I went to www.thebusbybabes.net and am now sorely disapointed (I misread it as busty babes)

Well its true, maybe they should just swallow the cost of the spread, but then all what would happen is they put their prices up to match. At least saying - you are charged in Euros, £ are estimates only. Weirdly enough, the thing I'm doing right now is adding the line: "The returns and amounts expressed in currencies other than the Fund's base currency, are provided for informational purposes only." To a report. Spooky.
Those Basschatters that have ordered stuff from thomann.de will know that the invoice is charged in euros and the credit card company will do the conversion and may charge a currency exchange fee in the form of adjusting the exchange rate in their favour by up to 5%. The only card I am aware of that doesn't do this and does the exchange at the basic rate shown on visa.com is the nationwide visa card which saved me a packet when I bought my NS upright. However I have been looking at getting a Little Mark II to go with my Schroeder 1212L. Thomann appear to have it at a decent price, but not the cheapest I've seen however the £s price listed isn't what I'd be charged, I'd be charged the € price which will then be billed in £s on my card. The Little Mark II is listed on Thomann as €639EUR which they also show as £434.52GBP, however going to the visa link above, the rate is: 1 Euro = 0.70 British Pounds or 1 British Pound = 1.43 Euro so instead of £434.52 as shown on the Thomann site, I'd be paying £447.30 at today's exchange rate (plus a bit more if I used a card that levys an additional fee) Are they allowed to do this? They probably have a disclaimer somewhere saying the £ prices are not accurate, but I couldn't see it.
Well, the exchange rate constantly changes, even if they displayed it correct to the second on the website it'd still come down to what the bank decided to charge once the order actually went through, and of course the bank picks it's own sell price. As long as you are charged the Euro price, I doubt they could do anything about it anyway.
Perfect, so I'd say £250 absolute tops, probably closer to £175-£200 mark. But I may be wrong (I know, it's amazing, but it happens....)
Ta, If someone offered me that and came and picked it up I'd be happy enough I think. this site's so great for advice and help -
Depends whther it's 150W or 300W, SM, or SMC or even the early GP7 of the Gibson era...? Can you shed a little more light? And +1 for WalMan's assertion about ignoring that dude on fleabay.
Hmm well it's 150W for sure. Looking at the trace manuals page, it seems to match the "715" (not SM,SMC). It has green carpet. -
I've got the 7 string version of the S540, from '91 - mine unaltered would go for about £650. Do you know what year yours is? Have a look on www.ibanezregister.com, might give you a better idea.
Ah ok, I'll have a look. There's actually one selling on ebay right now which is the exact same except purple not black. My tutor (who comes on this board) has me muting the strings with my thumb, and moving my whole hand going up and down the strings, so not placing any fingers on the pcikups or owlt. Kinda floating. It feels pretty good, and the muting is taken care of without thinking. Using strict finger alternation as well, to the distance from finger to plucking sting is always the same. I guess thats all very Jazz, prog, metal. Clean and fast.

2 and a half grand ey. Reet, If I'm ever good enough to warrant a plus 2 grand bass I'm going to buy one, thats not going to be for 20 or 30 years of solid practice though. What we need right is this: Those handbag or exotic car sharing schemes, where you pay a fee every month and get to borrow for a limited time something you couldn't otherwise afford. You get to hand it back after a couple of weeks showing off or intensive playing, and try out the next bit of exotica. I reckon given the amount of money I see being lost in the used bass section day in, day out, it wouldn't end up being that huge a cost either, relativly speaking. Whose got 20 grand startup money?
I've been interested in the work of Simon Farmer ever since I saw photos of one of his early prototype guitars in one of the musical instrument magazines in the mid to late 80s. Well I'm 27 and find it really hard to remember anything, and I've been that way for ever. Always worked around it by avoiding subjects that require much memory and instead can be worked out - Physics and Maths rather than History and languages. Tis one of the things that holds me back with music though, hopefully one day I've be good enough just ot improv everything.
Yeah I know but I wouldn't have a clue how to pack it securely! Come on...theres got to be someone who lives near me!
I'd quite like this, but It'd cost me more to get to Sunderland than the bass is worth! Just a thought, I've seen people send stuff through thier local music shops for a relativly small price.

Yeah, even though I said it was over-priced I didn't really mean that. I meant you could get one cheaper perhaps. My ASAT has the body binding, gold hardware etc and it came in below that price range. But honestly If I sold it, I'd want more. So, you know. Can't recommend the bass enough btw.
-
I havn't sprayed a guitar, but I have done car parts with the cans of paint and it's really not that hard to get a really good finish, especially if you're willing to do a bit of sanding down and lots and lots of little layers. The most imprtant thing is to buy a proper mask, because the stuff they put in car paint really isn't something you want in your lungs.
-
Mmm thats very nice. IMO It's a little over-priced though, It's basically the same bass as an ASAT with a different body shape. They don't come up that often but you could be lucky and get a perfect example in the 550-600 range. Considering the body binding costs a little extra and how rare these are, If I had a spare £700 I'd be very tempted. New the bass cellar sell ASATs for a grand.

Replacing pickups on my GB spitfire - what options do I have?
odub replied to jimmango's topic in Repairs and Technical
It's a shame the ASATs arn't the most comfortable, heavy too. I did find a grippy strap and using the bottom button gets rid of most of the neck dive, you can also get another button that fits onto the neck plate which apprently gets rid of it all together.
