You should try the Dunlop flats in 45-105 gauge if you're looking for a flexible flatwound string.

I think tension isn't the correct word here. I think flexibility is more appropriate. If you're after light gauge, flexible roundwounds then I would suggest the following: Dunlop Black Label Nickels Dunlop Super Brights D'Addario XLs DR Sunbeams / Hi Beams / Fat Beams Thomastik Jazz Rounds

If I am buying a DI box that can be used with phantom power, I always try to make sure it has an LED which indicates whether it is on or not. A small feature but it avoids having to use guesswork about whether the battery will go mid gig.

If people think it's okay to drop £100 on a cable then I think their life priorities need sorting out!

Not strictly BB but Yammy related... My friend has shown an interest in learning the bass guitar. I have a chance to get a TRBX 174 for him which seems to be in good nick. I have never actually played this model before so wanted to get some advice on whether to go for it?

A string brighter than Roto steels? I think you might struggle there. I would say either DR Hi Beams or D'Addario ProSteels.

If the Orchid Classic DI detects phantom power, does the pedal automatically switch to that power source and cut the battery inside?

Well, once I had negated the non issues I was having... I was blown away! The bass only weighs 6lbs 7ozs so is really easy on the back and shoulders. This teamed with my Neotech strap makes playing standing up a doddle. The Black Label pickups are fantastic. Modern and punchy but they have a warmth that seems to be missing from a lot of pickups nowadays. The active preamp again is extremely versatile and a lot of different tones can be dialled in. Even on passive mode, the bass still feels alive and will have no problems cutting through in a live situation. The neck is a joy to move around. The Sandberg tuners and bridge do a very good job of keeping everything stable - it takes a lot to make this bass go out of tune. I know it's still early days but I can see this being one of the last basses I'll ever need. The EQ options on tap, the sound of the pickups, the feel of the neck, the quality of the hardware and the super light weight adds up to a fantastic bass. Not to mention the build quality which is top notch!
