1.
Thanks to everyone for the advice. It has pretty much confirmed what I thought, but I still have a feeling deep down that I would love to keep it. The current situation leaves me with no choice though, so I've spoken to the Dealer and they are collecting it and refunding me. They asked if I would still be interested if they sorted it out, which obviously I might be. I suppose it really depends on what the exact problem is, so I'll wait and see.
Sounds like the shop is playing fair as you now have both options (refund or fix) so see what they come up with.
2. Play anywhere in France and no matter how small the gig is, you will get a meal and drinks. Money can be sh*te though.
3. Salut lapaju, J'habite en France aussi. (23 La Creuse) Bienvenue a Basschat.
4.
See if you can track down a Fender Roscoe Beck V. They're pretty rare these days, but one would probably tick all your boxes. I sold mine to silverfoxnik (too heavy for me at 11lbs) but I missed it so much that I'm getting another on Sunday ... but just over 9lbs this time.
+1 Great suggestion.
5.
OOOOOO I do like that The F bass take on the J.
Ain't it just. Looks even better in natural.
6. If you're new-ish to bassplaying and have started with a 5 string, stick with it and it'll soon feel like, and become, your first choice of bass. A 4 will seem a doddle after that, assuming you'll want to play a 4 string again.
7.
"Va te faire foutre, putain de merde. C'est totalement ridicule, ca."?
I hope that wasn't aimed at me, but your translation of what we said to the other band. Obviously the Mods don't do the censorship thing in French.
8. Nice list but you forgot this one.
9. To answer all the replies, Yes, I mean ALL the gear except one guitar. Yes, we told them no, or rather, f*** off, you're joking, hence, the disgruntled parents and other family members. Yes, this does actually happen but aparrently only here in France. No wonder we've been at war over the last 1,000 years. William the Conquerer's minstrel probably asked to borrow a lute and it all kicked off. Jeff-row as in Tull or as in the remarkably unfunny "ooh aarrr, ged orf moi trac-der" one?
10. Just the two of us. Bill Withers and Ya mo be there. Michael MacDonald. A very simple number but with another perfect bass line for the song is How long by Ace. Love it, so laid back.
11. Not been in long. Thursday night, great (Rock band) last night, house bass at club playing for what seemed like 20,000 self indulgent blues guitarists and a 13 year old wannabe Angus Young with pushy parents. Tonight, Rock band again but with bad atmosphere from the disgruntled parents of a young-ish band who'd turned up (with the approval of the bar owner) to play for 30 minutes whilst we we eating before our spot. Only problem was, they expected to use ALL our gear with nothing being said or arranged beforehand. Aparrently, it's what they do. They all have equipment but turn up at other people's gigs without their stuff and expect to play. Only high spot of tonight (now yesterday) was that we were so loud that a whole row of liqueurs shook off a shelf in the bar and smashed in the middle of "Lights out in London" ROCK & ROLL. Made it all worthwhile.
12. Go with the flow. It sounds an impossible task but organisation is the key as everybody has already said. Besides, when the course work starts big time, you will be needing something to relax into. All work and no play etc, etc.
13. Hundreds and hundreds, playing wise but when I'm singing, that's another issue completely. I can miss out whole verses without trying too hard.
14.
Can anyone recommend a good book for a beginner to teach themselves?
"The novice guide to caravanning" That'll get you started or were you talking about playing bass?
15. James Taylor's old band. Lee Sklar could do with a holiday. Or, Incognito at a push.
16. Lucky he's not doing it for the fun, then how would he bear the searing pain of suffering for his "music" with bleeding split fingertips whilst soloing using all the modes (after his first day back from arty-farty college) BIG TART.
17. That is so worth £8.00. I saw them both at the old Hackney library a few years back. A great evening. Unfortunately it's a bit far for me.
18.
it was only a matter of time... dunno what you class THAT as...
That is f***ing brilliant. I love the way the whole audience walk past at 1.45. Whatever happened to Bontempi keyboards anyway?
19. Great head with the 12 band graphic, much better than the 7 band and a great combination of cabs to cover the full tonal range but sounds a tad steep on the price. That's just my opinion though.
20.
Hi All, the Jazz has gone but the two others are still waiting on ebay. please bid before I have to sell a kidney...
How much is the kidney? Could be interested.
21. I play in two bands here. One party covers band with the wife and other friends and one classic heavy rock band. I enjoy both but due to the people and not the music. I would rather be in a laid back jazz funk outfit but can't find any players here that don't want to earn €300 each from day one and those gigs don't exist unless you're in Paris and a "name"
22. Joined the long line of fans to meet Marcus Miller after a show and get my T-shirt signed at the Jazz Cafe. I got to him 20 minutes later, said "great gig" He stuck out his hand to shake mine and I was a bit over enthusiastic. I shoved my hand forward, missed, and ended up bending his right thumb backwards.
23.
Sorry to go against the flow here but hold your head up and Gawd gave rock and roll to you were outstandingly brilliant rock pop songs in their day.
+1 And, Russ Ballard was a great songwriter who's also played with a who's who of early Brit pop rockers right back to Adam Faith in the 60's, Colin Blunstone and even Roger Daltrey. Argent were OK in my book and fitted in well at the time.
24. Everybody has their own own reasons for an extended range instrument. For me, it's the option to use lower octaves. I just love low Cs Ds and Bs They shake the room. There are some songs where a D on the 5th fret is not up to the job. I almost exclusively play my 5 or 6 now but will never dump the 4 string because it's the one that's always on a stand in the loungue and gets picked up at least twice a night just for running through stuff that comes into my head or I hear on the telly or whatever.
25. Really nice looking bass but the weird wavy line thing is cack
