like how the SB’s sound. I much prefer the active Fender basses, maybe I am just used to that sound but it’s definitely more pleasant to my ears. Thanks to everyone for their contributions!

Thanks everyone this is helpful. I am with you on the Sandberg build quality and to be honest that’s entirely what I would expect, but the Fender Ultra sounds much better to my ears. I have played and heard a couple of Sadowskys ( my best mate manages a bass department in a shop in the NW of England) and I was very underwhelmed to be honest. Fretmeister, huge Bobby Vega fan here, what an absolute monster he is!

Thank you for your comments. Based on sound alone though the Ultra seems much sweeter and warmer. The Sandbergs can sound a little sterile to my ears at least.

Struggling a little bit to make a choice here. The new Fender Ultra basses look and sound amazing online as do the Sandberg basses, but I am really interested in people’s experience of the two as online videos are often doctored and compressed etc. I am leaning towards Sandberg at the moment as I believe the build quality will probably be hard to beat. Any insights will be very welcome! Thanks in advance.

Yes Bill, that’s how I use it at least.

I bought this bass a few weeks ago from a gentleman on here. I am not sure of its age, I guess around 8 years, but for a used bass it’s in good condition. One or two very minor marks on the body and some light scratches on the surface but nothing that’s easy to see or photograph, basically just light wear and tear. The neck looks as new and plays nicely. I believe these instruments were very highly regarded being the Indonesian version of the top of the range(at the time) 2024. I am fairly sure the pickups are exactly the same ones as fitted to the much more expensive 2024 and I also believe that the 1024 adopts some of the same construction techniques as its big brother. As passive basses go this is a pretty fantastic instrument and it sounds good right the way through from front to back pick ups. It is definitely a warmer more vintage sounding instrument which should be good in live and recording environments. My own personal preference is for active basses which is the only reason I want to move this on. Whilst I would prefer a sale I would be happy to trade this for something of equivalent value like a nice Ibanez SR 4 string. However condition must be good and the spec/quality comparable please. The action here is medium ish and is set to my preference, it could definitely be lowered as required. The bass didn’t come with a gig bag but I will include a basic one as part of the sale. Socially distanced collection is possible, otherwise the bass can be sent by suitable courier, the cost of which can be negotiated. Cheers.

I bought a Bass Collection Power Bass around 6 weeks ago and have barely used it since I purchased a Yamaha BB 1024 on here. I must say that as P basses go it really is an excellent instrument. This particular one is a very dark green with a mint pick guard and matching headstock. It looks as though it has come straight from the shop. Most of you will be aware of these basses as they are used by quite a few top pro players despite their modest price point. This one is certainly on a par with anything I have played from Mexico and very similar in quality to a Japanese reissue P Bass I once owned. It comes with a super high quality padded gig bag. If you want funky p bass tone for very little money give me a shout please as this bass will do a great job for someone as a main gigging bass or a very good back up.

I bought this lovely instrument around 4 months ago and as you would expect it’s in excellent condition. There are a few swirl marks on the pick guard but other than that it’s spot on. The build quality being Canadian built is excellent. The bass plays really well with a nice medium low action and there are plenty of sounds on tap through the Godin Shifter system. The bass comes with a quality Godin gig bag. Looking online today this model in VB finish sells for between £900 and £1000 (£975 on Thomann, £999 on G4M). I believe John Mcvie from Fleetwood Mac toured with one of these basses for a few years which further demonstrates their pro qualities. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. I am open to sensible offers and will offer subsidised shipping if a fair deal can be agreed.
