He clearly remembers what happened last time someone upset the Germans.

They've had some very good reviews.
-
I think its probably just an olde picture. I can't see why they'd make a fractionally different version of the same instrument solely so they couldmpaint it black. Is there a burst MB4 owner out there who could slap up a pic?
-
In the pictures the standard MB4 looks fractionally different to the black one...pickup in a slightly different position, slightly different shape to the pickguard. I don't know if theats an old pic that Thomann are using or if it really is different to the black one. Certainly theyre both Basswood, same pickups, etc.

Well, if nothing else theyre getting a bit of practice.

Harley Benton MB-4 Satin Black (REVIEW and SOUND TEST)
Bassfinger replied to dave84's topic in Bass Guitars
Ive been eyeing those pickups myself, and youve made up my mind for me. I've already got a set of D'Addario chromes on the way. Do you have a pic of the rear of the original pickup?- 99 replies

It just feels great in the hands Stew. The moment you pick it up you get a frisson of pleasure because it just feels so complete. I mean, it pkays very well indeed and sounds very decent (im particularly susprised at the pickup's output) but its the indefinable feel of the thing that puts it several classes above the asking price. Honestly, if they slapped a fancy brand name on the headstock and charged £400 then no thinking player would think anything was amiss. Indeed, the makers slap the word 'Epiphone' on many of their other products and charge 400 quid for some of them, and buyers don't think twice about it.

I really like the look of these, but there are long lead times for the model at Thomann's at the mo.
-
Over the last week the Basschat Massive have cleared Thomann's shelves of the black MB4 and they don't have any left. I got mine though Stunning instrument at a miserly price.

My book about being a bassist is published..!
Bassfinger replied to Alfie Noakes's topic in General Discussion
I've ordered it on Amazon Prime, so it should arrive tomorrow at a house 25 miles away in a street with a similar name. I just hope Alfie remembers his hardcore fans, those that were in from the start, when he's quaffing caviar in the sauna with Richard Branson, -

Sod it, order the paperback. -
What's The Fretboard? Did a slim piece of wood knock on the door and speak with you, or is it the name of a secret Rand Corporation owned front company?

Im simply not risking it. As much as I would like to play with the boys again I'm not endagering my health to do so. I can't see how rehearsals would be considered "work" unless you're being paid to rehearse.

Harley Benton MB-4 Satin Black (REVIEW and SOUND TEST)

In terms of kit its a golden age for bassists and guitarists. Highly playable instruments and capable amps, kit, interfaces, effects, etc, at prices would have got you an egg slicer 3 decades ago.- 99 replies

Harley Benton MB-4 Satin Black (REVIEW and SOUND TEST)
Bassfinger replied to dave84's topic in Bass Guitars
Been reading around today, and it seems these are made in China and South Korea by the same firm that makes Epiphone guitars for Gibson, which likely explains how they punch so far above their weight for the money.- 99 replies

Im perhaps not the best person to ask because ive bpvery big hands (take note ladies!) but the neck doesnt feel at all unwieldy to me. Perhaps a touch slimmer than my Precision, but not much in it.

Ahoyhoy! Completely blemish free, low action, sounds great. Not weighed it because I'm not bothered but significantly lighter than my ash bodied precision. But most importantly, it feels absolutely fantastic! Going to ditch the strings for flats, but other than that I'm utterly blown away - it makes rival basses closer to 500 quid in price look like a sick joke. I don't know how Thomann do it, but I'm bloody glad they do!

A Hardly Bent one at a third the price wouldn't be likely to have such faults. Squier are taking the pith.

Looking forward to the report on the pickup.

My only tip is p to take your time and check ebay daily. Eventually the item you want at a good price will appear, provided you're persistent and paitient. My PB neck is a blinder, wonderfully finished, well fretted, lovely flattish '51 feel to it, but cost only £35 plus postage from Ireland. Took about 5 weeks of daily searches to find it.

Probably in much the same conditons as other chinese, korean or taiwanese basses in the £300 to £400 price range, and you can bet that none of the extra take finds its way back to the factory workers.
