Well thank you lads! It is very nice, and it covers all my bassing needs so dont really feel the need to change it any time soon. Apart from the filthiness and gaffa tape, its in pretty good condition too. Only two chips that are noticeable. Its quite interesting though that this seems to have held its value! If I did sell it and got atleast what I paid for it I would be gobsmacked - but thats what you all seem to be saying, so I'l beleive you! haha Cheers for the help guys! Fraser

Geeez I'm really gonna have to give this a wipe down before taking it out in public again!!

Its a fender aerodyne Jazz bass. I bought it off ebay in 2008 (the serial number suggests 2006-2008) and got it for £440 delivered. These seem to be really expensive these days. am I missing something? Do I have an older less desirable model? Its all stock, and it has its dings here and there - and from the pictures its absolutely filthy too! Im not planning on selling it at all, but I'm really just wondering whether this has perhaps kept its value quite well. Any thoughts on it? Ignore the gaffa tape too.... that was a quick gig repair that has stayed! Actually just realised it was a P aerodyne you were looking at. Mine was a Jazz, but it looks like it has the same issue!
-
I've got one. Love it. Does the P-bass thing really well. Plays very fast too. Looks great and is light. The only downside for me is the Jazz pickup - extremely weak. But I guess that would be an easy fix if I wanted to fix it. the issue with the uneven volumes on the strings - thats quite interesting that other folk find that. I have noticed it, but I honestly thought it was due to my own non-pro set up.
-
That looks lovely! It might just be a good photo, but the body looks great!

Heres a wee update for mine. Its simply this set up behringer dc9 -> boss ls2 -> bass synth wah -> joyo octo fuzz -> hartke bass attack. with with dry loop going straight from the compressor to the hartke. Just need my Tu-2 back from my mate and its complete! All sitting in a gator tote pedal board and case! Still doesnt look as tidy as I'd like though!

I have an LH500, and I've never once had any sort of grind from it at all. Its easily the cleanest amp I've ever used.
-
interesting! so Just to get this right in my head. You would do a full electric kit which id simply replace the originals with? il pm u for prices if you'd prefer, but Im guessing it would be an easy fix!
-
Just to get this out the way, I Have absolutely no experience in electrics, or have a clue about how electrics work. So I'l try to describe this best as possible. I do however think it may be a job for a professional. I have a fender aerodyne Jazz. Over the past couple of months the pots have started to crackly a tiny bit - not enough to bother me, but just a touch annoying. More recently though the tone pot has caused a lot of buzzing. When I turn down the pot its deadly silent, turn it up full its almost unusable. Is there something that I could possibly fix myself that could be causing that? Could it be a matter of giving it a clean up in there or is there something I could try before taking it in to get fixed? The buzzing seems like an earthing issue and it affects both pickups equally. Any thoughts?
Well, you should care. There are musicians who perform for a living and depend upon being paid for gigs. These are generally the higher-quality acts who provide pro entertainment. Every time some of us play for free ....... we spoil the market for other who need to be paid.
IMO thats nonsense. And its no way selfish for hobbyists to play for free. If a player chooses to become pro, its up to him to find the paid gigs. If he can't find any, then he needs to get a different job.

I'm pretty sure Richard Hammond is a 4 stringer too! There was a wee clip of him jammin on top gear once, he sounded not bad too!

Boss ODB-3 Overdrive pedal and Boss OC-2 Octave - BOTH PEDALS SOLD

The mouse is the key element! haha Reagarding the overdrive..... in the loop I have room (in my head) for one more sound. I was thinking about a dedicated envelope filter..... but the digitech will more than likely get used for that (the synth and filter tones are a bit OTT for my liking). I was thinkin of a OD pedal, so that may be the next purchase! I will say though that the Ls-2 is the 2nd biggest, most important purchase of my bassing life! After a good bass!
-
So far mine is kind of pathetic. Not on a board either and I'm missing my TU-2.
-
I always thought a good pedal board would be an old laptop case. It would double up as a case (of course) too! I'm keeping an eye out for a fat enough one at the moment. I'l let you know how I get on!

Bugera/VHT/Harley Benton - advice needed!

The harley gets some great reviews! A true bargain! -
Yeah, I'm assuming the pickups are nothing special, And I'm assuming the hardware is all pretty low-end too. I wouldnt mind plunking £120 on it, then just adding the extra bits as I find them cheap. An extra £100 could easily be spent, and thats taking it up to Squier Jazz region. BUT on the other hand, I'd have something that noone else will have and it will keep me occupied in the cold winter evenings!

oops... didnt mean to put the full webpage as title. very untidy! Sorry

Anyone tried one of their Jazz bass kits? Right at the bottom of the page. http://www.diyguitarshop.co.uk/kits.htm £130 at the moment. Seems quite an inexpensive way to getting a starter pack for a DIY jazz! The body seems quite nice, and at that price you could keep the bits that are fine, then sell on the bits you dont want and recoup some of the cost. After going through darkheart's Jazz on a budget, this has really got me hankering for a wee project! I was thinking about just picking up a cheap jazz copy of gumtree... but at the end of the day, I'd just end up with a cheap bass with nice pups! haha I know there are DIY kits on thomann for a good bit less but they come with a basswood body... I quite like the grain on these beasties! Any thoughts? Worth a punt you reckon?
There was a guy on Talkbass who did a review of the Roland V-Bass system, let me see if I can find it, it's unbelievably ridiculous... Here we go. The video description says it's a 'very very basic and simple' demo. He starts playing around the 2:20 mark. Each time he starts demoing a new patch it gets worse.
that is Incredible!!! Funny thing is, there was a few occasions where he stopped and played 2 or 3 notes slowly and properly, and for that split second it all sounded quite nice! Didnt last long!

This is inspirational! I'm off to ebay to hunt down a Jazz body! haha It really does look sensational. I agree with going back to black pickup covers, and I think I'd prefer a more traditional pickguard BUT it really looks immense. I may have missed it, but how does it play? Does it feel good? Or does it feel like a 'cheap' bass? Once I get my pedal board sorted, I think a wee project like this could be on the cards! I'l use this thread to draw inspiration!
-
ah good. Im not alone! Just for balance i should mention there are a few reviews that are very good who stick to a loop or atleast basic noodling. So i might have been stretching it by saying ALL reviews are like this! A cup of tea is the solution to everything! hehe Fraser

This really annoys me about any youtube DIY review about any type of bass equipment. Whether its a pedal, an amp or a bass, they always seem to have the urge to start slapping. Quite often really badly too! If you're doing a review, surely the majority of viewers will be finger players or plectrum players so why not review it like that! The amount of pedal reviews I;ve watched that have a guy in a bedroom slapping thinkin he's mark king, but it sounds pish.... and puts me off the pedal! They almost always have that sound of sparkly strings through a practice amp too! Terrible! Just a pet hate! Needed to get it out there! haha

The behringer DI seems to get a lot of love on this forum. I'm far from being a brand snob - I own loads of behringer stuff, and in fact iv got a behinger compressor on my board. But, For some reason that wee BDI21 thing doesnt fill me with confidence. At that price it might be worth a punt, but I do think that the £30-40 would be better put towards a 'better branded' one. I could be totally wrong though (and from the feedback from BC forumites, I probably am).
