I thought it was awful. I honestly thought it was cringeworthy. Theres plenty bands out there that are in the later years but still pulling it off.... RS were terrible. I appreciate that if I was there then I may have felt differently but that would be more to do with the atmosphere created from the bands reputation and name.... not from the sounds coming from the PA.

we're on at 8! :-)

Great! I'm the bassist in Hector Bizerk! See you there!

This weekend we did a mini tour of the highlands. Started in Aberdeen on the Friday. This was a general indie crowd and we thought we'd struggle (we are hiphop) but thankfully people seemed to enjoy it. We asked about and there seems to be very little of a hip hop scene in Aberdeen so it was a bit of a change for them On the saturday we played 'the insider festival' in aviemore. Great small festival which I'd never heard of. It was really cool as there was alot less of that hippie atmosphere you get at alot of these small festivals. Superb gig. Got some seriously good feedback, and a couple of (non-drunk) people saying we were the highlight of the weekend for them! Sunday night we were offered to do a few numbers at an open mic night. This was quite tricky though as this was quite a popular open mic night so we werent too sure how the regulars would react. WE set up, did a quick 15 minutes at the start then the open mic started. This went on for about an hour and a half before it was decided that we'd go back up and do another half hour. This again went down really well, sold some merch again and done some great networking! Home last night at 2am absolutely knackered and covered in midgie bites! Great weekend! Off to belfast for the next part of the tour!

Good question! I have asked myself this many a time! Occasionally you will do a gig where everything you touch sounds amazing, but then other times its all abit flat. I think possibly stage set up and the room are the key. Sometimes everything works together.... other times things are fighting. Would love to hear some other opinions on this!

The fact also is that alot of people out there already own perfectly nice cabs... its the speakers that perhaps let them down. As discussed in my thread, I know its a bit of pot luck when matching cabs and speakers BUT IMO its a risk worth taking. So the cost of a couple of nice speakers compared to a nice new top end (ish) cab is tiny! As I've said on my own thread about this subject, I wired my speakers at 16ohm (rather than 4ohm) so I could still run my 8ohm 15" cab. I have stopped using my 15" cab as my 16ohm 2x10 is perfectly loud enough on its own and sounds great!
I did the same thing just recently too. Pretty sure Randombass you posted in my thread! I already owned the HB cab, so for £160 I got a couple of nice neo speakers and I now have a very nice cabinet! if I pick up another HB s/h on the cheap cab I might just do the same again to get a matching pair! The last gig I did where my amp was getting used by the other bands another bassist said the rig sounded expensive! I took that as a compliment!
I think the fee's are the killer! As expressed by many, the fee is extremely good value for multi-deal people or even for high value items, but for the £50-£300 market people will think twice about just firing stuff up for sale on a whim. I have no facts or figures to back this up but its an educated guess. Again though, I do think the fee's are perfectly acceptable!

Recommend a guitar forum similar to Basschat
lefrash replied to ingmar808's topic in General Discussion
im on musicradar too although I dont really get involved in Off topic stuff. Its incredible for advice on techy stuff, and theres some top players there too. -
I've always been a 1x15 kinda guy. I'ver always thought no matter what rig I run I should run my wee 1x15 DI cab just get the 'bottom end'. Now tht I've got a right nice 2x10 with nice speakers I've realised that a 2x10 is sufficient! It just hits the perfect frequencies to cut through so that I'm never struggling to hear myself. Sometimes taking away will add to your sound.

