  1. Just released on YouTube. Richard Thompson live from his home studio. For Royal Albert Hall.
  2. Another of Bill McClintock's excellent mashups.
  3. Every once in awhile, YouTube throws up something out of the blue. Almost 75,000,000 views! This turned out to be just what the doctored ordered. Longing for those days...
  4. Sub'd his channel. Thanks!
  5. Not sure why, but I'm really liking that pickguard color with that bass!
  6. Another from the wayback machine. Leroy Vinnegar on bass!
  7. Wonderful pairing! If you have Amazon Music Unlimited, check out the "Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington - Cote D'Azur Concerts on Verve" box set. 8 CDs. Recorded June 26-29, 1966.
  8. This CD is in my Subie, and is up next!
  9. Sub'd. Thanks for the heads-up!
  10. I have their first three on that double CD: Maxoom, Child of the Novelty, and Strange Universe. I saw them live in a small west suburban Chicago club around '78 or '79. Fantastic show! You're right about Marino. He was excellent! And Paul Harwood was a fine bass player! EDIT: I just built a 141-song Mahogany Rush playlist on Amazon Unlimited. Gotta love it!
  11. Nice find! Thought I owned a Magna Carta CD. Turned out to be Magna Canta (Gregorian chants). But I did notice the double CD next to it...three albums by Mahogany Rush! Been decades since I've listened to it. Time for a relisten!
  12. There are only 15 30-minute episodes. I'll find out pretty quickly if it's worth watching all the way through.
  13. First I've heard of Matumbi and Empire Road. It looks like Empire Road is available for streaming in the U.S. on IMDb. I'll check it out. The premise sounds promising and enlightening.
  14. Yup. Can see them opening for Primus. First time I saw Primus, they opened for Rush.
  15. That's a blue beauty! And only £350!
  16. For reference, the US-made G&L SB-2 costs US$1500 (but it does come with a hard case). Also for reference, I have a Tribute ASCARI GTS guitar (Leo's only opposing headstock design), also made in Indonesia. It's almost flawless. Really nice finish and hardware. Are G&L basses and guitars commonly available in the U.K.? I certainly hope so. Can't afford an original '63 Fender J bass (like the one my mother gave away for free (along with my brown tweed Fender Bassman) when I was off in the Army)? The modern G&Ls are excellent alternatives to the current crop of Fenders.
  17. Hasn't been mentioned yet, but G&L Tribute basses are really good for the money. As has been mentioned, a PJ bass would be a good place to start, tone-wise. [FYI: The 'L' in G&L stands for Leo (as in Fender); it's where he went after selling Fender to CBS.] The G&L Tribute SB-2 sells for US$600 here. Not the least expensive option, but a superior bass with great playability. http://glguitars.com/product/sb-2-2/
  18. Chitty Chitty Bong Bong
  19. Wow. Thanks for the tickle (in this day of social distancing!). Reminded me of a 2-on-1 CD I own of Eydie Gorme, backed by The Trio Los Panchos. Not a lot of peeps remember that she was a Latina. They only know her from her English work with husband Steve Lawrence. They set up their own record label in Las Vegas (GL Music Co.) to release their work. I also have their CD "It's Us Again", with Steve's last name misspelled on the cover as 'Lawence'! Gotta love DIYs! Anyway, here's a full 2 album set. Eydie's voice is super, and super lovely in Spanish! EDIT: Here's their website: http://www.steveandeydie.com/. I noticed that they fixed the spelling on the CD cover. Ha!
  20. Then might I offer this up for your listening pleasure? Return To Forever's 30th anniversary tour. I was most fortunate to catch this live down in Phoenix. IIRC, their performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival (18 July 2008) is available on Blu-ray. Here's the show from San Sebastian, Spain a week later. Stanley Clarke's extended acoustic and electric bass solo is wonderful. I was 10 rows back and had an excellent view of his hands. I'm not even that good in my dreams! EDIT: The bass solo included here is half of what I saw/heard. Still excellent, but a shame that the full solo wasn't committed to tape.
  21. That was VERY cool! Two thumbs up!
  22. A vacation to the land of Lambsbread in '72 got me hooked on Toots. Here're a couple of my favs.
