1. I'm reminded of a (dearly departed) friend of mine who had the strange habit of getting his wife to make a call to me before putting him on the phone. She had a very posh, sexy voice and started the call:- "Hello..........Haaaaaard?" Oh how I looked forward to those calls
2. Looks like a re-badged Westbury - check out Silentbob's thread in basses for sale.
3. Seeing the current fashion for these, can anyone suggest a clamping system for attaching this tuner to the headstock?
4.
I'm a jazz musician. What's applause?
It's the rock equivalent of people smiling, nodding and saying 'grrrreat'.
5.
A few years ago a customer came into our shop and said he'd had his PA amp modified by an electronics guy. He had a switch fitted, and he said before that nobody ever applauded his performance. However, when he flicked the switch, the audience clapped every time. True story.
Ah yes, that'll be the switch that brought a projector into play displaying a scantily-clap super model on the backdrop
6.
Is the official stuff any different from standard weather strip rubber?
Probably taller - so weather strip could be layered to get the right height (ditto for mouse mat rubber).
7.
I actually don't mind the chicken heads.
Should work well with drummers..... Whilst of course playing numbers by Wings.
8. Someone has aquired BA55 DOC. Clue:- He's a member of this forum and is not a million miles away from where I am.
9. Bought some Fender bits from Paddy. Couldn't have gone smoother - great deal from a relative newcomer.
10. Nickel for tuners - except the 'posts' which were chrome. Chrome for the bridge plate. Which other bits do you want to know about?
11. BILBO SEEKS TAB FOR MOONDANCE.
12. BIG POPPA ASKS FORUM FOR SUGGESTIONS TO COMBAT 'WEAK G-STRING SYNDROME'.
13. Can't do a link but if you find this being auctioned by 'rockguitarjeff' and are fancying a punt, I know the owner personally and could broker a deal 'off the record' as opposed to via Evilbay....nudge, wink etc. It really is as good in the flesh as described. PM if seriously interested.
14. Yup, it's one I built a while back. I have no connection with the present owner but would suggest one could buy with confidence!
15. I personally wouldn't fit extra-long - just wait till you can get the correct scale length. You could try D'Addario Chromes 45-100 as an alternative.
16. Yes It's one of mine and likely to be 35" scale if memory serves me correctly. The spelling of my surname is indicative of my Sicilian roots and if anyone criticises my work they will be visited by men carrying violin cases who don't actually play the violin.
17. Excellent dealings with Dunk. A truly splendid and trustworthy chap.
18. 'VINT' Cerf is regarded as one of the fathers of the internet. He was born in 1943 so accordingly the age of Vint is 68 years.
19. As a dep for an intrumental-only trio - a single audient who stayed for the duration and gave a round of applaud after each number. There was however also a barman and the guitarist's wife 'on the door'.
20.
Hi Howard!
Howdo John. Yours has a fair bit more paint on it than my 63! - nice one. H.
21. At this point in time I play bass better than Jaco Pastorious.
22.
Nope, no difference.
That's interesting. I reckon I could tell if someone changed my 63 pickup to a Mex because when I turned the wick up on a gig it would lack a certain definition. That's not because it's a 63 but more because the Mex uses bar magnets as opposed to alnico pole pieces and the former is probably the cheapest way to build a pickup. (a Fender 62 re-issuse may just fool me). Maybe you don't gig the 58.
23.
Is there any way to tell by listening?
Good point. Kindly install a Mex pickup in your '58 Precision and let me know if you can hear a difference.
24. Well the guy I fitted the Audere for has since ditched it in favour of a John East pre. So don't fall out out with the pickups just yet - I'm a big fan of the Wizards.
25. I assume that you have followed the instructions supplied with the circuit? It's been a while since I fitted an Audere of this type but I seem to recall the installation instructions made a point of not earthing the negative side of the pickups to the 'general' earth path (i.e. the pots/cavity shielding) but to observe the colour coding table which indicated a specific wire (I think white with green stripe) for the neg. side of both pickups. Apologies in advance if you have already covered this point.
