Just replaced the switch as per that video I posted. Very quick job and a massive reduction in acoustic noise. Why I tolerated this noisey click for 5 years is beyond me. Now I want to do the same on my loop pedal.

I wish I had one in the closet. If you get one and don't like it, please send me a message.

Ok well it seems I can't use Google... To answer my own question: However I'm still interested in ideas and experiences from members here

I have an EHX freeze pedal which I use a great deal. Love it.... Except for how loud the switch is! I use this with an acoustic instrument and the volume of each mechanical pedal click is almost unacceptable in the environments I play in. I'm about to do some critical recordings and need to quieten this pedal down. Has anyone replaced foot pedal switches with quieter versions? If so can you point me to what and where (I can use Google, I'm after real world experiences 😃) Cheers Thomas

That's fantastic. I have not seemed to be able to like the Alpher body shapes, but yours looks great! What's the weight like?

Nice one, Thank you for the details!! 😎

SR300 are great basses. I reckon your best bet would be to Invest in a good set up and try some new strings on your Ibanez. I had a very early 2000's Ibanez SR500 and it was fantastically sensitive to the strings I put on it. Feeling and sounding awful with nickel 45-105s, bland with stainless Elites 40-100, better with stainless elites 35-95 and absolutely incredible with Thomastik jazz flats. £300 would get you something different, but not necessarily "better". If your heart is set on a new bass Second hand would definitely be the way to go, but sadly options will be limited at shops and trade in on your bass wouldn't be a huge sum.

not weird. to misquote Eddie Van H , if it sounds right, it is right.

Would you mind outlining what you're running here, Cheers Thomas 🙂

A friend of mine got exactly one like this from Macari's in London in the early 2000's and I was horrified to hear he moved it on a few years after. I would have bought it off him in a heart beat. Musicman position for the pickup gave such a great sound. Incredible construction standard. Lovely, lovely bass

Brilliant, this is what I wanted to hear, thank you!

How loud would you say you could get with that combo and would you have an opinion on the sort of headroom available for a given volume? Cheers Thomas

@Happy Jack Fantastic videos. Thank you for this! @Hellzero great heads up on these amps

This is all so familiar to me. Which comes first I wonder - personality traits that leads one to become a bassist or personality traits that develop from being a bassist.

NBD: '81 Washburn SB-40 fretless (thanks to Andy Travis and Bassassin)
Woodwind replied to Beedster's topic in Bass Guitars
This thread has got my interest up on these basses. I'm forever looking for a lighter, characterful bass to replace my instrument. Longshot, but if anyone has a B40/sb40 to sell I'd be interested to hear. Cheers -
No you're absolutely right. They are shown with regular strings, but I imagine they'll sound and feel at best inconsistent and at worse absolutely awful unless a special string ia used. Perhaps that's the plan - introduce proprietary strings in due course??

Just had these pop up as an advert on my Instagram feed. https://rayrossbridge.com I'm all for Innovation and regard the BBOT bridge as aesthetically wanting if functionally perfect. I really like Warwick 2 part bridges etc However I think I'm missing something with these Ross offerings. The end of the string either wrapped in silk or raw metal isn't designed to be part of the vibrating length. If they'd gone further and incorporated a clamping system like on a headless bass "headstock" where you cut the end of the string off I could see this as having some merit, but as it is I can only see these bridges causing more tonal deficiency than they solve

I started out on French bow, but swapped to the German hold. Try both! You can hold your French bow with a German grip to try it out. You don't quite get the same clearance at the frog, but it works. Similarly I would often hold my German bow with a Fench grip for certain things.

ooh! that looks really good. If I could run my mixer from this on the 18v out that would open up even more possibilities.
-
I can't wait to try this! I imagine I'll likewise use two packs and split them depending on the pedals. Thank you for the heads up on this technique, I had no idea at all
-
Great solution! I will try that as a first step

Just clocked the JoyoJP5 I had no idea these thibgs existed, were so small or so reasonably priced!!!

Hello, Undoubtedly covered elsewhere, but I didn't know quite what to search for to cover the possibilities. There is potentially quite a change to the sort of shows I'll be playing next year and power isn't necessarily a given. I think I know what I'm doing Amplification wise, but have no idea what to do about my effects. Are there rechargeable battery packs that can power an effects board? I'm using five or six 9v pedals (well, apart from the EHX 9.2v) and none have huge current demands as far as I can tell. Thanks in advance for pointers and real world experiences.

Real-world gigging experiences post-COVID - how is it for you?
Woodwind replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
I actually think there will be a lot of mileage in this sort of thing. If I was feeling more entrepreneurial I would start promoting gigs of exactly this nature - Bandstands are on the whole pretty underused. In terms of my own music I'm approaching organisations for shows next year which are very much not in conventional gig settings.
