  1. I've bought basses online. Sometimes I will have tried them via friends etc, but I'm not low enough to try one in a shop and buy online. If I've gone as far as trying one in a shop and decide to buy it then I'd buy it from that shop. Sometimes I don't try them. Whatever happens I'm going to buy certain - to me - iconic basses, Hofner Violin, Epiphone EB3, Steinberger, etc, whether I've played them beforehand or not. Sometimes I build them from parts sourced online. I built my Jazz that way, and I'm currently building a Precision with gold hardware that way.
  2. Wash my hands before playing, clean the strings and instrument after playing.
  3. Just bought a bass from them for my Daughter's 9th birthday. 3 days to arrive from Germany, so excellent service really. Well all the emails were in German updating me as it went, so I presume that's where it came from. It arrived very well wrapped, and is a lovely looking instrument for very reasonable money.
  4. I've a cheap but surprisingly nice Bryce acoustic. Not so good live unless amp'd, but great fun for quiet, casual practice or bringing a different tone to recording. I enjoy it enough not to be too worried about its shortcomings.
  5. I once had scratchy pots. The Doc gave me some cream for it and they cleared up fairly quickly.
  6. They get away with charging the same because they believe Precision players are that bit more gullible 😗 PS, before anyone takes out a fatwa on me, I'm only joking - I've one of each myself.
  7. I've been contemplating an Ignition, but I have to say I prefer the tone and finish of the very similar Epiphone Viola bass. It's certainly worth considering if the Ignition is on your shopping list.
  8. Jethro Tull - Aqualung ---> Thick as a Brick. Rush - 2112 --> All the World's a Stage. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin --> Led Zeppelin II.
  9. Yes, theyll even check the labels on expensive looking clothing, so cut them out. The HMRC boys will make their decision and once they've made it it's down to you to either prove otherwise or stump up the duty. However, they know they're open to challenge and will always base such a decision upon evidence. Deprive them of that evidence and the presumption under UK law is in your favour. Cut out labels, peel off stickers, send paperwork or invoices home separately in the mail. I've never been quizzed about my watch (a Tudor) but a fair point mentioned above. Next time I go abroad I'll keep a photo of the UK purchase invoice on my tablet just in case they think I'm trying to pull a fast one, although one would hope in the grand scheme it's not such an expensive trinket compared to some.
  10. I work abroad a lot and bring stuff back. No officer, I took it out with me. They can never prove otherwise. Remove any labels that might give the game away, post any invoices or documents back home to yourself separately so you've nothing incriminating on your person. Never brought in anything as big as a guitar but done good few cameras, a laptop, even parts for our Smart car. That's not to say you won't get rumbled, but I've always kept it plausible and made sure I've no evidence on my to prove otherwise and never had more that the most cursory of questioning.
  11. It would have thought an aircraft would be far better suited to flying.
  12. Johnny Depp is another multi instrumentalist. Hes a pretty decent slide guitar player as well. His favourite song is Slap my beach Up 😗
  13. That's a brilliant song, creases me up every time I hear it. How she kept a straight face while singing is anyone's guess.
  14. I'd argue that in many ways Communique was even better. Some really dark blues sounds on that one. Where d'ya think you're going and News are just superb tracks, perhaps the pinnacle of the original Dire Straits sound before they allowed keyboards into the band from Making Movies onwards.
  15. Ian Anderson. Following John Glascock falling ill (and sadly dying a little while later) with heart problems, Anderson took over bass duties for the recording of the Stormwatch album. Mind you, there's not much with either strings or a blow hole that he can't play. And he didn't just go through the motions - some of the bass work is hard driving verging on funky.
  16. I'd pay 18 dollars a month to slap her bass occasionally. Fnaar.
  17. I meant to add, if other people like it that's fine by me. Not everyone likes everything and theres no law of man or nature that says they should.
