Might be something to do with the position of the root note, ie above/below ground/uprooted. In the first pic the root note is below the stave, ie under.

I'm not certain if that means I have managed to 'find myself' on a forum for a completely different instrument or if my sense of direction is as bad as @dave moffat thinks. 🙄 @Richard R -he's normally nice to me as I explain the musical notation jokes to him.
