A jolly good read. Who'd have thought that about the Wurzels? -
Harley Benton looks like Brad Pitt, dresses like Roger Moore, and has a voice that would make Richard Burton purr.

Harley Benton MB-4 Satin Black (REVIEW and SOUND TEST)

Mines a fraction over 8lbs - the lightest full size bass I own! Im worried about how little muscle tone some of you lot must have if you think these are anvils.- 99 replies

We're an American Band by Grand Funk Railroad is also a favourite of mine to play. Sadly, not well enough known in the UK to make it onto our set list.

Play whatever bass you like, just keep it completely off your shoulders. I know a guitarist who uses these, banged himself up badly in a motorbike accieent some years ago, and he reckons once you're used to them theyre very good. Even better stillmfor bassists, who tend to wear their instruments a little lower down than guitarists

Steinberger Spirity, 5.51 lbs, 2.5kg. Or any regular bass with a waist mounted strap system, such as a slinger strap.

I'm loving my MB-4. Its just great fun to play. So much so, I'm thinking of starting a new religion - the Church of Harley Benton, anyone? Even when it's been a poor day with the collection plate the priest can still afford a decent bass.

I guess that they wouldn't sell many if they'd called themselves Shite Guitars.

See, I used to love R4, but since the referendum on a certain topic a few years ago I got fed up with politcal bias, the whining right-on left wing comedy, and the increasing wokeness. I want to hear it straight, not spun so fast they could use it as a gyroscope - I don't give a sheet about their opinion, or speculation, and I like to hear comedy pith taking about all political viewpoints and not just the ones that the Beeb doesn't like. Hell, they make the Guardian look right wing. It's so bad now I actually subscribe to the New York Times as the least politically biased news source I can find, and steer clear of speech radio altogether. F&$%@#g politics, it ruins everything it touches. -
Not wishing to stray off topic (apologies!) but ive found that with practice, the right pick and proper technique, its possible to significantly lessen the attack and get a tone pretty close to that which I would with fingers. So much so that listening back to recordings I can't always tell whether I'd played a part with fingers or pick. I can play with fingers but suffer with my fine motor skills which makes it really difficult, so necessity became the mother of invention in that regard. I'm far form being the worlds best bassist, being a fairly recent convert after 40 years of guitar, so if I can do it a decent player should be able to ace it.

I mainly pick play because I have no feeling in 2 fingers, but when I do play with my fingers I suffer at the wrist like the OP. So if you have no idealogical objection perhaps try a few sessions playing with a pick, see how you get on. The whole wrist bent down to the strings thing is a bit orthapaedically dodgy.

They're so bad even Clarkson declined to go back to the Beeb. -
Thats a relief. I was worried those union flag stickers were hiding damage, possible tug bar mounting holes. Nice work.

I don't know about semi hollow, but it's given me a semi.

I see the cash spunking, lentil hugging, professionally imdignant commies at the Beeb don't even have the cojones to plain admit what they did. -
Hold the Line. Not especially diffocult or techmically challenging, but I love the goove on that song. I finish every practice session with that one.

No, it was a documentary about Justin Trudeau. -
I imagine the elusive Harley Benton is like the man from Del Monte. Middle aged, dark and mysterious, tropical weight suit and straw boater, fondness for ladyboys. Ay yes, the man will be a class act.

Holy Mary Mother of Boris - and there was me thinking the original was dire!

There's a Harley Benton forum? Is it also good value and perform beyond it's price point? Is the mysterious Mr Benton an admin?

Theyve got enough money to pay that silly pecker Linekar though. The sooner the licence fee is abolished, the better. -
^^^ see, that one is the same as the black models.
