1. You can edit the patches and then save them to the "user" section. Setting your amp flat will then give you least colour but if you like your amp's usual settings, edit the patches to suit.
2. Normally, they'll say what the gig is paying (only ever depped for bands where the split was equal) up to me then whether I take it or not. Odd occasion where it's been more as you're really getting someone outta the crap but it's never been me who's asked for more as most of the bands have at least been people I knew, if not pals.
3. Hohner cricket bat Steinberger copy and the dreaded 8 ton Peavey combo 300😂
4. Thanks for your replies.
5. Most of the time I play a Status Energy 6 string but over the last few months, I've noticed I'm having trouble with the string spacing (19mm) I have a few finger joint and wrist problems and it's starting to get harder playing it. Been looking at the Yamaha JM basses and the Yamaha website states that the JM has a 35" scale and the JM2 has 34" which would suit better. I've never had the opportunity to try one and there's nothing on the Yamaha site that gives the string spacing. Anyone got a JM2 and able to confirm the spacing? Thanks in advance. Your opinions on the bass generally would also be helpful.
6. Usual story. Mate calls, wanna form a band? I turn up with Strat and combo... Er no, we need a bassplayer😂
7. Strangely enough, the song I found the hardest was one I could have played the easiest just for the sake of a bar gig, however, I wanted to try and nail the actual bass playing on the recording. Son of a preacher man (Dusty's version) She recorded this in Memphis and I believe the bassist was Tommy Cogbill. The recording doesn't offer a good enough mix for me to really pinpoint what he's doing and normally, I would've said that he'd played about 5,000 notes too many but it seriously works on the recording. Not even sure if I've nailed it 6 years down the line😂
8.
What was that stuff popping up during The 1975 slagging them off, ironic or disgruntled employee?
I assumed it was part of their performance or some ploy as the singer had been getting vocal earlier about speaking up about stuff. Update. The messages were out-takes from the actual video of that song.
9. I've just watched a performance on the Brits where the song is seemingly entitled Shutdown. Now, I'm in no way criticising the artist or performance. I fully understand that this guy's target audience does not include me but I could only get the one word (or maybe it's two) Shutdown. It's all over for me isn't it. Especially as it crossed my mind that maybe he's singing about his local B&Q or Phones4U. I feel like a dinosaur and it's getting near extinction time.😶
10. Just had a mail from "See tickets" advertising Dylan at various venues. Not a huge fan but I see him as one those names you sort of ought to maybe see before either of us dies. He's at the Palladium which I believe, was bought by Really useful in order to bring quality theatre and music to the masses at sensible and non-inflated prices. Palladium website doesn't even list the gigs in its events calendar but you can buy tickets via "See tickets" at a minimum cost (enticingly entitled the "Silver experience") for a mere £225. "Gold experience" is £250 and "Front row experience" is £275. This provides you with a seat, and some "Dylan collectable merchandise" and a full itinary which I guess, is a piece of paper with the gig start time and if the bar is open in the intermission. Anyway, I'm not going as I've figured out it'll be cheaper to fly to the States and visit him in hospital when he is dying. Assuming he goes first.
11. Acoustic jazzy duo with quite a few Piaf classics thrown in...... Can you do Smoke on the water or Black night???
12. I'd walk away from this situation at least until the existing bassist has had the courtesy of being spoken to by the band (certainly not you) As for learning the stuff in the background, if you really want the gig, why not? However, are you sure that ALL the band will be in agreement about who replaces the current bassist?
13. What's the name of the band? For all we know, you're called the Puppy killers.
14.
We're kicking that one around as a potential track. Fits our 'take an 80s tune and whack big guitars on it' theme.
Then give Video killed the radio star a listen by The Presidents of the United States. Audience goes mad for it and, huge fun to play.
15.
Nina?
Yeah she did the original but this kicks ass a bit more. The Nena version still gets daily radio play over here so should go down well.
16. It's that time when we all get together to choose another 12 new numbers for the band. Been looking for something to buck things up a bit and came across this little gem. I think it'll be a winner as the original was huge in Europe and I think it'll be great fun to play. 99 red balloons by Goldfinger. Anybody else do it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-qfzH0vnOs
17. Yes, we'd all be millionaires with the benefit of hindsight because at the time that we sold all these great basses/guitars/cars/watches/houses etc, we all assumed we could always replace it for the same price. By way of example, if I add the four selling prices of my 76 Gold top, 76 Explorer Ltd edition, my 1966 E-type and my Rolex GMT, they total £1,900 About half the price of a Wal today. And so we move on in life. Hopefully, without regrets.
18. I think one of the early Genesis members packed it in and bought a lemon grove in Spain and wrote a book about it. Nick Simper, first bassist with Deep Purple became a male nurse I think. But, Brian Cox is certainly making a shed load more money talking about stars than trying to be one in the music industry.
19. Does this mean you're possibly losing your drummer Blue? Otherwise a hypothetical ad seems a strange exercise. For the record though, stipulate own transport (assuming you travel separately) willingness to rehearse when required maybe.
20. I thought we were all invisible anyway so does it matter?😂
21.
No, not for me, but so many Bacharach & David songs where I can pick out all the string, horn and backing vocal arrangements. Odd one I know!
Not odd at all. They were two of the greatest writers of the day. I'm with you here.
22. Oh c'mon now! Really? Every album from the 70s? Okay, I get it. It's now like that voting for Wagner or Ed Balls thing isn't it? 😂 Ha ha, I posted too late😂
23. Hmm, four albums from the 70s between us so far. Wonder if that's relevant.
24. We probably all have one or two. An album where you know every word, bass note, guitar / keyboard part and drum beat so intimately that you can play the whole album in your head, in the correct track order. Mine it seems are Hemispheres by Rush and Deja Vu by CSN&Y Be interested to hear what others' are.
25. If I were you, I'd pop into a shop (or a mate that as both) and play a Tele and a Strat as they are very different guitars that players tend to go for either one, or the other. Strat players aren't usually Tele players and vice versa (Obviously there are exceptions to the rule) Be a shame to find a nice whatever, only to find you maybe suited, or preferred, the other guitar.
