I think its gone completely over your heads and you've all quite missed the point. This guy is seriously cool and just camping it up. He's taking the piss out of the prissy vocalist whom he now hates since he pissed off last time without helping him get his bass rig into the car, hates being in the band anyway and totally hates the setlist that has not changed since December 2002. He's decided to use his 6er for the gig just to see if the rest of the f***ing band notice and slip in some dodgy slap just to wind up the drummer who hates Mark King with a passion as he used to go to school with him and got bullied by him from 1973 to 1975. Of course, I may have gone off on a bit of a tangent here but I think I'm on the right track.

Eva Cassidy's Somewhere over the rainbow is now the definitive version I suspect. She did a seriously cool jazzed up version of Route 66 too. Terry Wogan was the man responsible for introducing her to the masses.
Well it turns out that the Digitech Bass Squeezer is an absolute pile of poo. I thought it was maybe just me but reading the OVNI Compressor review site confirmed it. I suppose it could be useful if you wanted to make lots of hissing noises. Bugger Anyone want to buy it? It's really good.
Love the sales pitch but you really have a lot to learn if you really want to sell anything here. The studies suggest that you initially need to show the positives to draw the buyer in and any negatives are secondary so, your ad should have read like this. "Digitech bass compressor with DNE hiss enhancer. Original box and brand new cond. A great addition to any serious bassists kit. I'm only selling because it sounds sh*t" Hope this helps and feel free to copy / paste my suggestion into your advert in the "Marketplace" section.
I've never played the JM2, I have to admit I bought the 6JM based on the fact that I loved the look, knew I liked Yamaha 6ers (especially the TRB1006 mmm) and am a bit of a dream theater fan Soundswise... I can get pretty damn close to my Pbass with everything on full which is pretty much my default setting, it's quite versatile though! They can be picked up pretty cheap so keep your eyes peeled!
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I may have to keep a lookout for a bargain then.

Thanks for all your thoughts and input everyone. Charic, any idea how different the 6JM sounds with those pickups as opposed to the JM2 single MM set up?

It would be if it was £450 cheaper, like this one. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Bass-Basse-Yamaha-TRB6JP-John-Patitucci-/261368615631?pt=FR_YO_InstrumentsMusique_Guitares&hash=item3cdac892cf

Thanks all for the input. Just found out where I can get to look at one locally. Just out of curiosity you understand
That. Is. Awesome. Great to hear you're back into live music, and props to your wife, who is clearly your soulmate. Keep us posted
Or clearly wants him out of the house again Nice one though Andy, it's great when you really enjoy it.
I doubt John Myung would put his name to something and actually use that something if it wasn't very good. I think it's the fact he doesn't use them now, they're 6 strings, a funny colour and they do have a very narrow string spacing I believe. I've never played one, but I am intrigued by them.
Know what you mean. I'm intrigued too. Need to get my hands on one...just to see..
Where do you see them? I have been looking for a silver one for a couple of months now and can't find them anywhere.
Heres two of the buggers here. In your colour I believe. They'd both probably accept 500€ (about £420) http://www.zikinf.com/annonces/dispannonce.php?annonce=989154 http://www.zikinf.com/annonces/dispannonce.php?annonce=916962

Best of luck with the remaining band. It's all part of the rock and roll circus. Re your comment about being gratefull about them taking on a middle aged woman etc, I'm sure they wouldn't have had you not been up to the job. Don't sell yourself short and rock on.
I gigged for years with a £70 OLP. Great bass. Agree with an earlier comment re the audience at your average gig not knowing the difference or caring about the tone etc. As much as I lust after a Fodera MGS, my Squier CV Jazz is perfect for my needs.
Same here. Currently gig an £80 OLP 5 string. Everyone reckons it sounds better than anything else I've ever used over here. (Fbass, Fender CS, Spector, Status) Weird, but satisfying.

Didn't want to hijack Herman's 6 string Yammy thread so started this one. All I see over here are hundreds of JM2's for sale. All around the 500€ mark (some quite a bit cheaper) I'm not in the market for anything but why are these so cheap secondhand? Were they cheap new are they just not very good? I seem to remember a few on BC who love them. Anybody got one? What's the story?

The early JP models were 34" scale. If you can find one they are fabulous, and great value for money. Usually turn up for about a grand. A new one (35") are 3,000€ over here. In fact, there was a MK1 on Ebay UK a couple of weeks ago with a spare fretless neck. Think it went for £1050. Tremendous basses. See if you can find an early TRB6.

