Bloody hell, some of those mugshots are quite scarey. I've seen plenty of guitar faces but I thought WE, we're all innocent bystanders. Obviously not ha ha.

As bass players, We may gently close our eyes whilst getting carried away on a wave of euphoria as the band sounds so good. We may exhibit a subtle expression of utter boredom 11 minutes into the guitarists trademark "Red house" solo. Our eyes may widen a little at the appearance of a stunningly attractive member of the audience. But, we don't pull daft bass faces like guitarists who wah-wah with their mouths as they simulate inflating a car tyre with a Cry-baby. Or grit their teeth with eyes screwed shut as they under bend at the 20th fret somehow expecting more teeth gritting to equate to more string bending...... Or do we?

Last time I drummed, 15 mins but the guitarist cleared empty cases from the stage area for me. I have (had! must get that back) a drum mat which is marked out for exactly where all the stands go and also the spurs and floor tom so no dragging stuff nearer during or in between numbers. If I can get the mat laid down, it all works. Stands had memory locks. Our drummer in the band has usually set up before the guitarist and vocalist.

I can beat "Fancy having a laugh at my expense"
leschirons replied to morsefull's topic in General Discussion
That, my friend, is a classic "gig of the year" entry. -
This is the first year(in ten) that I've not played on the 21st June here. Could have, but just fancied a day off this year in order to listen to others and not be humping gear around. Stayed local and was treated to clog dancers with no sense of rhythm, flat and sharp singing without the bit in between and guitarists who obviously don't own a tuner. Wouldn't miss it for the world though as it all promotes a great communal atmosphere all over the country. As Dad points out, apart from Bastille day, where the French make out they freed all the prisoners, it's probably the biggest celebration of all. However, back to playing next year. It's what Britain needs, a huge national day of music, with lots of wine (but without the fights)

Well, they seem to get a lot of work judging by the gig list on their website. Funnily enough, the gig he needs a dep for is not on it Doesn't seem a hard gig either looking at the setlist. Certainly worth a punt if any members are local. Especially if you get to be first call afterwards.

Is last night's audience of one a record?
leschirons replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
Well I have to say, you lot have certainly cheered me up. Some brilliant stories there. Thanks. -
Or have any of you actually played to a zero audience? What with the World cup, a town fete for all the inhabitants and a new night club opening just up the road, we expected it be a little quiet last night, but one? In a bar / restaurant, under new management, from 10.15 to 11.45, we played to one man (albeit a very appreciative man) two waitresses and the owner. Didn't even have the obligatory dog come in Got paid in full and treated really well with regard to food and drinks and, he offered us two more bookings. So, I guess it was a paid practice with a nice meal thrown in.
But over this past few weeks, I've been questioning what I'm doing. I prayed about it. I tried to find things that said what "I" wanted them to say so I could continue playing, but nothing has gotten rid of this feeling inside.
Sorry, but this is the part I don't understand. Questioning what you're doing, I get that, but the "so I could continue playing" That's sounds very much like you enjoy it but somehow feel you shouldn't play and are looking for a reason to legitimately continue. I'm not a religeous person so I'm never going to understand your dilemma if it is related to your faith but surely, if you're a Christian, as I understand it, you worship a God of love and benevolence right? If He (in your eyes) has given you this gift, surely he would want you to embrace it and use it. Think very carefully about what you decide but best of luck with whatever the outcome.

Why do people get so upset? its only the internet
I am absolutely appalled at this, and I feel you should take this back immediately. It is utterly astonishing that, in this day and age, it is possible for someone to write a sentence like that, and without apparently feeling any need for punctuation. Will no one think of the children? Even the Nazis could write better than that.
Icantseeanythingwrongwithhiswritinginfactitlooksprettydamngoodtomesowhydontyoujustlayoffhim -
This is an acoustic version of Kiss by Molly Marriott ( Steve Marriott's daughter) This really works well.
Is it significant that he was French?
There were two of us Brits in the band at the time and we both told him that it was going to be a copy at that price, especially, as it was coming from China I don't think a Brit would have fallen for that one. So, yes.

I used La Bella Supersteps on mine. Only difference from memory was that the Fbass branded ones had a 128 B as opposed to the 130 in the La Bella pack.

A French guitarist I played with here bought a fake (or copy) SM58 thinking it was just a good deal as it included a cable, mic clip, case and mic stand. We did warn him and to be honest, visually it was impossible to tell the difference. Soundwise, it was slightly more toppy than a genuine one but sounded really good. The only issue was reliability. It lasted 18 months before dying completely so, probably just a component quality control thing rather than totally inferior.

Bypassing your amps preamp, does it defeat the object?

Hate to agree with a guitarist but he's right. Whatever works. -
Actually 'French Connection' would be quite appropriate for a boy/girl duo.
Boy? girl? ha ha, we have a collective age of 113 and will be shortly embarking on the "Smell of urine" tour.
The Invisible Man's name was Griffin...
You're right of course but I was refering to the TV series I remembered as a kid rather than the original.
Well those names are all merde and you can tell 'em I said so. Especially 'French Connection'. That one is totally lame. Sorry. Even 'Dodgy Prostate and the Roastbeef Frogs' is better than that.
You don't need to tell me that. I know they're sh*te but then again, I'm just the bass player. You know, the nobody at the back who tells the drummer to slow down, tells the guitarist what chord he's missing, and then, how to play it and also tells the singer what key she could actually sing this or that song in. I play in a duo with Bev, the girl singer from the band and even when there's only two of us, I seem to get mentioned as the bloke that plays with Bev. At least two different posters for the duo only mention the singer as the act. I'm just grateful that someone will have me I'm thinking of changing my name to Peter Brady.

Okay, time to explain a couple of things. leschirons is simply the name of our hamlet (Les Chirons) but as one word. The name, (in this case) originates from the discovery by a French astronomer, of a pair of cold dark bodies that were circling a larger star. He decided to call these dark bodies "Les Chirons" This was an old French term for "The guardians" and also a word commonly used in days of yore for "Centaurs" who were teachers, and guardians of the lands of Magnesia. Regarding the band name, it looks like I may have already been out-voted as the other three are rambling on about being down to the last three choices, none of which are mine, or yours. Looks like I may be stuck with being a member of..... "Fifty / Fifty" (two French two Brits) "Press-play" "French connection" Bastards. However, thank you all for putting some time and thought into helping with the name suggestions.

If you look at the photo of the back of the neck, you can make out the number of digits in the neck plate serial number. (Appears to start with 11. In all, 7digits in this case whereas I thought that there should only be 6 digits in a 69 serial number. I stand to be corrected of course.

Well, Thank you all most kindly. There are a few there that would work, going to throw a few of them up for the band vote. Thank you for the input. My apologies to Uncle Psychosis. We've already been Deja vu for 3 years and after we changed it, another band started using it.
Motley Creuse Although I suppose that would mean having to play 'smoking dans le chambre des boys'
Sorry Paul, that number is off limits. I think I had to play that in each Essex pub band I'd been in. It's my Mustang Sally Love the band name suggestion though.
