  1. Two of our band members have bought a posh pub cum restaurant that is oft used as a wedding venue and we're going to become the house band for bookings. A future of fame, fortune, and choking on vomit awaits!
  2. Just a thought. Perhaps Laurence Fox could enter Eurovision? A songster in the David Icke mould for a new light entertainment generation.
  3. They're jealous because we have Laurence Fox.
  4. A tent? Pah! In my day we were so poor that the only clothes we had were Y fronts, and at night they were used to make a tent to sleep in. A heavily soiled and rather pungent tent, but a tent nevertheless.
  5. I love the Fender with a hint of Burns and Gibson looks. Trying to think of a way to sneak one past Mrs Bassfinger.
  6. It's no problem Matt. Just doing my job 🤪
  7. I'm no Stephen Einstein, but he ain't telling me owt that I hadn't already figured out for myself.
  8. And didn't stop to poop or eat in all that time.
  9. I got the MB4 in black. Aside from one slight sharp fret end the finish was excellent. It was easy to set up the action. I like mine medium-low rather than super low, tonally its better and it aids doing hammer ons and pull offs, so I never tried to get it low enough to show any issues that required a fret dress. Not stuck mine on the scales but among my basses its just on the lighter side of average. Wilkinson tuners makes tuning easier and improves tuning stability, obligatory Warman pickup adds a bit of depth and grit to the tone, and it all still left me with change from £150. A good looking, eminently playable, and ridiculously good value bass. Slap on a Squier badge and give it a silly name, and people would pay £350 for one and think it good value. A great bass in its own right, or an inviting platform for budget tinkerers. It's a hit with me. Never had a PB20, but as a modding platform it looks very intriguing...
  10. I love gigging. Aside from the rush, the pressure makes us all play that bit better than in any rehearsal.
  11. The JB75 is a weighty model. They sound blummen fantastic though. Thats a good looker too.
  12. Ok, cheers for the input. I've mulled this for a while and I've ordered a suitable mini toggle from Warman so I can go both coils in series, both in parallel, or single coil. I've tried both in series for now and it sounds amazing, the sonic equivalent of being mugged, but it doesn't hurt to have a few more colours in the palette.
  13. Well worth the effort if you can get one. Our rhythm guitarist is an HB fan and was seriously impressed with the tone from the Warman, and those big fat poles look pretty intimidating. The Wilkinson tuners are also excellent, albeit the holes on the headstock are a touch closer together than the Fender norm. This necessitated careful use of the bench grinder and a polish with wet and dry to shave half a mm off 3 tuners so they sit together properly.
  14. I like that. A pleasant mix of looks and the functional. Not a bad price either.
  15. I'd warrant it's a violin bass of some sort.
  16. I speak fair German, so appreciate them in a manner that most over here do not.
  17. Quality of life, including time devoted to being a musician, was one of the reasons I quit the day job, cashed in the business and retired at 51. Not specifically to play gigs or be in a band, but to be able to play daily in general without finding myself too knackered, or suddenly in Norway or Italy at 22 hours notice, was a minor but genuine consideration when making the decision. I still get contacted now and again and asked to do some consulting. So far I've declined, although the latest was €8000 for 3 days work in France did have me seriously tempted (I did turn it down in the end).
  18. My 4 string model was pepped up with a Warman pickup and Wilkinson tuners. A snarling monster with a mineshaft deep tone for £150 or so all in.
  19. There does seem to be seperate and discrete "circuits", and breaking into a new one can be tricky. Nepotism can help, and a surprising number are also asking for demos as well, so we've had some studio time this to get a few tracks laid down for that very purpose.
  20. Sony headphones, Tascam GB10, sometimes my old AriaPro2 effects board.
  21. Im mid way through a Precision bass build with a mudbucker...because I can. Casting my brain forward to the wiring stage I was wondering if I should wire both coils in series as one big fat single coil, or jn parallel as to separate coils. If I went for the latter I can make them switchable so I could run one alone or both together. So series or parallel? Thoughts?
