A Peavey Classic 30. About £250 secondhand. Brilliant.
Really, why? What compels you to make, or be a part of, music?
I've no idea. I complain about everything I play and what other people with me play as well. I get frustrated when I play with much better musicians but there is some sort of weird "danger" buzz going on at the same time. I get frustrated when I play with people below my level. I've been looking for a band that doesn't exist in my world for the last 10 years. I don't compose as I have nothing to offer that would come up to my expectations. But, I still do it.
I'll clap the tube driver this morning then, when I arrive at my destination. If he's working.
Seems like the audience has a harder job than I'd previously anticipated. Surely 1.20 of badly recorded iphone video is not an ideal platform on which to make a judgement unless we'd all been there to see the rest. Maybe he'd played amazing stuff for the previous hour. People do afterall, get into the habit of clapping. I gave up trying to understand the public a long time ago as I've had issues ever since I started playing live. French audiences especially will appreciate whatever you do, good or bad and I'm one of those that will analyse a performance after a gig. It's been a long haul getting some band members to see past 300 people clapping and dancing when we'd played like crap.
We know Victor is a fabulous and immensely musical bassist. The questions surround the athletics audience, and perhaps dear Victor's monetary exploitation of their needs.
Or maybe he's just doing what he's been paid to do, just like in a normal job.

I could be wrong but I'm guessing that as he's standing in front of a Hartke rig with a big Hartke banner behind him, he's doing a clinic or gear demo of some sort and there to impress the punters with some pyrotechnics and I assume he's being paid for it. Bit unfair to judge his playing on that if that is the case. It's probably just the bit that pays the mortgage. I've seen him three times live and this is not what you get. You get tastefull and well constructed bass playing. I doubt that Nigel Clutterbuck stands in a pub and plays 8,000,000 notes per second either (assuming he's in a band that is)

One off auction for Basschat funds. The Mods have kindly agreed to allow this as they hope the expected finish price may allow them to help maintain the Basschat site and go on a camping holiday together at Dale Farm. Up for auction is this quite stunning, left handed, sunburst, Reg Holdsworth signature series Strat from the little known Stagg Custom Shop. Rare SSH pickup arrangement with plastic still on scratchplate, standard Strat type trem unit and recently upgraded cable tie holding the low E string onto the nut. Neck & body dates have been checked. Both are clearly marked “Tuesday” Joking aside, a French mate played this last night (as I'm right handed) and it does really do the SRV Little wing thing exceptionally well. A really nice sound using no effects and just a simple tube head through a 1x12. It can be collected from Essex / London area when I get it sent over from France after the auction has finished, and the final price has been paid to Basschat. Alternatively, delivery to you from Essex could also be arranged at winner’s cost. It will come with its original paper thin oversized gig-bag with wonky zipper, all adjustment tools, cleaning kit and case candy (Hammer, saw, Cillit bang and bag of sweets) The Stagg headstock logo had been removed for some reason but this does not detract from the vintage vibe and obviously gives the new owner the opportunity of writing something in the space. The instrument has recently been checked over by French master luthier and bass guru Christophe Leduc who simply commented “C’est un branleur” which I’m told by my French guitarist, means “It’s a beauty”. The auction is starting at a modest £10 to encourage bidding so please dig deep for this worthy cause and just take a moment to think about their little faces when they wake up in their tent on the first morning.

Started at age 7 with violin (in 1959) at 15 with drums, moved to guitar at age 25, then to bass at 35 keys at about 45 and more recently Banjo, Uke & Mandolin. Just need an upright now to finish off my days with.
Yeah, one of the guitar players in the band used to go down to see him every week (Thursday nights IIRC). His brother (whose name escapes me right now I'm ashamed to say), is an awesome bass player in his own right. Doesn't he have Dave Kilminster in his band these days? As for the EN10, I've had one for years and it's an amazing instrument, just seems to deal with everything you throw at it. I love mine (battered as it is from use) to bits. When I bought it (£765), I chose it over a £1200 Fylde. Remarkable instrument and a real steal for what I paid for it.
Guthrie's brother is Seth, and yes, he's brilliant. Used to go down to Romford and see the band. At that time Guthrie was playing with Sam on keys, Zak on sax, Pete Riley on drums and sometimes, my old bass teacher Andy Staples.

Would someone recommend me a CD to check out please.
leschirons replied to M-N-Y's topic in General Discussion
Oh, you mean as in music... -
I currently play with two drummers (not at the same time) One is very funk based and the other more of a rock drummer. I play completely differently with each. I must admit though, I need to be more aware of one and keep eye contact and communication going more than the other and it can make it a harder gig although I have a good relationship with both.

Bought a couple of amps from Gaf. Great deal and very helpful and easy to deal with.

Ideas for a quick solo or famous riff in E
leschirons replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
Run for cover, Marcus Miller and David Sanborne. Love games, Level 42. -
Between nothingness & eternity, and Birds of Fire. Both early albums but absolutely brilliant. Don't know much about the later stuff but still play these two today.

Bass Solo. Should You and How to ?
leschirons replied to MusicLover20015's topic in General Discussion
Only played a solo once, and shouldn't have Got slung in at the deep end on the quick and all I could think of playing were guitar phrases in Minor Pentatonic. Must have sounded cack, so now I don't. Don't really play any stuff that suits it and am pretty sure that if we did, I wouldn't do the song any justice -
I regularly gig with a passive Aria 6 string. Total outlay, £155. Okay, it doesn't have the tonal qualities of the Spector but its half the weight, stays in tune and does the job. It also doesn't matter that much if some idiot knocks it over. If I need fretless, the OLP comes out too. I do use my expensive basses but have no issues using a cheapy. If there's a snobby bass player in the audience, I'll happily hand them the Aria and ask if they'd like to do a number with us. A quick count of the strings usually shuts them up although no doubt one day I'll come unstuck
I had one of these I wish I hadn't got rid of.
Ooh lovely, and very nearly a "snap" Bilbo, although mines not an Ibanez. Really regret selling this.

Just bought a sax from David. Arrived quickly and well packaged. A good deal from a very nice BCer.

Great stuff, really enjoyed the band and the background story.
