My wife suggested singing that at an open mic night so I quickly worked out the chords and we went for it. I'd forgotten what a great song it was. Shout, is the opening number in our band. It's a real attention grabber and goes down well.

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

Thanks very much for the reply and explanation.

Just a quick question, probably a silly one, but hopefully someone here will know. If two songs get played on the radio, one, as a one off say, by an unknown artist, and the other by someone really famous like Elton John for example, is there any difference in the royalties paid to each artist for that one play of their respective songs?

First time I've Googled my own name. I appear to be a bloke who's renovated and re-opened a cafe in a run down part of Bradford. I did get a couple of pics of me though in the images bit that comes up.

I would never criticise her standing as a musician or, devalue her worth as a woman but in this case, I reckon there's a fair chance that he's handed it to her to give it a bit of a dust.

Guitar Players Who Don't Get Their Due Respect

I think the late Alan Murphy should be in here. Did some fabulous solo work (SFX) and also added the cherries on the cakes with the Go-West recordings. Got me going now, Alan Hinds is another to go on the list. -

At $249 for a new tenor, probably best hang on to it and maybe give it another go at learning.

Bands you didn`t like when they were going, but do like now?
leschirons replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
Supertramp. Hated them at time. Thought it was all too twee and middle class. Over the last ten years or so, the (songs rather than the band) have really grown on me, culminating in us seeing Roger Hodgeson back in August. Stole the show from Toto to be honest. -
It's not meant as a dig at Blue, but a genuine question. It seems to me that the bands that I'm always told are my influences are from the sixties or seventies, as if music began then. But what about all the rock'n'roll before that, and the Jazz and blues before that? My personal musical radar only goes back to around the 1920's delta blues, really got into Robert Johnson for a while, but wasn't the early blues music that the African slaves brought with them into America? How come folks seem to only consider 60's/70's music worthy of being an influence to everyone today?
I totally get why you've said that. However, (I'm 65 btw) there was just as much crap around in the 60s and 70s as there is today. Conversely, there have been some really great artists over the last 10-15 years. I think the reason you hear this a lot, usually from us oldies, is that the sixties especially was a time of great change in music, quite a revolution in fact so, when you heard something new and good, it was usually vastly different from what had come before. That's much harder to do nowdays but there is still some great stuff getting produced.
I disagree. IMO Jaco has made a contribution to anyone playing bass today, whether they know it or not. Blue
With all resect Blue, I can't see how you arrive at that conclusion. I understand that he was a good player and has obviously influenced many players after him but as I've never enjoyed his work, and leaving aside the lack of ability issue, I can honestly say that the only contribution he's made to my bass playing is that I know for sure what music I don't want to play and what I don't want to sound like....but wait a minute....that means he HAS made a contribution to my bass playing despite me not even liking him. Well, I didn't see that coming. You Yanks are damn clever😋
However, I will never get or understand how some younger players don't understand his inpact or overall contribution and inspration to thousands of musicians. Blue
The truth is Blue, is that it's totally unimportant to them. Not knowing about Jaco Pastorious will have no physical effect on anyone's lives and will probably make no difference whatsoever to the playing ability of 99% of the world's future bassplayers. I'm not trying to be sarcastic here. It's just a fact that to some kid who wants to play Foo fighters covers with their mates, Jaco Pastorious made no contribution to bass playing whatsoever as far as they're concerned.

Love the musicianship but lyrics and wacky vox spoil it for me.
A very generous offer. I'll be down in the Pont De Gard area.
Ah, only about 6 hours drive then😂

Where are you going in France? If it's near me, I'll lend you a little combo.

I was looking for one of these recently. Great in the vintage cream and the added bonus of the classic body shape. They're about $1,000 in the States so I guess that's about £700 here. It's the Ray35

Just sold a Status Energy 6 to Nick. What a nice friendly guy. Great communication, paid promptly and a nice cup of coffee and a chat to boot when we finally met. Highly recommended.

Pub band - small PA options?
leschirons replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in General Discussion
We have a very simple setup: a Yamaha EMX512SC powered mixer and a pair of Electrovoice SX 300's which are 12" passive speakers. We normally only put vocals through it and occasionally harmonica. I have put my bass through it via a Sansamp VT bass on a couple of occasions due to amp issues, and it coped perfectly well for that. We don't usually use monitors, but occasionally end up with one or other speaker behind the microphones and provided you tweek the speaker angles don't get any feedback issues. The speakers I bought second hand from a Basschat ad about 18 months ago, the mixer came with a pair of Peavey Hisys 15's and stands and leads for £300 via ebay. The Peaveys proved to be a bit to big for smaller venues hence I bought the EVs but we were in a similar situation to you when we bought them and needed something quickly. That was 3 years ago and the PA is still going strong, (we gig around 25 times a year) and we use the Peaveys if we play outside and want to mike up the kick drum. As it happens, I bought another Yamaha EMX 512sc desk as a spare which is in much better nick than the scuffed one we gig and have never used it.....if it's of any interest pm me!
Another big fan of the Yam EMX powered mixers here. Ultra reliable and tremendous value for money. -
Just bought a bass from Martyn. What a lovely guy. Been such a help in getting the bass about 250 miles nearer to me, and on a family weekend away. Very fair price, great comms and ultra helpful. Buy / sell with utmost confidence. Top man.
