A bistro with live music? In Norfolk? Where's that Pat? Sounds like a place to check out. (As a customer) Glad it went okay for you. As you say, a new venue will need to build a reputation.

Ariel Square four? You were spoilt rotten. 1968? Ford Thames van? Two seats? We were a trio! I had to sit on the engine cover in the middle!! Arse already on fire when we arrived at every gig!!!!!

I do love a sitting gig at my age. Lovely little jazz club in SW France near where we used to live. Went down great. Percussionist couldn't make tonights gig but still worked well. Well paid, but I would have done tonights and last nights shows for nothing as the sax/keys player is gravely ill and it was simply an honour to have been asked to provide the low end on what may well be one of his last gigs.

Just seen this ad on FB. It's advertising the world's most spectacular Taylor Swift tribute show or rather, the auditions for a "Taylor" which appears to be the bit they're actually missing in the lineup. Sort of reminds me of those "Do you want to join my Queen tribute act? Looking for a Freddie, a Brian, a Roger and a John"🤣

In France we did a huge week long festival in Bourges three years running. About 150 bands over the week in approx 50 venues. The venue we played wanted six, 20 min sets with a short break in between each. The owner wanted, punter in, buy a couple of drinks, punter out, next one in. He told us, last thing he wanted was someone sitting there with an empty glass for two hours listening to the band. One corporate gig I did (trio, in a huge chateau reception area) was to play whilst guests were arriving. Played for 30 mins (6 numbers) Got 400€ each and not one person even looked at us let alone listened🤣

Anyone recently taken an instrument to France?
leschirons replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
Thanks everyone. Most appreciated. I'm taking a little EBS session combo and a cheapie bass over and it'll be with me all the time so, hopefully no probs then. I could have borrowed a bass but not in the area I'm playing so that would have complicated matters. Thanks again. -
Have a couple of unpaid gigs in France coming up. Seem to getting all sorts of conflicting info on official websites about what you can do and if taxes are chargeable and if you need documentation. Any advice based on actual recent experience appreciated.

Brian (Bassman72) bought a cable from me. Superfast payment, great, prompt comms and an allround gent to deal with. Deal with confidence.

If it doesn't sell, this will be the one I keep. Beautiful Marus Elwood 5A 5 string in "old violin" weighing in at a rather comfy 10lbs exactly. Purchased new in July 2022 by the original owner who seemingly never used it. New DR Dragon skins as of yesterday. Delano pups configured jazz neck MM bridge. Vol / bal / active 2 band EQ with 3 way mini toggle and push/pull passive option. Cond 9.9 / 10 has certificate / manual / Marus gigbag. Seems to have an endless array of tone options. Collection from Ashill ideally, but could send if buyer books the courier and accepts FULL responsibility for the pick up and delivery. Price firm on this

Fast approaching the time to retire for me so starting to clear out some instruments and stuff. Two gigs left then that's me lot. May decide to keep one bass, little combo etc but may just amuse myself at home with the EUB. Black Squier P bass, currently wearing flats. Plays beautifully. I bought this as is, with the Fender neck plate and headstock logo. Told it was a 90's Squier and no reason to disbelieve that other than it plays as good as any U.S.A Fender I've owned. It sounds immense, holds tuning, has a great action, looks cool in black but with a few age related marks. Price is firm as it plays so nice and has no issues. Ideally collection from Ashill but could send if I can find suitable packing.

Damn! Looks like I ordered the Guigsy signature P bass a bit too soon.

Not your fault Mick, just life and the real world getting in the way sometimes🤣

Due to a logistics problem despite the best efforts by the buyer and myself, these are back up for sale. Pair of fully working Laney monitors (100w?) Very loud. In fact, have gigged with these as the only P.A. Certainly loud enough to use on their own for rehearsals. The active one can be pole mounted. One powered, one passive, they're the same except the passive is a bit later and carpet covered instead of Tolex but same size. Will throw in a power lead and connecting jack lead. Pretty good cond for age and work perfectly. So, if you're looking to kit out a rehearsal space cheaply or needing a bit of old school foldback for the dodgy pub gigs, these are for you. £50 is for the pair and cables. Obviously no postage as quite weighty. so collection from Ashill or a meet up not too far. Occasionally get down to Essex if that helps.

Yes, guilty. Recent ads on here and facebook have seen me get rid of tons of problem solving guitar pedals, a couple of bass amps I bought in case of inevitable breakdowns I never had, a Jazz bass I bought because you need a Jazz bass because bands expect you to have a Jazz bass😉 All stuff I "needed" The £900 Mackie studio monitors I bought because I needed to hear totally unbiased and uncoloured recorded music are now the telly sound bar😂

Thanks for the info. I sort of meant in order to do what he apparently does in these videos. I got the impression that some folks on here feel a performance has less value if you're not in a band. I'm glad he plays live but for me, it wouldn't devalue his performance if he didn't.

I was completely unaware of this guy, (in fact, up until this thread started and I listened to the Tears in heaven cover) I hear, total mastery of an instrument and the theory to back it up. In addition, he's earning more from playing bass than 98% of the people on Basschat. Does he need to play in a band? Compose? Produce bass lines that other bassists like or want to learn? No he doesn't. He's entertaining people, that's his chosen job and he's doing it well.

Dani California? Sort of has the Sweet home Alabama thing going on and a state rather than a country but, who knows?
