  1. All academic now. I just got this e-mail. He's already ordered stuff, installed software and seemingly configured it for our band.   4. Seems the big advantages are control over monitoring and better EQ possibilities. In the end, it's his decision whether he buys or not and I suppose we'll have a try out with our four piece. Thing is, the older I get, the less complicated I want everything to be. The French musicians I've played with since coming here seem to all be of that "let's get there 6 hours early to set stuff up" mindset whereas my old UK gig life was more 15 mins before the gig, plug in and play and sort volumes and balance before the end of the first verse
  5. Well, our guitarist who owns all the P.A. equipment is certainly a tech head so he'll be able to use it. He also hires out his system for fairly large gigs and engineers them too. I can't help thinking though that this is getting stuff for the sake of it. If you saw his floor pedal set up, you'd know what I mean and tbh I get a little fed up with it all. He has 23 pedals (as that's all there's room for on the board) and when he's got no sound coming through, I have to bite my lip while he checks all connections before realising the standby is on. From what you're all saying, it just sounds like grief for smallish gigs.

The Bottom 40 cover is an example of great musicianship, unfortunately, it's also a great example of "less is more" They've completely lost the point of the song in that the original really does want to make you dance and be happy. But, thanks for posting. Nice to hear some good players at any time.
  7. Our guitarist, who owns all the P.A gear fancies going WIFI on stage so we can control monitors . mix etc from iPads or tablets. Anyone had positive or nightmare experiences with this type of set-up? He's been looking at the Soundcraft units. Thanks
  8. I don't think the seller is a dealer as such as this is on Gumtree too. Seller is in Aberdeenshire and also has a pushchair, kitchen table, bathroom cabinet and child's slippers up for sale. Give him a chance to explain the "we" before sentence is passed. The "we" could mean him and his Mrs. Just my opinion

  11. Great band. No idea who was on bass but it was the late great Alan Murphy on guitar I believe. Saw them some years ago on one of those weird 80's revival gigs supporting Tony Hadley (not as his backing band) They were brilliant.

Funnily enough, I've been using Washburns myself (6 string) An old 80's Festival and one of the little known Millennium 2000 models but really need to retire them both and was really looking something a little louder unplugged than the Washburns which both have slim bodies. From what you say, maybe the neck isn't as chunky as people make out and that was really my only concern. I'm back in the UK at the end of March so may well try and source one to try then. Everything is always a guitarist's fault. Late solos, out of tune instruments, sloppy performances, taking the wrong gig, vehicle breakdowns and even all the problems in the Middle East. I play guitar in another band sometimes and I've been blamed for everything because it's never their fault. Trust me, I know.
  18. This is just out of curiosity due to the subject coming up at a rehearsal. You're on stage, for whatever reason, the guitarist starts an 8 bar solo, a bar late. Do you, Go back into the song after he's widdled for 8 bars or go back into the song after 8 bars from when he should have started? I've had this situation occur a few times over the years and the outcome has usually depended on whether the solo is a well known "set in stone" affair or not, and the on-stage communication abilities of the band and luckily, never ended in a car crash (so far )
  19. I leave Basschat signed in on every device in the house so it probably looks like I have nothing else to do. I tend to look at the stuff for sale most days and if I really have nothing to do, look for any threads that stand out enough to take my interest. There are times where I don't look for days and I guess when those periods get longer and longer until you don't bother at all, you've sort of left.

  21. I did a few of gigs like this last year. We have a sort of unofficial rule whereas the "mates" of the client who want to offer mates rates usually play for less so the other non-mate members get their usual cut. Works for us.
