We probably all have one or two. An album where you know every word, bass note, guitar / keyboard part and drum beat so intimately that you can play the whole album in your head, in the correct track order. Mine it seems are Hemispheres by Rush and Deja Vu by CSN&Y Be interested to hear what others' are.

Looking to buy a Squire Standard Strat or Telecaster. How Much.?
leschirons replied to bubinga5's topic in Guitars
If I were you, I'd pop into a shop (or a mate that as both) and play a Tele and a Strat as they are very different guitars that players tend to go for either one, or the other. Strat players aren't usually Tele players and vice versa (Obviously there are exceptions to the rule) Be a shame to find a nice whatever, only to find you maybe suited, or preferred, the other guitar. -
Just play a 6, best of both worlds. There's a symmetry to a 6 string, the centre 4 strings being a normal 4 string bass. If you're used to playing a 5 in normal low B tuning then that's there, with the bonus of a high C.
This. Got all you ever need in one bass.
Harley benton pb50 £85 ish , special ebay seller price £100 + ONLY £12 postage Harley benton B450-LH £119 special ebay price £140 +£12 post Harley benton st-62 £96 ebay £100 +£12 post what a louse !
I get what you're saying but looking at the prices he's selling at (£15 profit + P&P, less actual postage costs and seller fees for eBay and PayPal, I can't see why he's doing it. Or am I missing something here?
We are mortal, people are dying all the time although our culture tries to hide the fact. We're all going to die. People age, they suffer pain and disease, they die. It is the nature of life. So I get a tired with OMG, 2016, somebody we know of has died, OMG 2017, people are still dying! Is it just me that finds this obsession with celebrity death unhealthy? Peter
The reason people (myself included) post these things is usually, (whether a fan or not) that some of these people formed part of the soundtrack to their lives. I personally couldn't stand "Where do you go to my lovely" however, it was continuously on the radio and T.V in a certain period of my life and therefore, became part of the backdrop to it and yes, it does make us realise that we aren't immortal as we subconsciously think that those famous names we grew up with will always be there. It also gives some people the chance to reminisce a little if they want to. It's not really an unhealthy obsession with celebrity death, just another way of marking the passage through our own lives. -
I seem to remember a couple of The Quo had a little function / covers band for quite a few years. I wouldn't have thought they were doing it to earn another £100 a week because they needed it. Probably, simply the buzz of playing small venues.
The world moves on, why aren't we all at the ballroom on a sunday afternoon anymore? There will always be a few people that keep genres alive along with suitable venues in some cases but will there be bands full of fifty year old blokes playing Hey Joe forever in every town? Maybe, maybe not.
It's all down to why you want to play. If it's just for financial reasons. Yes, it's going to be tough at 63. (I'm 65 next week) If it's the pleasure and experience of playing with other musicians, they're out there and, if you don't mind doing a few charity or freebee social gigs, you'll probably get another 15 years out of it.
If I don't feel you physiclly or intelectually will fit I'm not letting you in my band. End of. Am I a bigot or do I just know what I want (or don't want) for the band ?
+1
Probably the most worrying question is Why are there so few young bands playing pubs?
Maybe younger bands don't see pub gigs as the way forward, but a dead end street. If they want to achieve fame and fortune, it'll only be with a label, producer or lucky enough to have a video noticed on YouTube
We once refused to audition a guitarist, much to our then drummers chagrin because he was too tall. He was a lovely guy and came to see us at a gig, which is something that would give you a plus mark right from the start in my book but he was amazingly tall He was big enough to turn heads at the gig and our singer said to me that he couldn't see him in our band. This was before the poor bloke got to play a note and I had to agree. I too think it would have looked odd. I can still see the unfairness in this but I let it happen. Les
In fairness though, wasn't your band called The Hobbits back then?

Something I've noticed whenever I go back to the UK is that quite a few pubs have been converted to habitation. If you own a struggling big old pub in the middle of town, the possibility of 5 trendy appartments that'll sell for £400,000 each is a no brainier decision.

I'm old. I'm overweight (slightly) I'm bald. Why on Earth would I expect to be taken on by a band of 20 year olds who all look like Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissor-hands just because I can play well? The same reason my tight leather black jeans have remained in the wardrobe for 17 years. I don't fit the bill (or the jeans) It's not ageist, sexist, racist or any other ist. We're just not what they're looking for.

Oh dear, Ms Carey will no doubt be blaming someone else and vastly shortening their career prospects after her lip-syncing gig went pear shaped last night. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/38483893/mariah-carey-stormed-out-of-2016-with-a-technical-meltdown Mods, please feel free to move this to "Off topic" if you feel it doesn't fall within the realms of "music"
The Beatles were never teen idols. Not like a David Cassidy or Lief (I Was Made For Dancing) Garett. Not in the States. Not by my definition of Teen Idol. Blue
So how old were all those girls collapsing in hysterics at the airport?

If Justin Bieber were the world's most successful and richest window cleaner, no-one would say anything. It's just that the critics seem to have a different opinion of what constitutes talent. Especially when it comes under the heading of music. I certainly wouldn't criticize his talent for earning millions of dollars. It's only musos that slag him off and if he hadn't had put a certain amount of work in, he wouldn't be where he is. Just because he hasn't played 2,000 badly paid bar and pub gigs over 30 years and carried his bass rig 200 yards in the rain doesn't mean he's not good at what he does. He's not for me but good luck to anyone that makes a success of their life.
