What are you listening to right now?

I've listened to this Jonn Serrie album (Sunday Morning) hundreds of times either as part of my falling asleep routine or when needing to concentrate when working for long periods of time without distraction - it's dreamy electronic music that really doesn't invade your headpace or vie for your attention if you keep it at a low-ish volume. The whole album is great imho - probably my favourite of his. -

Art of Fighting - Runaways - small label band you probably don't know - don't let the stupidly inappropriate name put you off - it's sweetly sung music for sensitive souls. This is them live 2019 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvdDXL8VYGg Destroyer are another great (basically one man) band with an off-putting name - that are also worth checking out. -

I've been listening to a lot of ambient lately - which is actually quote a normal thing anyway and I'm not sleeping well atm - which is pretty normal for me - and if I'm not listening to a podcast as I fall asleep I'll be listening to something ambient on quite a low level. ATM it's Marconi Union -

@Frank Blank he's a unique, oft forgotten talent - his wiki page tells of his sad demise. Simon Armitage(singer, songwriter, poet, wordsmith, raconteur and wit), current poet laureate was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and "Jake" Thackray (singer, songwriter, poet, wordsmith, raconteur and wit - spot the connection?) was born in Kirkstall, Leeds - Kirkstall is only 20 miles away from Huddersfield and I wondered if there was a not too distant family connection because and the maiden name of Jake's mother, Ivy May, was Armitage! ancestry.co.uk says that "The name (Armitage) is very common in Yorkshire, where it has been traced to Hermitage Bridge, near Huddersfield. " I read that "language ability and disability and the normal range of ability with language" are known to have a very strong genetic basis (check out "Genetics and the development of language disabilities and abilities" (2002) if interested) - I know I'm flirting with the facts but I am curious to know if JT and SA are related. -

Well, I, like a good friend of mine (Dewi), were Beatles fans at heart although I think I was more open to the Stones than he was about a decade ago but take a listen to one of his latest songs - I think it's pretty good Stones influenced track - he's come a long way. Drop him a comment if you like it - I'm sure he would appreciate it. -

Exile is my No.1 Stones album too! I was brought to it through the story of Gram Parsons, who Keef really liked, GP was around the villa for a while when Exile was recorded and I'm a GP fan because of his song writing and he was introduced to me by Evan Dando. -

One of to many classic albums they did but I've always had a soft spot of Goat's Head Soup but not because of the inclusion of Angie - it's the album as a whole - which I think is under-rated generally - when I hear it I think it has a hazy (possibly drug induced) summery, dreamy feel to it with the sax playing in particular. -

Any ideas what the front cover image is? A change vending machine perhaps? I like the jazz flute in this. -

I listen to quite a lot of quiet amorphous ambient droning music - Steve Roach produces way too many albums and these days I don't think much of most of them but I like Early Man - I listen to this type of stuff Eno-style "on low levels" through ear-buds when I go to bed every night - this is what I'm listening to atm - as in this past week or two:- -

I can see why you are liking this... Yes - a bit weird that grunty humming at 8mins. It's not just accidental bleed through I don't think. -

I've been listening to some Steven Wilson albums - contemporary prog rock - imho he doesn't have as visible a public profile as you might expect if you look at his wiki page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Wilson) I was listening to Hand.Cannot.Erase today while walking the dog and was curious to know if there was a story underneath it and there is as I found from the 2 part "making of..." video about the album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTrSQWnJtgQ) - it's about this tragic death - a 38-year old woman Joyce Vincent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Vincent) found dead in her bedsit in London - she'd lain undiscovered and unnoticed for nearly 3 years. -

A 4.5hr recording of birds in the garden - mainly blackbirds - made after as the rain was easing off - about 4 years ago - it's one of a number of things I listen to it on an mp3 player to help get to sleep. -
True and we've all heard it and know it. My aunt passed away a few days ago - not married, no kids - her card at xmas said I'll ring you - she didn't and I was about to ring her - it would have been no effort at all - now I'm driving 5 hrs to her empty house tomorrow. I'm making a note of that book title.

Only in the past couple of days have I been digging out some Rush - I've not listened to them for decades - I was thinking how lucky we are to have access to so much more than the music through YouTube than we had years ago - e.g. all the interview - all 3 members seemed so grateful for their path through the limelight - no wonder Geddy and Alex always seemed so damn grown up and accepting about the need for Neil to stop touring.