3 Things That Inspired You To Play Bass?
lefrash replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
1: my 2 mates. They needed a bass player and because they knew I played guitar and piano, I could pick it up quickly so they gave me there bass (pbass copy) to learn on. 2: music tastes. The band with my two mates (when I was 16) was things like Mr Big, Extreme, Dream theater so I got through into the deep end. My first year was an extremely steep learning curve. 3: Jamiroquai. Within the first year of being 'guitarist who owns a bass', I then studied Jamiroquai for every little bit of bass trickery I could find. This formed me into a bassist. -
Let it go. He may have just added parts and kept some of yours or even tweaked then using the IT. I have heard recordings several times that I have done that I can't remember doing or sound different to what I remember. It's no biggie really.
This big time. I occasionally do sessions for a local studio. I turn up with my bass and a lead, I plug straight into a preamp, and I listen to the song, and play 3 or 4 attempts. This literally takes not much more time that playing the songs 3 or 4 times. The work though is done by the producer, who then cuts and pastes bits from each take making up a full track with the best bits. I can get the cd and I wouldnt recognise myself. Does it bother me? Nope, it sounds good and i get paid.... cant complain!

Love the shape, Love the idea of the floating pups, but he's certainly correct about the 'knocked up in your shed' look. As EZbass said, I would have thought a couple of rails and a smallish slit for the wire would be a better design. Its his bass though, and if he likes it, go for it!

Just a gentle reminder this is tonight! Ideal finish to a day if you have been out enjoying the sun at the west end festival!

Sold a pedal board to Paul. Instant payment. Very easy transaction. Cheers. Fraser

I'm sure there will be plenty scottish guitarists lurking on this forum. My mates' guitar school puts on a few masterclasses. This is the next one. Well worth the £45!

£40 delivered? Or something close to that! I have two of these that were taken from a Harley Benton 2x10 cabinet. I upgraded the speakers so these are surplus. I was thinking about using one in a DIY 1x10 cab but I cannot be bothered! These will just sit about unless someone takes them. I 'think' they are 16ohm (the cab was rated 250w @ 8ohm) but I'm not 100% about this. This is the cab they came from..... stringing a fretted bass with flatwound strings
lefrash replied to sprocketflup's topic in General Discussion
I'l not lie.... I never thought about putting flats on a fretted bass until a few months ago. I thought I'd try it. First impression was that I loved them. 2 weeks in I hated them. I found it really difficult to grip the strings and I felt I was less accurate. After 3 weeks I was used to them, and now I cant imagine anything else! Absolutely love the way they feel, and the sound you get off them is great! I dont see me going back to rounds anytime soon. -
Anyone want or need one? Its in decent condition apart from the big chunk of wood I chopped off at a gig once. Its been gaffaed up but that could really be done properly and you wouldnt notice. It doesnt affect the structure of the unit. This also doesnt come with the 4 big long screws to connect a power brick underneath. I was going to keep a hold of it just incase I go back to seperate pedals, but its taking too much space up so thought I'd let it go. anyone want it?
Pairing something like a GK MB200 with an 8 or perhaps even a 6" driver would give you the power needed in a ridiculously small footprint.
This was my other thought. Why not get myself a class D head, which isnt a big deal to carry about all the time, and just get a small 8" cab for the gigs I dont need my full amp. Although I love my LH500, I more or less use it as a power amp these days. Money is an issue for this route, and I cant be without an amp for any length of time.
Roland CM 30 Quite pokey for bass, and mounts on a mic stand.
That looks extremely good! Although the youtube video reviews say pluggng bass into it can be done, none specifically review it for that purpose. It looks a very useful little unit though, and I would totally find other applications for it! I would quite like someone to say that they've used it specifically for bass monitoring and it works fine! haha. I'm going to be going to be doing a small scale UK tour, and I think I would be quite keen in getting something sorted for that, rather than taking my full amp around.
Well if looking at small enough to be used in that manner, but also loud enough to be an on-stage monitor, you must be looking at 30 watts solid-state I would think - seeing as it will be facing you. So from there, what combos are there with an 8-inch speaker. A quick google-search for 1x8 bass combos gives the Ampeg BA108 as the highest powered 1x8, at 25 watts. It`s fairly loud - I have one, and for home use it doesn`t go above 2. Also has tilt-back ability.
Thats the exact one I was looking at myself! I'l need to go test one out. Thats really the size I was looking at. Although Old Horse Murphys looks very nice, thats probably just a tad too big.
