  1. This bloke currently for me. This vid reminds me of a modern take on John Entwistle of Jack Bruce where he’s all over the place but NEVER playing anything that doesn’t serve the song. I think gospel music is supplying some of the best musicians at the mo in general.
  2. Played a party at the weekend and was introduced to one of the guests. “She’s Jack Bruce’s daughter” the host tells me..thankfully after we finished or it would have been a very nervous performance indeed!
  3. So I've just bought a stomp with a view to ditch the pedal board and also it will allow me to plug straight in to a pa. First gig at the weekend so we'll see...Plan to run it into the return of my LM3. Will take the board as backup but so far very impressed with the sounds in the stomp - both amp/cab sims and effects. Will take a bit of learning but it seems pretty logical and the HX edit software is really simple to use. As others have said, realistically I play most of the time without any effects so its been easy to set up 'presets' for the effects that I do use and a decent 'clean' sound and then just use that for almost everything, setting the effects to buttons to change on the fly. I've also got a ME-50B which has great sounds BUT the reason I wanted the stomp (or something more versatile) is that you're slightly limited about what effects you can run together e.g I don't think you can use the octave and the autowah together as they're on the same bank.
  4. Saw Roachford on Sunday at the waterfront in Norwich. Excellent gig and great venue. Definitely intimate!
  5. I too love it. Having also had a 20 odd year hiatus I’ll take every gig I can get now! And delighted to be in a great local band where we all get on (mostly!)
  6. Borrowed 😌
  7. Fantastic gig on Saturday night at our favourite venue, Coda in Colchester. This bar is owned by two youngish blokes who run it purely as a live music venue and they’re doing well with it. They have jam and open mic nights every week and acoustic sets weekend afternoons. Well worth a look in if you’re ever in Colchester. we had a busy night but finally getting back into our stride after the lockdown took its toll. a compilation from Saturday
  8. Quadrophenia. IMO JE’s finest hour.
  9. Used to use one in a studio in Hackney in the late eighties. It had a lovely warm tone but all I wanted at the time was a Trace!
  10. I have the Boss WL 50 which is the WL20 receiver plus a pedal size transmitter which will charge the receiver and also has a cable emulator switch which helps with active basses. Really impressed with it for the price. Never had any issues.
  11. That has to be one of the most beautiful basses I’ve seen! Massive congratulations. Love to hear what it sounds like.
  12. Paul Weller next Friday in Norwich. They get some good acts at the UEA and it’s a great venue.
  13. This! I'm more of a one band, 4 different basses bloke, but going from a Jazz to a Stingray to a headless Status to a 5 string Lakland causes all sorts of embarrassment!
  14. X2 for the Boss. Works really well and usual boss build quality
  15. Mark King of Level 42.
  16. I might have misremembered but I believe he used an octave pedal to thicken up the sound so you’d need to add that into the mix to try and emulate it.
  17. Colin hodgkinson. Remember seeing him on tv with alexis korner. Very unique style that really struck a chord with me - pardon the pun!
  18. I’m intrigued now. @Hellzero how can you tell it’s an energy and not an s3000? Mine looks exactly the same but does have a separate battery box. We’re they basically the same model but rob decided to change the name?
  19. Haven’t used them myself but a lot of people have recommended Essex Amp repairs to me. Might be worth giving them a call as not a million miles from you. http://www.essexamprepairs.co.uk/
  20. It does look like an s3000. I bought one on here for around that price during lockdown and love it. Although it had been ‘modified’ and I’ve just spent a few quid with Status to get it back to standard. They have an active 18v circuit but it only does treble boost and cut. If you get the serial number then status will have a record of when it was made and original specs etc. Serial should be on the brass fitting at the nut end of the neck. Lovely looking bass.
  21. Transmission by Joy Division. First bassline I ever learned
  22. If I can be cheeky and add a couple (cos I've just been reminded by my iTunes shuffle): Bowie David Live (featuring the late, great Herbie Flowers) and Santa Monica 72 (which I'm sure I first had as a bootleg)
  23. Live at Leeds - the ‘oo if you want blood - AC/DC live at Redrocks - U2 August and everything after live at the town hall - Counting Crows A physical presence - level 42
  24. It is a shame. Unless they're a Level 42 cover band I would imagine that most stuff could be covered finger style until you're up to speed with the slap. Not certain that 'hard funk' has to mean slap. Look at Bootsy!
