Just watched a bit of Rudeimental with Ed Sheeran. Absolute Tripe.

Took me years to realise this too. I now try to run any amp i play through as flat as possible (and I bypass the pramp in my own rig), I have a tiny bit of EQIng on my board (Ie graphic EQ cutting the ultra lows and ultra highs). On the preamp (zoom ms60b - markbass) I have low at 1, mid at 0, and high at 1. Almost the dreaded happy face but it works for me nicely!

This is a very cool idea. Would be quite interested if someone brought in a sub £100 pbass copy just to mix it up a bit.

Bit of a thread resurrection but I'm afraid to say my pf350 seemed to be having the same issues as described above. Unfortunately I didnt react quick enough to notice whether the warning light came on, as each time it only cut out for 2 seconds, but its enough for me to be quite worried about gigging it. I only had it at half volume (so hardly cranked) but I am running a 4ohm cab with it rather than a 16ohm cab (I rewired the speakers this week). the speaker wiring is fine (as I've played it via another amp at home for hours on end). I'm gonna give it one more rehearsal and if it does it once more then I'll be returning it (its about 10 months old) Disappointed and annoyed right now.

youtube some of Glenn Hughes new stuff. 62 and still rattlin oot the high notes. On the other end of the scale, Jon bon jovi and Seb bach are two examples that sound sh*ter and sh*ter through time and they're both still reasonably young.
To me the only point of these is outdoor/guerilla gigs on battery power. If you have mains available for your amp, just use a conventional power supply and plug in.
I dont the technical reasons, but surely the massive benefit is to cut out any sort of hum? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Absolute top notch guys. This is how I've wired it, and therefore it will work. Thanks for your swift replies. Fraser

I'm rewiring my 2x10 into parallel so I get it running at 4ohms. I fully understand the wiring of the speakers, but this this has confused me and I cant seem to find the answer anywhere online. What terminal is what? I have just wired it with -ve closest to the socket, and +ve the far away one. The issue I have is that I dont have my amp here, and only can try it via a gubbed guitar head so I dunno whether the low volume im getting is down to the amp, or the wiring. Its not really quiet and it seems to be sounding the way I'd expect it, but thought I'd run it past you experts before I reassemble the thing.

Very cool! All very different. I'm off to search for more about the prunes and custard, that sound very interesting.

Seems to be 2 1x10's, not a 2x10.

Scottish album of the year award - public vote.
lefrash replied to lefrash's topic in General Discussion
It's fair to say it's not everyone's cup of tea. Alot of people are in the mindset you need to have an American accent to rap, but theres a thriving hip hop scene in Scotland at the moment, and once you get over the nonamerican accent, theres alot of good words getting spoken. -
SD STK-J2 vs standard jazz bridge pickup A/B test
lefrash replied to lefrash's topic in Bass Guitars
Funnily enough, after tonights rehearsal at full volume I found my tone to be much bassier (using my identical settings as I normally would) which is not what I was expecting. Very bizarre considering the dry DI signal had (to my ears anyway) only a very slight tonal difference. So much so I found it difficult to get my sound to sit right in the mix. -

Thanks very much guys. And thanks for listening too. -
I try to avoid mucking about with my EQ at all. I use a pedal preamp/DI/EQ so the sound I have set up in rehearsal is the sound I want to send to the PA. I may just boost the mid a touch or perhaps take a touch of bottom end off, but we're talking 1 notch of a tun. In rehearsal I use the return on my bass amp so the EQ is actuall bypassed anyway.

http://www.sayaward.com/the-albums/ I normally hate doin this, but thought it was worthwhile popping this up here as this is quite a big deal for us.. My bands album 'Hector Bizerk - nobody seen nothing' made the SAY long list. this year. This will be cut down from 20 to 10. 9 chosen by judges within the industry, and 1 more space given for public vote. It can only be voted for for two days, so if anyone likes a bit of hip hop, why not vote for us. I think you can stream the album on the site too, if you really wanna listen before throwing us a vote! We're up against guys like Mogwai, and Biffy clyro so its extremely unlikely we'll win, but just getting into the top ten will be financially rewarding for us, so every little helps. Thanks in advance! Fraser

