  1. TC Polytune clip works very well. Clear, and accurate. Only downside, it doesn't swivel.
  2. Well, here's a turn up for the books. The tonal qualities have changed. I plugged this in to a practice amp to make sure I'd reconnected the electrics properly. All good however, I've just plugged into my main gigging rig, same strings, hadn't touched the amps EQ since last use (my normal settings and in the same room) and it's like the bass has come alive. It sounded great before but now, with all EQ set mid point, I now have this fabulous Marcus Miller piano like tone. Surely the finish can't make a difference.... can it? I'm loving this even more now but would welcome any thoughts on this.
  3. A can of Baufix polyurethane clear. Only because it said on the can that you only need to wait 2 mins between coats. Put six coats on and then when dry and hard, polished with a similar to, but very fine product like T.Cut. That took out any dust particles.
  4. I guess because it's not one solid piece. You can clearly see the join on the back but I don't care. I love it. They even stamped "Opaque" in the neck pocket as finishing instructions I assume.
  5. Got a Stingray5 from skidder (Steve) in an exchange. Played and sounded great. (Great guy by the way) Only problem, it was black, and had high mileage😂 A luthier quoted me 320€ to strip it back and finish if I gave him just the bare body. So, a Black & Decker heat gun, about 8 hours work and a saving of 320€ later, here's the result. I'm really pleased. Before and after.
  6. Doh, that's a Stingray, what cake?
  7. Just got in from a private garden party gig. Only played to the invited 30 people however, if you're going to do a gig like that, it may as well be in a place like this😂 Stuffed with great wine, champaign and loads of fresh salmon and rare fillet steaks. Great money, but we felt sort of like a paid-for rich kid's plaything. They loved it though so who cares?😎
  8. Never heard that before. Brilliant.
  9. Nuff said😋
  10. Never been fired from a band but have been told once that everyone was glad I'd left😂 To be honest, I admit, was a nightmare to work with, expecting them to play in tune, in time and actually learn the songs properly so, my fault entirely. Have left four bands, two to play with better musicians, one to play with simply, musicians😂 and one because I moved to France. All is rosy in the camp now. Play with a three other people I love dearly, who sing and play to a great standard. Not my ideal choice of music but also occasionally play with a sax player where I get to play exactly what I love. Earn great money with both and no egos involved at all.
  11. So none of you knew?😂
  12. I guess Jimmy quit and Jody got married did they😂
  13. 10 years ago, you couldn't have given me an MM bass. I was playing Fender, Status and F.bass at the time. About 5 years ago, I bought a cheapy 5 string from BCer Josh to use at dodgy venues and leave at the rehearsal studio. It very quickly became my main bass. Just so perfect in every respect. It was an OLP Stingray. I figured out eventually that it was the string spacing that made all the difference for me. So, I invested in the (nearly) real thing, a USA SUB5. Wrong move as it didnt have Stingray spacing however, it did have the sound. So, as I wasn't playing 4 strings any more, I've just traded my 4 string Jazz with Skidder's MM Stingray 5. I'm now a complete convert. Great tone, perfect playability and due to mine having a Glock preamp, has active passive option so only need to take one bass to gigs as I used to panic about batteries dying. Not sure about any USP but have to say, in my case, it covers all points. Build quality, tone, playability, retains a decent resale value, great to look at and allows me to cover any genre of music. Studio techs and sound guys love them too. They know exactly how to mix them.
  14. At last, someone understands😋
  15. You've misspelled anally.😂
  16. How wrong can you be? Actually, Im using a cut down Cillit bang bathroom mould bottle and, it appears to be the gateway to maxitonal, minitonal and possibly nanotonal intervals which in the latter case, may possibly lead to playing no notes at all and just looking at it.
  17. Okay, if we're pushing boundaries here, I'm in. I've just finished a slice of marmalade on toast and invented macrotonal playing. It's like the other thing, but a bit bigger. It's the future.
  18. Ah, "microtonal" what a great term. Such a fine line between extending the boundaries and parameters of modern music and playing out of tune😂
  19. I love small venues. Encourages us to reign back the volume and not hide behind a wall of noise.
  20. Well it's better than Moondance.
  21. No Blue. The deal was direct transfer of funds to our account within 7 days. We got knocked for the whole amount. When I was in the UK, we'd ask for a 50% deposit for the private function gigs but that doesn't happen here in France. Having said that, I should add that this was a British owned venue and NOT french.
  22. This place. We were invited to audition to be their resident wedding band. Which we did. Just by coincidence, on the last night of their week of trying to impress 60 visiting UK wedding planners. First function, went down a storm with the happy couple and guests who even left an additional three figure tip to be passed on to us at payment time. We went back after two weeks as we'd not received the payment transfer and lo and behold, gone into liquidation. In business again after 2 months, different name for the controlling consortium but strangely, all the same people. Hmmm. They had the nerve to email us two weeks ago to ask if we still offered a wedding function band service as they'd heard some positive feedback about us.😂
  23. Blimey, seems to be all competitions with us. Tonights gig was at the international gliding championships. Seriously "up for it" audience but well boozed up as I imagine they'd all spent the week stone cold sober for the competition so it was let your hair down time. We played well and got booked for next year.
  24. I should have known better shouldn't I? 😂
