1.
Yes, amazing things. I played on a multi-act charity do a year back where a chap did a few numbers on one. Supposedly 17th century French folk tunes. The novelty soon wore off.....the bar takings went up though!
2. You can cover up any duff bits with some fast slapping. That should work
3.
weekend bump, lower price. check out melvin davis playing the ken smith design on you tube, lee ritenour overtime vid, papa was a rolling stone. also e.ramerez, sadowsky pre amp test...nice playing.
I forgot all about your bass just listening to this great line-up and track Going to see Lee Ritnour and Dave Grusin in May. Must admit though, I'm sorely tempted. Lovely looking instrument.
4. Gave the banjo an outing last night at a free for all folky club. Great fun. Need to seriously get some lessons or sort out some Youtube stuff but certainly going to persevere as I'm just using basic guitar picking at present. French lady turned up with a Hurdy Gurdy. First time I've ever had the opportunity to play along with one. Fantastic bit of kit but fairly limited key-wise. She said she'd paid €1,400 for it as it's "only" an intermediate model!!!
5. Certainly not expensive for that guitar. You'd probably be able to sell it on at a profit if you don't get on with it.
6. Just got a 6 string for my birthday. Love it. It's getting an outing tomorrow night at a folk club.
7. Okay, we have a winner, ALYCTES and a superbly generous gesture it is too.
8. Only one hour to go and now upgraded to proper guitar padded gig bag.
9.
happy birthday then! this is one the coolest presents a wife could hand to a musician. double congrats on this.
Yup, this one's certainly a keeper. The amp is great too
10.
That is awesome!!
Cheers Guys. I just hope I can do it some justice. I'm no Larry Carlton, more Larry Grayson. Bought the little Peavey to use at rehearsals here so no other bugger gets to use my head and the 2x12 stereo was meant to replace my Blues Deville for clean stuff. I need more space
11. Well gang, At the moment, it feels like I'm the luckiest bloke alive. It's my birthday today (60) and last night we had a party. My guitarist turned up with our friend who built his (and my) guitar heads. He knew that I'd been hankering after a head like mine but in combo format ( which he does not make) for some time and had always said that if I hit the lottery, I'd commission one. It seems that there is now a "Keith" (yeah I know) combo in the range as my wife had done just that and had one built for me. 40 watts, reverb that is progressive with the gain control. Celestion G12 Rock driver and an impedance control to match the amp with pickup output. Got to bed at 6 am so gonna plug in and give it a blast later tonight. I seriously don't deserve my wife.
12.
hmmm... I'm not sure I'm allowed to bump this, but I'm going to anyway
Not sure, but I can
13.
Its not that I want to be a smart arse, its that I want to be able to be that quick and flexible and to be able to make things work first time instead of by accident/trial and error. Can't see how I could do that without the core knowledge I have collected.
I'm not in anyway suggesting he was a smart arse. It's just so obvious to me now that with his knowledge of theory (and experience) he, like you, can make an instant decision as to what will work best rather than me stumbling around and eventually coming across something that works so I make you right. Plenty of options, at your fingertips. I'm just gratefull that he's happy to impart all this info at the moment. He writes a lot for radio and TV so he's got the benefit of composition experience too. I love it, gives me something to aspire to.
14.
I remember being totally wowed by the M1 when it came out! Fantastic keyboard at the time. If I had the space I'd go for it, but sadly I don't
I'm on my second one. Had first when they first came out and ended up selling it to Brian whatshisname from Frankie goes to Hollywood after they split up. Think his band was Techtronix? Bought second one a couple of years back for £250 so this one is really cheap for what it does.
15. Can't believe this is still here. Classic quality keyboard for no money. If I didn't have one, I'd pull your arm off.
16. I need theory. This has become obvious to me recently. I thought I had a good grounding but since we've found a new keyboard player for a covers band I'm in, I realise this is not the case. His level of musicianship is way above the rest of the band and now every 10 minutes, we're having to stop as he's suggesting a different note here and there for the bass or an alternative chord for guitar that would never had occurred to us and he's right, all the time. I'm not saying I hadn't learned the songs correctly but we wanted a more funky feel to the music and tend to veer from the originals in some way so he's throwing in a few nice chords here and there and I found it a little embarassing that I just couldn't find the notes that compliment them. Yesterday, in the rehearsal break he was just repeating a couple of chords and then played about 6 bass lines that would work with them. 90% of these wouldn't have even occured to me. Some sounded nicer than others but it's the fact he was able show, and explain, all the options that are open to him.
17. My jazz bass. Never held anything skinnier.
18. Usually only have to change mine for wooden suspended stages. Stays where it's normally set if I'm on solid ground. Then, the only changes that are made are to keep up with guitarists and over enthusiastic drummers
19. Okay, there needs to be a time limit on this to make it all fair. It's been on for a week now so the end date and time is going to be Sunday 15th at 10.pm UK time and a big thank you to all who have participated so far.
20.
everything looks the wrong way round. Is there a problem with your camera?
Yeah sorry, I bought cheap
21. That's French so that suits me. You are.......... The top courgette. Or I suppose you could be the Zukini zenith
22. Low B for me. Nothing like a D or C on the B string for getting the place shaking. In addition, when I do play a 4 string, the stuff in Eb & D is a tad wimpy so for me the low B is a blessing.
23. Welcome, and hi from France also seeing as you appear to attracting Francophiles (although my mother in law lives in Watton) Loads of good stuff and nice people here (Basschat, that is)
24. Vizy 22 watt tube head, Vizy OD unit and a pair of Marshall 1912s Usually use a Boss DD3 and an LNA Rat boost pedal.
