1. This is just out of curiosity due to the subject coming up at a rehearsal. You're on stage, for whatever reason, the guitarist starts an 8 bar solo, a bar late. Do you, Go back into the song after he's widdled for 8 bars or go back into the song after 8 bars from when he should have started? I've had this situation occur a few times over the years and the outcome has usually depended on whether the solo is a well known "set in stone" affair or not, and the on-stage communication abilities of the band and luckily, never ended in a car crash (so far )
2. I leave Basschat signed in on every device in the house so it probably looks like I have nothing else to do. I tend to look at the stuff for sale most days and if I really have nothing to do, look for any threads that stand out enough to take my interest. There are times where I don't look for days and I guess when those periods get longer and longer until you don't bother at all, you've sort of left.
3. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321983548267 I love an optimist Mind you, I've just noticed the case is FREE. Wow.
4. I did a few of gigs like this last year. We have a sort of unofficial rule whereas the "mates" of the client who want to offer mates rates usually play for less so the other non-mate members get their usual cut. Works for us.
5. And he still wants 25 quid postage to the Channel Islands?? That's just being unreasonable.
6. The really funny thing about this is that the seller states that Justin Hawkins has apparently been added to the top 100 all time great guitarists
7.
Are you Swiss Tony?
Well, playing the bass is like making love to a beautiful woman etc etc...
8. Just heard. More terrible news. RIP
9.
Absolutely.... what's £24,000 between friends..? And the fact that a Genuine 1960 stack-knob Jazz would cost, in a retail environment, £18,000 at the very most? I think it would be a shrewd investment on your part.
Definitely. And all I'd have to do then, would be change the scratch plate, route out the body, buy some jazz pickups, get a 61 Jazz bass logo on it (Ebay 5 quid) et voila.
10.
Wow, these early Jazz basses certainly do look a lot like Precisions. Very interesting.
Yes they do but it's okay, the vendors comments state "very good" for the entire narrative and also that delivery is free so I may just go for it

12. Great looking, and no doubt, great sounding bass but to me, the real attraction of this is that magical 7lbs weight. Someone my age is going to buy this
13. £5 ?? Really? You may want to edit the price. If it's correct however, I'll have it.
14. Ha ha, the OP's story reminds me of the Alan Partridge episode where the nutty fan has got the Alan "cut-out" figure in his "interview" room.
15. A mate has one (I think it's a 50 watt combo) All tube, sounds brilliant and horrendously loud. Has a really nice clean sound but also does the tube melt overdrive thing quite well. Really nice for Blues-rock Gary Moore-ish type stuff.
16. Have a real hankering for one of these but can't pin one down in France to actually try one out. I keep hearing comments about the thickness of the neck so would appreciate any input if anyone has one or has played one. Thanks
17. Didn't even know he'd been ill. A sad loss for music.
18. Love the way it has to sit on the stand.
19. 30 - 40 gigs a year. I have 5 basses. 4 string Fender jazz, 5 string MM SUB, 6 string Status, a 5 string OLP and a fretless. Mainly use the 5 and 6 stringers as I like having the B string. The OLP comes out when doing outdoor evening gigs near water or it's a dive full of p***heads.
20. The most recognisable to me, means that the listener doesn't even need to know the correct title, band, whether it's actually a bass or anything other than that they're aware that they've heard the song a million times before. My girl or Stand by me probably have the longevity to achieve this seeing as they're still played a lot.
21. I regularly play with three drummers at present and they're all good but we don't seem to have that telepathic relationship where everything is just perfect. I've only found that once and unfortunately, he was the most uncommitted band member I've ever come across. Fabulous to play with (three different bands) but he'd always bail out after a couple of gigs. Not even sure if he plays at all these days. Very frustrating.
22. Mine are called the 4 string, the 5 string and the 6 string
23.
Mind you, the French are in general a VERY appreciative audience for live music. I split my time between East Anglia and the Morbihan & LOVE the french audiences.
Very true, French audiences are great.
24.
I remember when my blues rock trio played at a social club many many moons ago. We lowered the average age of the room by about 40 years when we walked in. We were setting up, neither the guitarist nor i played a note but the drummer sat down behind his kit and hit his snare ONCE... and a voice from out in the hall said "ooh, it's a bit loud"
Luckily, all ours were deaf. Especially considering some of the new jazz chords I invented when I got distracted from my cheat sheet
25. Although not a massive hit, I've only ever heard one band attempt this. I must say they did a great job, especially vocally. Glorious, by Andreas Johnsson. https://www.youtube....h?v=pzQ82Ny1ToI
