Lou Reed, way back in the mid 70's. Was really looking forward to the gig. (Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on guitars) and I was raving over the Rock & Roll animal album at the time. Came on stoned, 90 minutes late to booing and slow hand claps from the audience and then proceeded to tell us all to f*** off if we didn't like it. Big mistake. After 5 minutes of flat mumbling / singing and the worst out of tune guitar playing I've ever heard, we did. About 60% of the audience walked. Andy Summers comes a close second. Jazz trio, at Pizza Express. Talked for more time than they played, mainly about how he was influenced by Thelonius Monk at the age of 12 (really?) A complete twat who felt it was necessary to explain why he played this chord or that chord. On the upside, the four cheeses pizza was very nice.
Fiver for a HD live stream: http://ronniescottsj...m/E251544075_GB
Thanks for the link. Much appreciated. May well go with that. Have seen a few Face book clips from earlier in the tour and it looks great as expected. Just hoping that our internet feed will be fast enough. May even stand outside the house in the cold for 45 minutes first and then get the wife to bump into my chair every 5 mins to make the experience "real"

I don't really eat before a gig but it's because I'm old and want a doze in a comfey chair.

Bought a Line 6 Pod and Floorboard from Andy some weeks ago now but only just got it back home to France. Couldn't have wished for a nicer guy to deal with. Great deal, condition as advertised, superb packaging and really great comms despite actually being on tour at the time of the sale. Buy from / sell to, with confidence.

Go for it. I have more guitars than basses. Nowt wrong with that.

The Foo Fighters - are they THAT good?
leschirons replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
Well, today I heard for the first time (on Planet Rock) The Foo fighters cover of Baker Street (yes, that one) I saw the Foos at Wembley a while back and I must say they were great. Really entertaining and full of energy, with great songs to boot. Their cover of Baker Street however, is utter sh*t and should be banned. Overplayed MOR pop that it is, it's a classic and well written song. If I heard a band play it like this in a pub, I'd walk. An absolute mess, played really badly. I sincerely hope they did it for a laugh rather than think they had something to offer this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO1qcWa6blQ Here it is. -
I always remember Papa was a rollin stone having a really long intro (just under 4 mins or thereabouts) Obviously not the winner, but a classic.
7.5 octave range?!

So she says! From my perspective though, she just sings everything in the recorded keys...makes for an easier life all round!
7.5 octaves puts her about 3rd in the world rankings for vocal range Guess you can cover anything from Johnny Cash to Minnie Ripperton then

What have you got GAS for at the moment? ... Guitar version.
Very Allan Holdsworth.
Didn't he use the little cricket bat type? Can't remember, he's brilliant though. Funnily enough, I've wanted one since I saw Leslie West use one years ago. -

Had GAS for one of these for ages now. -
A sound is musical if it is intended to be. Without intention, it is just a nice noise.
So if birdsong sounds musical to the human listener but is not intended to be "music" as such, by the bird (I assume that as far as the bird is concerned, it is communicating information) is it, or is it not music? If it is, it then suggests that the listener can decide.
Isn't it though?
What do I know? I can't even decide whether your reply was sarcastic or not

Much harder to put a definition to a single "stand alone" sound as opposed to a sound contained within a group of sounds so maybe it has something to do with "whether it has a relationship to"..... Having said that, I guess if someone played a single E note on a piano, we'd recognise that as musical as we're familiar with the source of that particular sound.
Paper Lace, The Scissor Sisters and Joss Stone are joining together to cover the Miley Cyrus song "Decisions". They have no idea and way of deciding who should take the first chorus however.
Joss has now been replaced by Kid Rock.

Must admit that this sort of stuff never fails to impress me. To have all that muscle control is extraordinary. There used to be a guy in Romford market (Essex) years ago who was all cased up like the Silver Surfer who was fantastic at the robot thing. He would never fail to get the hat filled with money. The crowd would stand there mesmerized as he ran, and then fell over, all in ultra slow motion. Fantastic stuff. I was unaware of this guy. Thanks for posting.

LW mentioned Ibanez. Have to agree despite not being a fan of their basses. Have had some quite serious Ibanez guitars in the past and they've really maintained their quality over the years. Like most other mass manufacturers though, they try to cover all price points from exotic custom shop to starter kit which is sometimes a mistake when you attempt to produce a bass or guitar with a £120 retail price tag but Ibanez seemed to have not even compromised too much in that area and the instruments at the bottom end still do what it says on the box.

1) Sous le ciel de Paris. It's an old Piaf number but there's a modern Latin feel version by Zaz that absolutely makes me grin each time I play this on acoustic guitar. 2) Ya mo be there (on bass) I guess it's just the groove on this one.

Wine Rack for the discerning Bass Player
Storing wine upright, pfft nothing upmarket about that!
The wine bottles are purely for display purposes (can't seem to do smilies on this iPad but it's the thought that counts) -
Interesting question leschirons - especially when we already have the:

Schecter Baron-H
Schecter Stiletto
Schecter Johnny Christ
Couldn't really be any worse than those. And if people wanted to return their purchases they could be asked to return to Schmender! Yep - time for a lie down.
Yes, but if the manufacturer were actually called Schmecter"
