1.
If they are anything the Trace 4 x 12 that I have played through a couple of times recently the are ballbreakingly heavy as well. Our guitarist organises open mics at Lac Du Mondon (Nr St Leger Magnazeix) on the first Saturday of each month (5th September and 3rd October next two) which are getting popular and attracting some good musicians now, we usually do a short spot at that and then a jam with some of the musicians who have played earlier if you fancy that. I am at Mortemart (near Bellac) and we are having a bit of a do for friends and neighbours on 11th September in the garden (about 5pm), you are welcome to come for that also.
Thanks for the invite, very kind of you but that weekend is looking a trifle hectic. Radio recording on the Thursday, wedding gig up here Friday, birthday gig Saturday and a band gig and a dep on the Sunday with 200 kms between them Will certainly try to get to one of your open mic nights though if I'm down that way.
 2.
There obviously is that kind of 'good', but I think there's at least one other kind too. The Beatles don't do anything for me personally. If I was on a desert island with no music apart from a stack of Beatles CDs, I'd barely bother to play them. But they must be one of the most loved and most influential bands of all time, so whatever my opinion might be they were certainly 'good', to say the very least.
+1 That's what I mean. Personally I like them but it's only my opinion. It's just that some people think there's some sort of mystical other "good" that is reserved for those "in the know" ie, themselves.
 3.
Sles figures at the time dont really prove anything, Beatles recrds were guaranteed to sell, they could have recorded their farts and fans would have called it brilliant. Only a few years later McCartney proved it by releasing Mary Had a Little Lamb.
There is only one "good" it doesn't exist on multiple levels. "Good" only exists in the minds of those who think something is good. It's only an opinion, so McCartney's releasing of Mary had a little lamb proves nothing other than, (if it sold well) that lots of people thought it was good for whatever reason.
Sles figures at the time dont really prove anything, Beatles recrds were guaranteed to sell, they could have recorded their farts and fans would have called it brilliant. Only a few years later McCartney proved it by releasing Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Really? Surely by definition, sales figures at the time prove how many people bought the record at the time, which was my point, irrespective of quality, which is really only a matter of opinion.
 5. Either Chris Squire's Fish out of water or ELP's Trilogy for me.
 6.
I know it well, we have seen gigs there a few times. Not the place for lots of equipment though.
Despite being just a 4 pce inc vocalist, we have a French guitarist that's fallen in love with Marshall 4x12 cabs (yes, plural)
 7. We were in Le Dorat not far from you a few weeks ago playing in La Petite Fontaine. Small world. Have a good gig.
 8.
And if you're lucky enough to find someone who can actually keep time, it's always on the first and third beat
+1000
 9. Supertramp version starts in Cm. If your talking about the initial bass part, (before the vocals start) sounds like he's sliding up from an F to a G (say with the 3rd finger) and then playing a Bb on the string above (index finger) then a C albeit the C is an octave lower so maybe this was originally started from the F on the 8th fret of the A string and finishing on the 8th fret of the E string. Personally, I'd use a 5 string and play it lower although having listened again, there appears to be a slight slur downwards on the low C.
 10.
Always be wary of using sales figures as an argument for quality, especially as Spice Girls and Shania Twain both have albums that have sold more!
Was I using sales figures as an argument for quality? I thought it was a reference to how many people thought it was good enough to buy at the time. Unless of course you're suggesting that they all got home, played it and thought "well that was a waste of money"
 11. We have a tambourine in our acoustic duo and when not in use, it's under my left foot where it stays until we need it again. I wouldn't mind so much people using it if they could not only keep time, but actually know how to use one. They all have a tendency to give up at 1min 30secs as their arm has started to ache Funny just how many people "think" they can keep time.
 12. It's just another opinion same as anyone else's to which he's entitled. As usual, the sales figures speak for themselves as to what the majority thought at the time and whether it was considered a load of tosh but I suppose we have to respect the opinion of a successful long standing rocker who can't cope with damping a 6th E string
 13. What was the question?
 14.
Our Jen says she is a Princess and that's that. None of us disagrees with her, because as soon as she opens her mouth to sing, we are all rendered speechless.
