Who made you decide "I'm going to play bass!"
thunderider replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
mine was harvey bainbridge of hawkwind i heard him as the bass kicked in on shot down in the night off live 79 and thought i wanna sound like that...also jj burnell no more heros.....then heard chris squire on roundabout...iv always watched bass players wen i go see bands and love basslines....but a member on here, andy marsham, was the first one to thrust a bass guitar in my hand and showed me bass line...but i taught my self master of the universe on a 3 quarter accoustic, but my bass heros today......alan davey and lemmy..... -

im thinking bout buying superbass 100 but my concern is would it drive my 118 cab with out farting out at top end,as in previous thread i have a 100 power amp that not up to the job, idont want to spent heap big money and be left with a kewl looking door stop!!..im just working on the fact theres enough to drive a 412 & 415 stack...(lemmys) im tending to shy away from anything less than 150w then theres the fact its valve so more powerful than solidstate....or what id a good cheap amp,as my spec is no slider eqs or loads of buttons like my laney dp150,all i want is vol,bass,treble,middle..basic powerful amp.....no graphics!!

Its 3 point bridge ive strung it but will play it in rehersal rather it break there!! Use my ric for a while!
-
Its breaking on the bridge so iv ran a file over it incase its a burr,my playing style is pretty heavy but my strings on my rickenfaker have been on for neely a year snd no probs!...i play kinda lemmy style!!
-
My tbird seems to be breaking A strings, any ideas?? I looked theres string marks on the saddle of the bridge could this be the problem or the nut needs to be dressed ??

i use the big triangle dunlop torex ones .88 or .98 or 1.00,im prefering the .88 atm cuz i can spank n twang!! ive tried the dunlop nylon 1.00 but find em too soft

it was a cash converters job, thats why it was cheap...get some good bargains from there...like my epi tbird for £90!! im running a 212 cab with it,i do hook a 115 some times, wich comes in at around 5 ohms, but not no good on my 118,well untill turned up full!!,the laney works just fine, but like i say in after asthetically simpler look,i cant afford a valve,as they have painer faces...good to paint!! im also using a behringer pre amp that gives it a bit more oomph!!!
-
its a custom sound monitor amp,its sposed to be 150 watts but i had it tested and they recond it was only 100w,its 4ohm min, with out pre amp its not very loud, maybe thats me!!, i got my laney with sliders buttons and things,im after a simple powerfull amp, this as 5 band eq and a volume,so all it has on the front is vol,eq and power switch...i would love a marshall super bass head..but hey ho,the reason im plumping for hot rodding this amp is exactly the fact its got a relitivly plain face,as all my gear will need to be painted in uv as part of our stage precence...rave/industrial/cyber

i use an 118 atm wich gives me what i require live, but ive been using a 212 in rehersal and been plugging in a115 wich tbh has been giving me some great toned bottom,i also used last week n ashdown 300w with ashdown 410 and wasnt impressed with this, but the week before i used my 150 laney on a 412 marshall and it was fookin awsome,im toying with putting 212's back in the cab and getting some more12's and going with 412...
-
Just a rhetorical question,i have power amp thats 100/150 watts, its quite asthetically pleasing to me,i run a pre amp wich gives it a phatter sound sounds quite good driving my 212 & 115 but not convincing my self its loud enough!! Altho my laney 150 &,118 im being told is very loud, think im loosing my hearing range! Anyway i digress....to make the power more powerful say 300 watts is it just a case of swapping the output or what would need to be changed? Would it be worth the cost? Seems this (not so) power amp only cost 23£!!!!

Im scared to use my shafty now on stage incase mr hall has people trolling small city gigs looking for people playing fakers so atm im sticking to my t bird!!!! At least gibbo wont sue me as like others they make their own copies!!!! I still would get a proper ric but only second hand as the money wont got to mr hall!!! I think he has us above rapists and kiddy fiddlers as the worst kind of human beings.... Scurge of the earth....

i got one of these....@8ohm,so if i put this in my amp and my 15 im down to 3.8ish ohms, nice n smokey!!,but at the back of the sub theres several ports some dont seem to work, but the one that i use to plug it in to the amp and one other does,my question is if i plug my 15 in to the 18...the the 18 in to the amp does this still equal 3.8 ohms...or is it different, rather is it safe ??
I wouldn't bother with this head at all...
they sh*te then???
-
so realsticly i need to go bigger with the amp 300w plus!
-
but thats all i have!!,i have a 150 laney that drives my sub well,i have a power/monitor amp thas sposed to be 150 but was tested at 100w this kinda clips n farts full chat, the reason im looking at these marshalls or similar is i want a head with out graphics ect the buttons and sliders on laney are over kill...iv gone flat on eqwith the bass up,as im looking for bass....subsonic bass!! as these marshalls just have the knobs i want!! just concerned itll fart n clip full chat!!....i was only thinking the power amp did it cus it had no pre amp....but i a dded a pre amp it still does it...so concerns me owt under 150w wont drive the 18!!
-
any one ever used one of these??.....and other question....hooked up to 8ohm 118 sub!!! http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&sa=X&biw=1024&bih=556&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=pjoNsMTZLnFAIM:&imgrefurl=http://www.cashgenerator.co.uk/amplifiers/jim-marshall-2195-lead-bass-100w-amp-head-da1520&docid=pVj7d08gP2cvaM&imgurl=http://www.cashgenerator.co.uk/_images/product-details/DA15202.JPG&w=1000&h=750&ei=lQSKT7DXOpSA8gOm0-y9CQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=1469&sig=118185931539245567535&page=1&tbnh=110&tbnw=148&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:71&tx=97&ty=45

any one had experiance of the 1259?? seems to be a few floating around atm! my concern is if i drop to 100 watt head is it wont drive the 18 sub ,as the other amp wich was establised as a monitor power amp with no pre amp wont drive the 18/
