1. I love the "plays like an original vintage 1958 Precision" bit How does an original vintage 1958 Precision play then?
2.
Not our drummer, carpet or stage but you get the idea.
No music stand?
3.
No, it's not about me and I shouldn't have used the drunk guy as an example. Maybe I should be more specific. I am not talking about how we will always brush up against drunks, that goes with the territory. I am talking about live rock music as a dying art form and someone specifically getting in your face and not necessarily drunk, telling you that what your doing is history, that what you and your band are doing is no longer relevant. Blue
Well, now that you've explained in detail exactly what your beef is, I must say that I've never actually experienced that at all. Maybe in the odd conversation away from a gig but certainly never at a gig. This is not down to living in France as it also applies to the 35 years prior to moving here. Maybe it's a U.S thing
4. I'm not sure things have ever been any different. There can always be assholes at gigs wherever you play. Not that I've played there but Ronnie Scotts is a prime example. Yes, they will remove an idiot from the audience but there seems to be an ever increasing number of people who don't go for the music, but want to tell their friends that they were there last night. It's nice of course to be appreciated when you go out to play in public, I'm sure we all want that, but to be respected? you may be disappointed mate. In bars and pubs and clubs, no matter how good you are, you will be just an inconvenience to a small number that want to talk to their friends. I think there possibly was a time long ago when musicians were thought of as something special as usually, you had to be dedicated, and good in order to survive. These days, with good instruments available cheaply, a willingness of more parents to indulge their children, lessons on You Tube, the platforms to publicise your music and in some cases, simply having the right image, the musical path is open to all. I gave up the "I'm up here performing for you so you WILL pay attention" outlook long ago. I do it for me these days.
5. Alternatively, you could pick up an old Zoom 50whatever or a B3 for about £25 (takes AA bats) and just plug your lead and phones into that. Silent practice and the benefit of effects.
6.
I'd be interested to know what he's got. Has he gone for the gold plated Ritter with fossilized mammoth ivory inlays and strings hand wound by virgins out of unicorn mane & fairy pubes? Or is he more of a Squier CV kind of a chap?
A Ritter Royale I'd guess
7. Maybe see if you can borrow (or buy) a GB Shuttle 3.0 or 6.0. They have self configuring power supply. Just plug them in anywhere and it'll work.
8.
Nice find! Currently looking at Charvels myself. What are the Floyd Rose's like to use? I know a lot of people really dont like them but have no experience.
If they're set up properly, usually for 9-42 strings, they are great fun and really accurate and maintain their tuning. Old ones sometimes need a sharpen where the plate sits against the posts but that's all really. Obviously it can be a bit of a pain restringing if you break one and you need to be a little careful when changing a whole set but personally I love them. Just need to be aware of where you rest your picking hand. If you can get a guitar with an original USA Floyd, even better. None of the licenced ones like Schaller, despite being good, quite come up to the original Floyd standard. Of course, it depends on your style of playing but I tend to use the "up" facility as much as down. I had an 86 Baretta with an original Floyd and a Hamer Steve Stevens with the same. Never went out of tune. Hardly ever a tweak on the fine tuners all night.
9. Had one of these since they came out in the late 80's. That's a fantastic piece of kit for no money. Great bit of usable stage or studio kit. GLWTS
10. Shame that such a legend has gone. To be honest, I was never impressed with his playing but really loved his voice. RIP.
11. Bought a Vocaliser from Colin. Really prompt to send goods off and great comms. Nice guy to deal with. Very amenable.
12. Just picked this up on Evilbay. Got it today and spent a couple of hours changing strings cleaning the fretboard and setting up the Floyd. I love a bit of pointy head-stock. What a sound through my 40 watt all tube combo. Rings as clear as a bell on clean and really dirty on the HB with tons of harmonics. 5 way switch but my fave is the neck / middle position. Gives a real funky Nile Rodgers sound. Love it. Just need a wig and some Spandex now.
13. Why do loads of bands of 50 years + musos think that "Dodgy Prostate" or "Midlife Crisis" are clever names?
14. The fact that it's got the word "Dartford" in the name should give you a clue as to what it's likely to be like A quality venue if ever there was one.
15. I have no knowledge of Bass Direct but best bring this up with the shop first rather than risk someone possibly getting the wrong idea about them on here.
16. My first instinct was to call the lot of you a bunch of really sad bastards and would have except that my 88 Japanese pointy headstock Floyd loaded Charvel with Seymour Duncans (original pickups included) is now at the distribution centre LOL
17. Not for me, but interesting. Totally changing a song is fine but they haven't done the song any favours. They're obviously a good band but it's like doing a jazzy version of Whole lotta love. You completely lose what the song sets out to do. Thanks for posting though.
18. Well, it's just finished and been re-listed so I guess the answer was no
19. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151632704311?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
20. The only reason it hasn't sold is because "Binkybass" on here hasn't seen it As an aside, do you think it would be any good for metal?
21. Just had a nice little Zoom effects pedal from Gaf. Great to deal with as usual. Efficient, great comms and friendly. Nice guy.
22. Well the artistes wouldn't be artistes without the genuine fans and wouldn't have any worthwhile future without you so I think I'd choose that route. Actually contact them and the labels and make them aware of what's happening. You never know, a few of them may just care about the genuine people who follow them.
