Hi

Hi John, Welcom to basschat. I've been through Valkenburg and I reckon your rig is the biggest thing there.
2. Really bizarre. We played at a club that will now close for the winter. They had a guest musician for the break in between our two sets. He was a bassplayer who played along to two recorded club tracks. Both tracks were Em based and he spent 20 minutes peddling C and 5th, D and 5th and E and 5th. Weird. It can only happen in France.
3. There were obviously a few that won't be asked back for a second audition so that's really promising. Hope it works out.
4. I was watching, an early 4 string Overwater on Ebay yesterday. It's now finished. Although it was not my sort of bass, I can't believe it finished at £283.00 Someone got a bargain. Maybe it was a lucky BC'er.
5.
+1 ... ? Z x
Don't understand this thread but good to see you back Zoe.
6. sh*te, and I put my hands up. It was down to me.
7. Used to see a local band in the early 70's with two bassplayers. They were called something like Maladed Brean.
8. Feel for you there. Last week I depped as second guitar to help someone out. Just some pop and rocky blues and Hendrix covers. The guitarist told me he'd been playing for 45 years so I guessed I'd stay back in the mix, expecting some sort of Trower/Malmsteen monster to start up. He totally lost the plot on Can't get enough of your love and then proceeded to tell me it was because he wasn't using his own amp and he can usually play that solo backwards. In fact, that's what it sounded like. Well, you know not to go there again. Stick to musos who are up to your level.
9.
This is exactly what I was thinking. That said Wayne hit the nail too. Learn how to play, sure BUT also learn not playing too. learn about space and letting the music breath. That's my thoughts. I worked with a brilliant bass player once when I was playing a multi-instrumentalist role. We gave him some home demos to record and he didn't play at all on one track! He said it sounded great as it was and didn't want to clutter it. I thought that took real self discipline & I'm still impressed with him for doing that. An extreme example but hopefully food for thought.
Did he still get paid?
10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mWPW_7utMI...feature=related Anyone out there familiar with Caseopea? A bit old hat but still cool. I think bass duties are now with Tetsao Sakurai when he's not playing with Greg Howe and Dennis Chambers. This clip is Yoshihiru Naruse.
11. How about an "Drunk twat leg slicer" for pub gigs.
12. When I first joined BC, one of my first postings was about the intervention of a nickel allergy in my life. This had been confirmed, or rather, diagnosed by two French GPs. Anyway, about 5 months ago, I was prescribed a tube of ointment called Locoid 0,1%. It seems to have done the job, at least for me anyway. I put it on every night and also before a gig or rehearsal. It's not greasy and rubs right in. This is only available on prescription here and I imagine it's the same in the UK. Do not try to source this without asking your GP first and of course, it may not work for you but it did for me. Last week, I had 3 reahrsals and two long gigs over 5 days. No problems whatsoever. Just thought I'd pass this on.
13. It's fairly easy to work out. Take the length of the wire in mm, multiply by the ohmage, divide by the usual hourly labour charge and then add two thirds of your house number, then add, the number of slices your toaster takes. Answer? probably about £15.00 at a repair shop.
14. I bought one when they first came out (in natural) for a mate's 40th birthday present. When I got it out of the box to try it and check it over before wrapping it, I didn't want to give it to him. I also bought an OLP Axis 6 string for my brother's birthday. That was just as good and he still uses it 6 years on.
15.
Glenn Cornick - EB0 Felix Pappalardi - EB1 and EB3
Ah, the master is mentioned at last. Felix was the man. The more "accessesible" Jack Bruce, and what a voice. With Leslie West, unbeatable. Mountain were the tops. (No pun intended)
16.
We've filtered out most of the cheese these days, due to a change of singers about two and a half years ago, but "Valerie" still gets a look in now and again. But the band I was in 10 years ago, we had two female singers, and one of the tunes we used to do was (I'm really struggling even typing this...) "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. Yes, that's right, the Spice Girls. Doesn't matter how many times I say it, it doesn't get any easier... Do I win...?
Yes, but you don't get the £5.00 prize.
17.
Erm, It's Not Unusual by the Jonester...segued straight into Just Help Yourself by the same Welsh crooner. Someone once made a request, people danced and they've stayed in the set ever since. AAAAAGGGHH!! Just awful!! I'll get me coat...
Yes cheesy, but sort of cool in a camp way and the crowd love it.
18. Just thought I'd check in to see if you've found the culprits. Oh well. Maybe it wasn't a band at all and just a loud car stereo with the window open.
19. +1 They even send to France within 72 hours for £2.50 delivery. Top guys and everything is always in stock.
20. Which one get's stuck in the pod and can't get out? Paul Gilbert even looks like Nigel Tufnell.
21.
MB1. ....."We didn't Burn him!" ...."Your my wife Now!"...
I can I can't. seven and twelfty pence?
22.
Na. Not me.
Nor me.
23.
These guys seem pretty cheap/decent. http://www.t-machine.co.uk/ I've never used them before, but am planning on ordering a 1-off (bass related design) T-Shirt soon though because they are pretty decent value for money. Other places I've looked want a set-up fee for a design before you've even bought anything. From browsing around their web-site it seems like they are printing directly onto the T-Shirt; which means the quality should be great.
If you call this company, ask if it they do actually screen print as their pricing does not seem to mention any set up and screen charges which would be obligatory for direct print work.
24.
Hi Guys, I need to get some band t shirts printed, any recommendations? Cheers Stuart
Call 1st stop direct on 01277 811670 and ask for Frank or Steve. The actual screen printer (Steve) has been in bands for 30 years and knows the score. Good work at good prices and they're as mad as hatters. Can do it all over the phone and do samples for approval.
25.
I cant believe he got you as well, running in the family indeed.
Mark King is great. In fact, I have changed my name to Mark, and my wife's, and our son and daughter's names and I have even bought a dog with a hair lip.