I was the most amazed at his total control over the pickup volumes and tone pot, Im a 'everything full on all the time' kinda guy, but just a small twist can make such a difference. You know what I find weird though, is that when he's back in town in October, its in Broadcast!! Thats just a wee venue, thats mental.

https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be I recently upgraded my bridge pickup on my Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass, and decided that I'd put together a comparison video (since I really couldnt find any that were a true comparison). Thought this might be of interest to someone perhaps. Recorded 20 minutes apart, with nothing in the chain other than my zoom b9.1ut used as a giant red DI box (ie totally bypassed) I must admit, although i do hear a slight difference in tone, its not massive, and the volume seems to be roughly the same too, so nothing really drastic. Apart from the single coil hum being gone.

I think Id prefer it if it had a different colour pick guard.
I actually made my own board last week from black 9mm ply. It's 12" squared because those are the internal dimensions of the Protec case that I want it to live in. For neatness, all cables run straight down from their socket, through a hole to the underside. I added some 'skirts' to hide the cables underneath, and to allow a 'power socket' on the side. Basically, it went like this: 1: Cut a square of ply, plus several strips at a 20mm width for the 'skirts' 2: Glue the skirts to the square, then round the edges and sand smooth. 3: Lay the pedals where they will sit, and mark for the cable holes 4: Drill holes, round edges and sand. 5: Drill a hole in the skirt for the power socket. 6: Prime and paint the board. 7: Screw rubber feet into the corners 8: Place some adhesive-backed velcro in the places where the pedals will sit. Reinforce by stapling onto the board. 9: Stick The pedals on, attach the cables and feed through the holes. 10: Attach the power socket to the skirt 11: Use cable ties and gaffa tape to make the underside as neat as possible.
Can I ask, what case is that? As it looks pretty much the ideal size for my use.

Im currently using a baking tray! Its not perfect but it does the job. I know others have used a shelving unit from IKEA. I dont know the one, but I'm sure if you googled it, you would find it as it seems to be pretty popular.

Not the most exotic of boards but here it is. This is how I have it: bass into ls2. Ls2 loop A into Frederic fuzz. Ls2 loop B into digitech bass synth wah. Ls2 output into behringer us600 into zoom ms60b then into fx loop of amp. I'm convinced the behringer is adding noise so that may have to be upgraded to the boss original, but no-one else has mentioned any noticeable noise so maybe I'm just being overly sensitive. The bass synth wah gets used for octave and for some long synth swells. The ms60b gets used for amp SIM, compressor, noise gate and a tremelo. All mounted on an oven tray with some Velcro.
I put one of these in my Aerodyne and it was great. I did it in homage to Duff McKagan who does the same with his basses (including his Aerodyne). Fantastic pickup, sounds very much like the regular Jazz pickups, but no buzz, and a the tone I thought was much fuller in lows, mids and highs than the stock pickup.
This may very well be the winner then! I was looking at this one, and the fact you mentioned you have stuck it in an aerodyne and so does Duff suggests to me I'm onto a winner! Cheers. I'l update when I get it wired in, let you all know how I get on with it. Might even try to record a before/after kinda thing.

I'm looking at replacing the jazz bridge pickup in my aerodyne Jazz bass. The current one is a bit weak and hums a fair bit. A few yaers ago the SD quarter pounder was suggested to me. I probably will go for this, but when looking to purchase I noticed theres quite alot of options for under £80. Anyone got any other suggestions that I could look at before just biting the bullet with the SJB-3? Not looking for anything too hot, and nothing that might be a bit 'rock'. Just a nice solid sounding pickup that will hopefully reduce hum.
