  1. Thats the colour I use, along with pink XLR leads for me preamp and mic - takes but a split second to figure out which leads are mine when oacking away.
  2. Feel sorry for Ian Anderson. In some countries he struggled to get his royalties for Thick as a Brick vevause itmwas credited to the fictitious Gerald Bostock.
  3. Leads, particularly long runs, can affect sound. Also the better ones are more durable, less susceptible to wear and crushing, and the connectors more resistant to being pulled off. I use only Ernie Ball leads. You can get better, but at their price point theyre a brilliant balance between price and quality. I suspect theyll outlast me.
  4. Its not so much the oils, but the nasty combustion by products and contaminants that are the big skin C concern. A mineral is nothing more than a naturally occurring chemical compound. To qualify as a mineral it comes out the ground, but in many cases exactly the same molecules are found in plant and animal by products - terpenpoid compounds that make up organic oils extracted from plants are in essence much the same chemically as hydrocarbon compounds from oil dug out the ground. Its too simplistic to suggest that mineral oils are automatically bad and bunny cuddling alternatives are automatically better.
  5. I would very much like to rub Nigella on my wood! 🤪
  6. Cement is expensive these days. You may find viagra is a cheaper and equally effective substitute to give a hard fretboard. It gives a nice twang to any tonewood, and particularly suits guitars with a purple paint finish. However, be warned - too much will make the frets swell like veins, and cause the end of the neck peel back fron the truss rod.
  7. Been oiling fretboards in very sparing moderation for 40 years and never suffered an issue. If its being slathered on regularly then perhaps it might happen as described, but ive seen some badly abused instruments over the years and nothing like that. Spunds a bitmof a non story to me.
  8. I wouldn't respond. If they're not willing to to treat me with politeness, respect and dignity before I've even thought about applying, thennthings are unlikely to get better if I landed the job.
  9. Turned down christmas and new years eve gigs as our drummist and one of our guitarists are away. Inconsiderate bar stewards. Last gig is 11th December then next well into January.
  10. A bit of work with a router and that table would make some nice bass bodies.
  11. Id agree. Anyone who has tried to learn the bassline to Alright Now kmows that the guy had some serious moves.
  12. I think you did the right thing. The light blonde finish is actually nice, but the grain on yours was really unfortunate and would've bugged you for all time and spoiled your enjoyment,
  13. Fender more consistent? They're famous for their variable quality. I had to try three Geddy Lee Jazz's to find one that wasn't flawed.
  14. Damn, missed it. Shame, Im a huge admirer of the Clifton Suspension Bridge and his other work.
  15. Personally, i don't rate him. Hes not bad, I just don't think he's that good. But then he porbably says the same about me, and the nice thing about the string section is how broad a church it is in terms of abilites, styles and tastes.
  16. I met him on the 1st January, but he didn't return my greeting. It seems all is quiet on new year's day.
  17. The general construction, use of woods, glued on fingerboards or one piece with skunk stripe, pickup type and placement, stylemof cutaways, comfort contours, the list is endless. All the brands you cite have at least some of these examples in their range, and some models a surprising amount. Leo either invented, first applied or popularised many of the features on your favourite basses. You have to go as left field as the original composite Steinbergers to escape most of these, and even then the scale length lingers like a fart trapped unfer the duvet.
  18. I love it. It looks classy in a muted, don't-need-to-show-off kind of way. If plays even half as tidy as it looks it'll be a belter. I tend to work on the basis that one can never have too many PB's, and I think you may have just decided my next birthday present!
  19. A wonderful album. Not a day goes by where I don't play Sunshine if Your Love in the old bass. And this morning I have dug out... Not one of Oldfields most admired albums, but its my firm favourite. I remember a magazine interview with him not long after it came out and he said he was a fan of the heavy metal sound (I don't recall him naming any bands) and that shows in what is perhaps the most guitar and rock oriented of his albums. Great to wake up with on a Sunday morning.
  20. Even the brands that we're fans of, how may owe the basic underpinnings of their design to dear departed Leo? The man was a figurative giant in our world, and long after his passing continues to he so.
  21. Aye, the light blonde finish is a bit translucent. The grain looks pretty good on my 50's CV with the same finish. but a bit different on yours.
