Great gig last night. The French fete de la musique at Chateauroux. Played with a great guitarist from the south in a hastily thrown together band. 2,000 in the audience and we were lucky enough to get the 10.30 spot when it wasn't raining.

Ah, good old days. The Mrs went to Redbridge Tech. I remember seeing Atomic Rooster, Black Widow, Edgar Broughton, T2, Sam Apple Pie and Stray etc down there. Loads of great bands around then.
Badly worded post done in a hurry. . Sorry to offend.
No apology needed Bilbo, except from me on reflection. Your post just caught an over- picky, grumpy old man on a bad day.
It would be a very inexperienced listener who did not recognise Jaco in a second but what is interesting is the bass he is playing is not his. Can you guess what make of bass it is?
Not quite sure which of these two sentences I find more condescending. The one about the "very inexperienced listener" or the one that sounds like a question to a bunch of 4 year olds

Cheese on toast, big coffee and a cigar. Glad your gig went well.
+1, and I should have taken my bass teachers advice and joined a band much sooner than I did.
Me too, except I should have followed my bass teacher's advice and NOT joined a band

Just getting to the end of this now. Some bloke called Miguel who's singing goes a bit wafty when he dances (apparently No1 in the USA) Deep Valley, no bass, and no talent and probably no pants Beady eye, sh*t anyway Bloke from OMD got his bass strung upside down if I wasn't imagining it Bloke doing a poem. What's this programme coming to?

Over the years I've had many conversations with musos both here in France and back in our native UK. All the time I hear "you were so lucky to have been around at that time" (I'm 61 so my passion with music started in the 60's) It seems that, especially over here, all my friends wished they could have been around to see all those people like Jon Hiseman, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, John Mayall, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Who, Alexis Korner, Page / Clapton etc performing at a time when they were pushing boundaries and available to watch in clubs, Uni's and pubs. All at a time when music was evolving at a real pace. Obviously they still have an opportunity to see those that are still alive and performing but when they mention some name from the past and I tell them that I saw them at the Marquee or the Cook's Ferry etc, they can't believe it. Of course, music is still changing and I've tried to embrace all that has come along but having had the opportunity to see artists like Buddy Rich, Laura Nyro, Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Gong, the original Fleetwood Mac, and all the artists above, I guess I was lucky.

Why do you want to know what gear your heroes use?
leschirons replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I buy what suits me, playability and looks wise. Not interested in famous player's gear. No point in buying a Fodera ying-tong in order to sound like Victor Wooten unless you put in the other 25 years of experience, practice and theory to go with it. That's what makes him, him. I always end up with the same sound anyway no matter what I use as I like a particular sound and seem to be able to get it no matter what I use. -
Then at the jams, I was not all that much better... on the plus side, on the funkier jams, I managed to resist slapping entirely. I'm proud of that
And now they'll all be sitting there saying "pity, I was hoping he'd be able to slap in the funky numbers, he would have been ideal"

Well, whatever his reasons for dressing like that be it promotion or lifestyle choice, he's got the figure for it. I know know quite a few females who would kill to look like that.
Will no-one post the Korean transvestite bass player vid? Tsk... if you want something doing... http://www.youtube.c...?&v=cmQvxfo75K0 Lucky for you it won't post properly for some reason!
TOP MAN. Beat me to it. He's a great, fun player (and better looking than 96% of the females in our village to boot )

This one gets my vote.

Brian Bromberg for me. Anything on upright from the album "You know that feeling"

Sounds like the gig of your dreams. Congratulations for putting it all together.
Well, it's this bread, only it's made with potatoes. You fry it, and it's lovely with an egg and some bacon.
This sounds like a hash-brown but I think I remember having this once with a huge Irish breakfast in Cork. Edit: (Obviously wrong here as I've just read it's from N.I.)

Caught that the other night. Thought she was brilliant. (And the band)
Seriously disappointed at the context in which the word "slap" is used in this thread. This should go in the "Off Topic" forum where I can talk about my chronic masturbation problem.
Away you go, we're all listening.

Did we ever find out what The Hat meant with the original post? I remember Milty and me asking and since then, the thread has covered potatoe bread, God, the first 119 Metallica albums and the Rammerstein's window cleaner

Are you saying that there's no need for a bassplayer in a metal band, or are you saying you wouldn't want to play bass in a metal band? Metal is not my thing personally and of course there are a few scenarios where you can play without bass but I've never heard of anything rock orientated which doesn't require a bass.

Not if I can get the setlist all on one sheet in 20 pt font size. That way I can read it when it's on the floor. Otherwise, prescription shades.

Proper acoustic insulation is expensive. Over the last few years here, I've been involved with quite a lot of dry lining work including two rehearsal studios (mine and a friend's) I used the real stuff for mine from a local company called Eurocoustic but only because I got some B stock with damaged boxes. Rocwool is not really dense enough to make a difference as it's more designed to have good thermal protection qualities. The good stuff comes in panels and is much more dense and heavy. As BigRedX points out, the secret is layers. I'm assuming that you'll be partitioning off say, half of your garage and that some of the walls will be brick. Best to put up some stud work, fill that with the cheap stuff, board it (10mm board will do) and then another layer of stud on top, fill that, and then board with 13mm, compacting each layer of insulation as much as possible each time. Of course, if you're leaving any windows in the studio section, they would ideally need to be covered too but you'll never really be able to completely isolate 100% of the sound.
I don't want to upset the smarter old people around here so I should point out I'm using 'old people' as a polite way to avoid saying 'thick people'.
You? banned from OT? Can't imagine how that could happen. Re the OP. No complaints here whatsoever but then I'm very shallow and a lot of stuff goes over my head.

Basschat auction. It's over, we have a winner.
leschirons replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
i DECLARE THIS AUCTION OVER. We have a winner ladies and gents. Truckstop, the obscenely rich 13th Earl of St Albans, has kindly bid the princely sum of £25. Would the lucky winner please PM their full name and address to me and I will send the item first thing Monday (may take a few days as I'm in France) May be best if you also PM Ped to see what he wants you to do with the money. Thanks all who placed a bid and joined in the fun and as usual, this is testament to the generosity of Basschatters. Thanks again, and a good weekend to you all. leschirons