Try putting a pea under her mattress, then you'll know for sure.
 15. If the song will support it and the player is very good and can offer something melodic, why not? I can only assume that none of the "no" voters ever go to see any of the big name players for fear of hearing a solo
 16. If I stick a CD into my PC, it automatically rips it to my library!! Can I turn that off then?
 17. Saw them at Chelmsford about 12 years ago (ish) Had Carl Wayne on vox and Mike D'abo on keyboards. Absolutely brilliant. Tony Hicks still looked about 25 (the bugger)
 18. Double Bass Players on the Endangered Species List! Have American dentists taken an interest in them then?
 19. Blimey, just heard that Cilla Black has passed away. Shame. I remember some of her hits with fondness.
 20.
I don't think that people are expecting young people to like The Beatles, it's more a matter of understanding why The Beatles were important. The two are very different things. Nobody can deny that The Beatles were hugely influential, and permanently changed the face of popular music.
Of course, you're right. My point was badly put. They were hugely important and did change things a lot. However, in order for that to happen, society has to be in a position to allow it, if that makes sense. It's not just a matter of the artistes, the time has to be right to receive and accept change. Like Punk, there were some brilliantly innovative acts at the time but things had to be ripe for change. My point being, although brilliant in my opinion, it needn't necessarily have been the Beatles that took the USA by storm if the time was right.
 21.
I contend anyone standing vertical playing an electric guitar was influenced by the Beatles whether they know it or not. Blue

Agreed, I mean look at George, who was like 17 years old. Outside of a few country guitarists he didn't have a lot to draw from, yet he started the whole concept of "lead guitar". Incredible. Blue
Most of the guitarists I came across of my sort of age were influenced by Chuck Berry and Hank Marvin. The Shadows were releasing guitar led instrumentals in 1960 and Chuck Berry was a guitar hero long before that.
 22.
And Chuck Berry had absolutely no influence then?
Of course he did. It was the likes of him and Little Richard that influenced the Beatles before they apparently influenced the rest of the world. Re the case here that younger generations seem to confuse and even irritate some posters by "not getting" the Beatles. I've always liked the Beatles but it's not for us oldies to tell people what was, or was not good music, only what we liked and about the changes we saw at that time. I don't "get" Justin Beiber but obviously millions do. There's no law stating that they have to like the Beatles
 23.
In the states being a musician was looked down on by most. In some way The Beatles made being a musician acceptable or a legitimate way to make a living. When people use to ask me what I do for a living, I always hated and felt ashamed saying; "I'm a Workers Compensation Claims Administrator". For a little over a year when asked, I'm now proud to say with confidence and arrogance "I play electric bass guitar and sing in a Rock & Roll Band" Blue
If you were in the UK and said you were a "worker's compensation claims administrator" you would actually be hated UK TV is drowning in adverts for industrial accident ambulance chasers. I think in those days in the UK, being a musician was a little more acceptable to do as a job than you experienced unless of course, you were trying to convince your own parents that it was your chosen path in life.
 24.
I read the manual like Tim R suggested! Your mixer with the switch in the Main L+R Mon mode will add the left and right signals together and output through the left speaker out. That mean that in this mode, if you plugged two instruments in to one of the stereo channels they'd both be output through the same speaker out at the same time. For your front of house sound you're only using this channel so the short answer is that, with this desk, it should be fine, I believe. My only question is that each channel can output to one speaker each - are you daisy chaining your mains and your monitors?
Each amp (side) can go down to 4 ohms so, I have two 8ohm cabs on each side as per page 27 of the manual. (Two 8ohm front of house and two 8ohm monitors) In this mode, the individual monitor levels are controlable from each channel and output through one side (one amp) in addition to a signal to the monitor out in case I need more foldback via a powered unit. On the back there are a Speakon connector and a 1/4 jack for each amp. I have the speakon out (side A) to 1 main, then daisy-chained to the other main. Same for the two monitors (side B. As the outputs are parallel, I could use both the jack and the speakon with a lead to each main (and same for the monitors) but daisy chaining will keep it neater on stage for us.
 25. Zoom B2 with headphones if the wife is in bed and I want to stay in the house. Anything up to 600watts if she's out.