I don't believe the original Japanese Tune basses (from the Maniac days) ever had this sort of quilt finish. The older Jap ones that I've seen and played were just a nice plain natural finish or solid colour. Could be wrong though I suppose. Frankly, I don't think that's a great price. There was a red Japanese original on there for about 6 months for £550 and it never sold as far as I know. I'm sure the Korean ones are nice instruments but at that price, I'd look for a Japanese one. In fact, I think there are a couple for sale over here that are originals and quite a bit cheaper. I'll see if I can find a link. Both sold now. One for 600€, other for 620€

Wedding music suggestions required please.
leschirons replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
Can't suggest any music for the day but congratulations anyway. All the best for the future. -
62 in about a week and been playing live since age 15. Nowdays it's a party covers band thing on bass and a jazzy duo on guitar. However, from time to time, me and a guitarist will fancy a bit of rocking out, put a trio together (assuming there's a drummer available that can count to 8) and do a couple of classic rock gigs. (Lizzie, G'n'R, AC/DC etc) Great fun but I need a rest for about 6 months afterwards. That does me. It never occurs to me what others may think. Edit: I've even been in one the the 43 bands called Mid-life Crisis
'Northern Lights' always reminds me, stylistically, of the music to Follyfoot and White Horses (both of which I also loved as kid). Also, does anyone remembers 'Solstice' (I auditioned for them but didn't get the gig - no surprise as I wouldn't have given to to me at that time either!!).
Weren't they American or Canadian? Name rings a bell for being a bit "Gong" like (but it was all a long long time ago so I could be talking utter rubbish)

Nice one Johngh, the only other man that appreciates Patrick Rondat. Can't believe that no-one has got Jeff Beck in their band So here's my rock line-up Guitars, Jeff Beck and Patrick Rondat Vox, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) Drums, Matt Abts (Govt Mule) Keys, Tony Hymas Bass, me in the corner looking lost. Here's my Barbican line-up Guitars, Russ Freeman and Lee Ritnour Drums, Sonny Emory Keys, Dave Grusin and Joe Zawinul Sax, Eric Marienthal Bass, me in the corner looking lost

Signature Basses That Don't Exist...But Should
leschirons replied to Freddy Le Cragg's topic in General Discussion
How come no manufacturer has ever offered "signature" upright double basses? (No doubt someone will prove me wrong but I've never heard of any) I guess they must think that upright players wouldn't feel the need to lash out around £35,000 for a "Ron Carter RC55 deluxe" or a "Charlie Mingus Mojo 2" -
Signature Basses That Don't Exist...But Should
leschirons replied to Freddy Le Cragg's topic in General Discussion
Owning two sig basses, I actually feel mixed about them. In principle, I find the idea of owning a replica of someone else's bass odd (unless you're in a tribute band or a HUGE fan!) so I went for the whole 'go in and try as many as possible and buy the one that is best!' idea. Both times that turned out to be the signature model. There isn't a jazz bass I've played with a neck quite like the Geddy. For me, I loved it and wouldn't have had that profile on a standard production model. Similarly, I went for the Nate Mendel precision because the neck profile is so different to the other standard precision neck profiles and the addition of the bad ass bridge, quarter pounder and nitro finish swung it. I suppose the feel and sound rather than the signature on the headstock made the decision for me.
+1 for this reply. The only sig bass I've owned was a Roscoe Beck V. I bought it purely for what the bass played like and sounded like (and I just happened to love what it looked like) Nothing to do whatsoever with Roscoe Beck being some sort of hero. He just happened to help design a bass that really worked for me. I would still have bought it if it had said Deirdre Barlowe on the headstock. -
Sounds like a nightmare. I think the key to all this is your line " the keyboard player, who has been a fairly successful musician in the past" with "the past" being the important bit. He's obviously not successful now because people know what he's like. Without doubt, a "big fish in little pond" situation. Unfortunately, there are a lot of folks out there with a much higher opinion of themselves than is in truth, deserving and in this case, he obviously doesn't realise that in doing what he'd done at these gigs, he's the least professional person on the stage. Each band member has a duty (I believe) to do what they can to ensure the song, the performance and the band is the best they can offer to any audience on the night. Sounds like you certainly kept your end of the bargain up anyway. As (I think Flyfisher) pointed out, seems strange that he would put people in this position at a live gig knowing (as he's been a fairly successful musician in the past) that it might make the whole band look bad

Next time he's at your gig, ask him to keep an eye on the guitarists technique and the vocalists pitching too as they've been looking for some advice on those issues
