Make sure everything works beforehand. My guitarist just got one and is already replacing cables (well he will be once I start taking picks off him)
a band i was in years ago played metroland at the metrocentre once. that was weird...massive PA, kids on fun rides...and a bunch of us crusties playing...
Cool, I live near there. I think. In Newcastle yeah? That must have been fun...

I have had my bass for ages now, and have never considered how good it really was. I am wondering if any guys know what woods it's made from, the scale, all that stuff. It is a Tanglewood Liberty Starter Bass. I love it to bits, so knowing more about it will be well nice.

Cut your nails? My advice on EQ is to set everything to neutral, then use your bass tone/EQ knobs, then do your amp EQ. It depends on the sound you want really.

Is the Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer actually a compressor proper? Or have I just asked for the wrong thing for christmas? Also, if I have got it wrong, what compressors are good?
Just wondering what they were, so what you said pretty much. So at a largeish gig, if I see a big wall of speakers about 8ft high and a long way across, are they PA's? I probly sounds stupid, but thanks for your help mate!
Essentially. But it can be just one tiny speaker. At a small gig, the PA will be mainly for the benefit of the singer and guitarists. The bassist is at a different frequency so can hear him/herself easily, and the drummer needs earplugs not to deafen himself. The PA also includes a mixer and normally monitors.
Talk about a timely thread! Having been inspired by the recent North East mini convention (not that I went), I was about to suggest I sorted something out similar for a Harrogate venue. I was thinking of it being a Saturday in late Jan or Feb. The reason for Harrogate is its easy to get to from the A1 for the North East members, and of also most of Leeds, Bradford and York is within 25 miles. There's also several BCers in Harrogate already. I have a venue in mind that can cope with all numbers. So, if folk want me to proceed with this, I will.
When was the NE one?! And why wasn't I invited?!

Sweat? Kill the strings? EDIT: Like make the strings dead. Makes sense to me

I would go for the 2eq, and then later on if you need the extra controls on it, just install a new pickup+controls.
Any bass player worth his (or her) salt should be able to do their own basic setup. There's LOTS of advice on this site and elsewhere on the web. The trussrod thing - be sure you need to adjust it (hold down at the first fret and as near to the last as you can and check the clearance at the 12th - there should *just* be some) at all first, then make no more than a quarter turn at a time then leave for hours to settle. Regarding cleaning, use a proper guitar cleaner - not Mr. Sheen
Thanks mate. I have read up on fretcare. Can you put beeswax on any wood?
I use a hercules stand like this one seems to do the job for me and they are very sturdy. DAve
I heartily agree. I have a single one and they are really good. They hold your bass/guitar by the headstock. Sounds odd but it works really well.

Hi dudes. I have had my bass for over 3 years now and have never even changed the factory strings. I am wanting to service it as the strings are dead, the action is not great and I just want to get it all cleaned. Does anyone have any tips? I know how to do everything, but I am nervous about action/truss rod adjustments etc. and I don't really trust myself to do it properly. It will be a learning experience, but also may f*ck up my bass big time...

What is your opinion on the Boss GT-10B? I am sort of considering it against the Line6 Bass PODxt Live.

How do I achieve a growly tone in terms of turning knobs etc? I love the bass tone of players like John Campbell (LOG) and Adam Duce (Machine Head). They both have a really awesome agressive growly tone and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I could get this type of tone. My bass has a bridge and neck pickup both with volume and a tone controls. My amp has all the regular, so volume, presence, 3-band. Thank you.

I have an RG370DX (guitar) but am looking to get an SR305. Thoughts on this?
Thanks guys, some cool stuff to work on there I like the spider exercises good for dexterity something I've got a problem with I got fingers like a pound of pork sausages What about rhythm exercises any good ones out there? One thing I've been doing with my tutor lately is dong scale patterns up the neck in different modes. Now he wants me to improvise this by playing a pattern for say 4 bars then moving onto the next pattern. But I'm a bit stumped when it comes to the rhythm and timings! Anybody got any words of wisdom on this one?
Try doing like a 4/4 rhythm and different note values. Just get it solid, and improvise loads. Also, play Iron Maiden songs, as the triplelets will rip your face off!
