I've known about this for some time as I asked Jon Shuker if he could make me a lightweight, 5-string Jazz bass. He mentioned he was prototyping a new bass for JJB and explained how the body was going to be constructed. Sounded perfect for me as well so I asked him to build similar for me although I'm going for a slightly downsized Jazz-style body instead of the P bass shape and a set-neck which means even more weight saving. Jon seems fairly optimistic he can get close to a 7 lb bass for me. Still a couple of months to completion (I must chase him up on progress) but I'll post an update/review when I pick up the bass. Specs are: 5-string Jazz body with set neck. Flamed maple neck with vintage tint, rosewood board & MOP blocks. Finished in Sonic Blue with matching head stock & a Tort plate. I'm going for an extra mint green plate too and decided on a P/J configuration with a passive-only circuit, so vol/pan/tone controls. Oh and some neck LED's to finish it all off! Cannae wait.

I've bought a few from www.designacable.com, who wants a boring black cable!

So, it's OK to make profit in a way that you think is acceptable, i.e. listing fees but not profit in a way you don't think is acceptable, i.e. selling your personal information. I think we have the same opionion, it's just I don't agree so much with the listing fee approach either.
I don't think there's any suggestion - or possibility - of the owners selling our personal info.
But didn't you just say that you were OK with profit being made from Basschat?
-
+1 It's not like basschat is a democratic collective or communal entity, at least not in its hierarchical structure... it has owners and administrators, is overseen constantly and has expenses and overheads like any other business. I wouldn't mind much if there was a surplus that gets trousered and spent on high-grade porn... after all, it's not like we're being ripped off, is it? Like some other web-based operations I could mention.
If people want to make a profit then I'm not against that, but I personally didn't think that's what Basschat was all about. Maybe I've got my rose-tinted specs on again. Would you be happy , for example if the owners thought they could profit from selling on your personal information or any pictures you've posted ala Facebook. That would be another revenue source they could easily make some cash from. I also think £7 for listing a £51 pedal is getting close to being ripped off, I prefer the ebay model of cheap listing and percentage of sale but that again is just my opinion.

It's just my opinion. I think Basschat is a great forum, run & used by like-minded individuals. I appreciate there's running costs and these have to be paid somehow.
-
I only asked because, I agree that people shouldn't have to pay for it out their own pocket. However, if it's now being done for profit I don't really agree with that either.

I've read most of this thread & one question I don't think has been asked is, how much does it cost to run Basschat for a year?

I kept my BF Compact in our trailer & being honest it couldn't take the abuse of travelling. It had a cover, but it was still dented & pretty badly beaten after only a few months. Had Ashdown, Schroeder and now GK and these didn't show any signs of wear & tear. Got to agree that they are great cabs if you want to stick it in the back of a car, but not bombproof. That's why I don't think you'll see touring bands playing through them anytime soon.

I've never met the guy but Rory only stays 10 minutes away from me. I did find his website a few months back and was keen to pay him a wee visit as I need a repair done on my acoustic guitar at some point. Good luck with the build and let me know how it goes as I'd be keen to use Taran Guitars as well. Cheers.

Hello all As the build on my new lightweight Shuker progresses, I've decided to sell my stay-at-home Fender Precision 5-string Bass to help raise funds towards the new build. Like I say it's never been out of the house. I believe it's a 2009 in as new condition with hard case & all the extras. Fitted with a set of Status half-round strings as well. I'm going to try posting some pics, wish me luck!!! [s]£850[/s] Now £800 collected. Would really prefer not to courier, but willing to travel a reasonable distance to deliver.

Ah, you just beat me to it Lee.

We've used a free Google GMail Calendar for years, setup an account and then everyone creates a new diary on their phone pointing to it. Works for both iphone & Android smartphones and can also be accessed on a PC. If you want to get smart you can use the GMail calendar feed to display on your band website showing available dates & the likes.

I have a Fender P5 that will going up for sale soon. Just thought I'd say, although with a new Shuker bass on the way I can't offer to trade unfortunately. Drop me a PM if you manage to sell and your interested in a 2009 Fender USA P5 in sunburst, rosewood & tort? Like new with all case candy. Cheers.

I'd love to but gigging both the Saturday & Sunday night....

Thank you Dave.

He does say in the listing that he'll let someone pay & collect, so bit of a get out. However, other than the neck plate (which could be original on a bitsa Precision) he doesn't say anywhere that it's an Original bass or give any year. We're all just putting 2+2 together.

Does that tell me when the EAD 1x12" cabs will be available. Please start a "We Love Spoombung" topic, if there isn't one already.... Cheers.

The only time I had volume issues on my ABM 500 III amp was when I pressed the EQ button in (or out I can't remember) the volume dropped to next to nothing and I thought my amp was done! I don't know how, or why it works that way or why the big drop in volume but I'd check that setting too.
-
I've kept an eye on the EAD thread for nearly 18 months and still no sign of a 1x12" cab actually being produced! Did I say I've also created an amazing prototype cab, it's covered in an ultratuff coating made from albino Unicorn Horns and uses new aerospace technology that doesn't use loudspeakers to create waveforms, instead it's based on trained mini gibbons waving fans. And, I can price this at just under a hundred quid a cab!!! I'll keep you posted on progress.

Just going to say the same as glefty, any Warwick. Too narrow for me I'm afraid, as much as I wanted to love the 5-string Stage II that I had.

From a personal level, I thought that the SVT3 lacked volume or maybe more specifically a cut/presence in the band mix. I tried it for 3-4 gigs and remember the band saying the same. I went from Ashdown to Ampeg to Ashdown to Markbass and I'm now back to Ashdown although quite fancy the new Markbass MoMark kit. A mute button at last!
