1. 2 members of comedy popsters Black Lace joined 3 members of Simply red and became Maroon 5
2. Muscle thighed shouty voiced pop queen Tina Turner used to be in a novelty musical duo with a french mastiff dog. The unlikely pairing was so unusual that Warner brothers decided to make a film about it in which she starred alongside Tom Hanks.
3. I thought the early VM Jazzes had Duncan designed pickups on anyway. I've certainly seen a few advertised like that. Re the price, it's about right as it is at present. I just bought one of these in the UK for a mate over here for £151, and it's a minter. However, the upside of your one is that it's been played by a bloke I've never heard of, from a band I've never heard of and used to record the soundtrack of a film I've never heard of.
4. I've just had the brass side dots on my Status drilled out and refilled with white. Couldn't see a damn thing in low light so, to the OP, why not, if it works, it works.
5. Well, about 18,000 people on You Tube all seem to have tried Thunderstruck by AC/DC on every conceivable instrument including a string quartet, bagpipes and even banjo and spoons so why not give it a go Failing that, Xmas carols or Kashmir.
6. That bloke from the Beautiful South (lead vox) always has a waist / chest height music stand on stage at every gig. Looks awful.
7. I had a CZ5000, brilliant bit of kit, now sadly sold on. However, I still have the original owners manual so if there are any CZ5000 fans out there who want to make a little donation to BC, I'll donate the manual although you'll have to wait until the 20th Dec for me to post it when I'm over next.
8. Shouldn't this be in "Aletrnative rock factfile" if it's about where the Who live?
9.
I've had a look at our shop actual selling prices and there's definitely not been a used bass price spike from our stock. The odd thing (given that we have to charge VAT, card fees and have relatively higher overheads to cover) is that EBay list prices are regularly higher than we're selling at. I've also seen used prices in other places as well that are almost as high as some new values. This is especially true of continental Europe pricing where new values (of anything not available for bulk purchase by Thomann) are sometimes a lot higher than UK.
+1. Over here in France, it is very rare to find a used bass at a price that is attractive. Maybe it's a European thing but they tend to want all their money back from when they bought it new 8 years ago. That's not a problem when it's some sought after piece that has actually gone up in price but there are a million adverts asking €700 for a MIM fender. It would actually be a little cheaper for me to buy a new Stingray from Bass Central (inc all the duties) than buy a late secondhand one here.
10. I leave the creativity (song-wise) to other people that are far better at it than me. My only creative input is in what I personally play on an instrument. At 16 (my first public paid gig and 46 years ago) I was going to change the world through rock music. We wrote songs, we took other people's songs and changed them a lot to put our stamp on them. Soon after, we realised we were sh*t at it. Yet, we found we could play a 15 minute version of Gloria, stick a bass solo, a lead solo and a drum solo in it, and get applause. That's when the creativity stopped
11.
http://basschat.co.u...82#entry2609382 there we go i found the thread with the photos
Thanks for that. It looked great so that's the way to go.
12. If I wanted to change the pick-guard on a USA SUB 5 string to get rid of the office fire-escape look, is there a dedicated pick guard for it or would one for a Stingray 4 or classic 5 fit? Any info appreciated. Thanks
13. I'd love it. A few pics of the band with him up front is hardly going to damage the band's CV is it? And, what a great story.
14. Address the problem with the drummer = you might get it sorted. If it makes no difference, address it with the band = they might sack him. If they don't and you can't stand it, leave I've left bands in the past due to drummers banging about in between numbers at rehearsals. Life's too short.
15. Thomann are currently selling a Squier VM jazz for £234 (free delivery) One I was bidding on the other day (Ebay UK) for a French guitarist friend finished at £196 + delivery. So this is going to end up nearly the same price as brand new with no 3 year guarantee or 30 day refund option and, it had a few light dings on it I can see how the OP gets this impression although, the seller didn't set the price in this case, it was the buyers.
16.
Not to be confused with Martin Fry's Band however?
The same Martin Fry who's dad owned the chocolate factory?
17. As pointed out, an extension cab is not possible to add as nothing goes with the existing 6ohm load. I had one of these for 3 years and never struggled to get over a full heavy rock band (mic'd up drums, and two guitarists with BIG valve heads and 4 x 12s I could make the other three in the band beg for mercy. The 3x 10's in these really can kick out the low mids try boosting those.
18.
Depends on the band.... Not that we do pubs regularly anymore but we never had any issue getting a crowd and I think the most common song we had in our set list with any other band was half of long train running. It's all about your audience engagement
Very true. Years ago, we had a gig in a little Essex bar, known for the usual Mustang Sally / Alright now stuff. We were warned that the place would be empty when the club opposite opened at 10pm. We gave them, Room 335, Sylvia (Focus) Peg, Black Friday, You might need somebody and even Manhattan. No-one was more surprised than the owner when we still had them all there at 11.30pm at closing time. It's not just a matter of playing well, it's also a matter of not under-estimating the taste of the audience. Give them some credit for music appreciation.
19. South African Freakbeat and 60s soul singer Sharon Tandy opened a chain of electrical component shops after her pop career came to a halt.
20.
Hello...!?
Sorry, was that me you're looking for?
21.
I can only agree with the bolded statement. Actually( and this is the truth) this thread is just a ruse by Ped to drive traffic onto the site and thus increase advertising revenue...or maybe not. Do you think 20,000 views by Christmas is unrealistic?
Ha ha, I think 20,000 is easily achievable. Especially if you have Thursday off work and get stuck in (smileys don't work on this iPad but it's the thought that counts)
