1. Just heard. Sad news. And apart from a run in with the tax-man, seems to have kept his nose clean over his whole career too. RIP.
2.
Are we talking about Cronos from Venom?
I wouldn't want to play one of his basses in case he hadn't been wearing underpants. Puts a whole new twist on buckle rash.
3.
I'm confused. The only way this can happen is if you are playing 8 bars over the same chord. Otherwise you have to go back to the first bar as soon as he starts his solo. Unless he realises and comes in on the second bar and plays the changes with you. This is a situation where your theory comes into play. If you're playing the same chord you just have to watch him for his cue to say he's finished. He'll give the cue subconsciously even if you haven't agreed one. Or am I misunderstanding?
It's a hypothetical situation. Lets assume he's playing over the riff to Rocking in the free world then (3 chords Em D C but the trio repeat 8 times)
4.
Not so imaginary in my case, and all the more troubling as I'm the drummer..! These 'senior moments' crop up on odd occasions; I have to bear the mild approbation from the others and try to turn my inappropriate fill or ending into some sort of sense and get back to the essentials. Doesn't happen often, but too often for comfort. Blast this advancing age..!
Don't beat yourself up over this, it will only ever be the guitarist's fault. Everything is always a guitarist's fault. Late solos, out of tune instruments, sloppy performances, taking the wrong gig, vehicle breakdowns and even all the problems in the Middle East. I play guitar in another band sometimes and I've been blamed for everything because it's never their fault. Trust me, I know.
5. This is just out of curiosity due to the subject coming up at a rehearsal. You're on stage, for whatever reason, the guitarist starts an 8 bar solo, a bar late. Do you, Go back into the song after he's widdled for 8 bars or go back into the song after 8 bars from when he should have started? I've had this situation occur a few times over the years and the outcome has usually depended on whether the solo is a well known "set in stone" affair or not, and the on-stage communication abilities of the band and luckily, never ended in a car crash (so far )
6. I leave Basschat signed in on every device in the house so it probably looks like I have nothing else to do. I tend to look at the stuff for sale most days and if I really have nothing to do, look for any threads that stand out enough to take my interest. There are times where I don't look for days and I guess when those periods get longer and longer until you don't bother at all, you've sort of left.
7. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321983548267 I love an optimist Mind you, I've just noticed the case is FREE. Wow.
8. I did a few of gigs like this last year. We have a sort of unofficial rule whereas the "mates" of the client who want to offer mates rates usually play for less so the other non-mate members get their usual cut. Works for us.
9. And he still wants 25 quid postage to the Channel Islands?? That's just being unreasonable.
10. The really funny thing about this is that the seller states that Justin Hawkins has apparently been added to the top 100 all time great guitarists
11.
Are you Swiss Tony?
Well, playing the bass is like making love to a beautiful woman etc etc...
12. Just heard. More terrible news. RIP
13.
Absolutely.... what's £24,000 between friends..? And the fact that a Genuine 1960 stack-knob Jazz would cost, in a retail environment, £18,000 at the very most? I think it would be a shrewd investment on your part.
Definitely. And all I'd have to do then, would be change the scratch plate, route out the body, buy some jazz pickups, get a 61 Jazz bass logo on it (Ebay 5 quid) et voila.
14.
Wow, these early Jazz basses certainly do look a lot like Precisions. Very interesting.
Yes they do but it's okay, the vendors comments state "very good" for the entire narrative and also that delivery is free so I may just go for it

16. Great looking, and no doubt, great sounding bass but to me, the real attraction of this is that magical 7lbs weight. Someone my age is going to buy this
17. £5 ?? Really? You may want to edit the price. If it's correct however, I'll have it.
18. Ha ha, the OP's story reminds me of the Alan Partridge episode where the nutty fan has got the Alan "cut-out" figure in his "interview" room.
19. A mate has one (I think it's a 50 watt combo) All tube, sounds brilliant and horrendously loud. Has a really nice clean sound but also does the tube melt overdrive thing quite well. Really nice for Blues-rock Gary Moore-ish type stuff.
20. Have a real hankering for one of these but can't pin one down in France to actually try one out. I keep hearing comments about the thickness of the neck so would appreciate any input if anyone has one or has played one. Thanks
21. Didn't even know he'd been ill. A sad loss for music.
22. Love the way it has to sit on the stand.
23. 30 - 40 gigs a year. I have 5 basses. 4 string Fender jazz, 5 string MM SUB, 6 string Status, a 5 string OLP and a fretless. Mainly use the 5 and 6 stringers as I like having the B string. The OLP comes out when doing outdoor evening gigs near water or it's a dive full of p***heads.
24. The most recognisable to me, means that the listener doesn't even need to know the correct title, band, whether it's actually a bass or anything other than that they're aware that they've heard the song a million times before. My girl or Stand by me probably have the longevity to achieve this seeing as they're still played a lot.
25. I regularly play with three drummers at present and they're all good but we don't seem to have that telepathic relationship where everything is just perfect. I've only found that once and unfortunately, he was the most uncommitted band member I've ever come across. Fabulous to play with (three different bands) but he'd always bail out after a couple of gigs. Not even sure if he plays at all these days. Very frustrating.
