Hey, You might be right, I think its uniqueness was one of the things that attracted me to it, but it does put it slightly into the niche market on the wrong side of 1K. To be honest I’m in no particular rush to sell it, my ideal would be someone to come up with an interesting trade which would give me a new toy to play with for a while. I suspect the right thing to do is keep hold of if for quite a few years and ensure it keeps its condition.

Hello all I think I've decided to move on the Fretless Ricky that I bought from Happy Jack here. It is not getting the play time it deserves and whilst I was thinking about holding on to it as an investment piece my better half dictates one in one out so I guess that’s that. Happy Jack is 1000 times more knowledgeable than me so I'll use his words to describe it: "Fretless Ricky’s didn’t get into the catalogue until 1984, so this one was a factory special order. It has red dot markers down the binding which seems to be unique; I’ve never seen these on any other Ricky anyway. The phenolic fingerboard has a phenomenal mwah and is completely unmarked. The bass is complete right down to the original horse-shoe pickup cover, and of course comes in the original Rickenbacker hard case. This is just a lovely, lovely instrument. It weighs a lot less than the two basses listed above, but it’s still over 9 lbs and my quest for lightness knows no bounds." -- Happy Jack The original detailed pictures are here: pictures Original thread here I used it to record the song "secret steps" available here (probably not the best example of its capabilities) Since owning the bass it hasn't been outside the music room or studio. Now, I'm based in London and don't really want to post this thing, but will if I have to. I'm completely open to trades, with cash going either way, or a straight sale – you can see I bought it for £1200 in August 2010. I think Ricky prices have probably moved a bit since then but not by much.

Hi all, I've been playing in a band for about 6 months now, we've got a few gigs under our belt and just got two decent recordings uploaded to myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thelostcavalry If you have a moment check it out (and befriend us). Secret Steps recorded using my Fretless Rickenbacker and EBS Microbass. Oh Sally using my G&L ASAT straight into the desk.

Coated Strings - How Long Does The Coating Last?
odub replied to Hot Tub's topic in Accessories and Misc
I use the dr black ones, I'm not 100% sure how it works, but it's something along the lines or skin cells, grease and grime getting into the string. Using a pick all the parts you touch, and 95% of the string remains coated, so I suspect retains it's zing. Strings sound fine to me, even where really battered. -
Coated Strings - How Long Does The Coating Last?
Why don't coated bass strings retain their coating when you play them with a pick? There are coated guitar strings available and nearly every guitarist uses a pick and you don't hear of any problems with them.
I use coated on guitar and they lose the covering pretty quickly when using a pick, I think it's just accepted. -
Thats a great idea, but it needs perpex so that you can see the valve glow!
I would never have accepted that mate. Stand up for yourself.
Well it crossed my mind, but in reality the chap had all the power, he had the knobs and could have made sure the sound was terrible if I'd have had a pop - we're just starting out and we'd quite like to be invited back to places so untill we have people turning up to a venue to see us I'll back down. I don't really have a problem standing up for myself, quite the opposite tbh, but y'know pick yer battles.
I take it that most of you posting here are talking about original act's? When I was playing in an original act, we had our own sound engineer that we took from venue to venue..... most of the other serious bands we were playing with done the same... and most venues accepted that this was the norm.
Not the pits I play!

My last gig I dragged my Mesa Boogie walkabout to the gig, only to be told I was going to be going straight into the PA via the house DI box, Can I not use the D.I. on my amp? No, How's about the D.I. on the micro bass on my pedal board that I'm using anyway? No. So in the end my chain was bass->microbass->House DI->Amp for on stage monitoring (I didn't get my own monitor). The sadest thing is my partner reckoned my bass sounded better than usual . Though i put that down to all the practice innit.
I cannot recommend this site enough for anyone doing any maintenance on Rickenbackers: Joey's Bass Notes (In the maintenance section under Rickenbackers.) It's got all the information you need and it's correct.
Thankyou!

Depends if you are selling it (then don't trade off the name), or showing it off, in which case reference it in some cool way.

If there is no patent then it's (legally) ok to clone, if any of the makers came up with something really innovative they’d be able to obtain a patent for it. Can’t copyright a circuit board (I’m pretty sure) Can’t use the trademarked name mind. Yes, don’t make a tonne of them, give them the same name and try to flog them off on the cheap (though if your manufacturing process is able to produce cheaper products then all props to you). Hell, if I had enough skill I’d try and clone a Fender Jazz and make one myself,

You did the right thing
