  1. So, Off the back of another post i made you may be aware i've acquired a new Sterling Ray 35 HH. Now to look at i'm 100% in love with this bass - excellent weight, beautiful roasted maple neck, hardware is excellent, electronics all work as they should but......... 1st thing i noticed was an insane amount of fret buzz - didn't matter where i fretted the neck or how hard or soft i played... buzzzzzz Then there's the action - WOW it's high. the bridge saddles have plenty of room to lower that which is great BUT... with the amount of fret buzz it already has lowering it seems redundant. As the band i'm in down tune half a step, any new bass i acquire i get set up from a luthier i've used for years took it to my luthier buddy in Southampton on Sunday - he took it outta the gig bag 1st he called me an idiot for buying an Indonesian built bass (cause he hasn't seen a good one come out of the factory yet) - i honestly didn't realise the same factory that makes Sterling also make ibanez, PRS, Squire etc.... so i learnt something then he noted the slight bow forward in the neck then the fret buzz and the ridiculous action my question or more query is.... do i spend what ever is required to get this bass playable OR for a bass that cost £1150 should i have expected it to be playable right outta the box and go back to the reseller (once i have the update from the luthier as to what is actually wrong with it) and either send it back OR see if they can get it resolved. Annoyingly i REALLY like this bass (and the reseller i got it from) so i'm super torn as what to do.. hmmm (sorry for the lack of pictures but this is already with the luthier so i can't take any pics to show the state of things) thoughts?
  2. That was one of the things that drew me towards the ME50B when i saw it - KNOBS things to actually play with - an analogue pedalboard rather than all this digital stuff that's everywhere else
  3. Hey hey, So i know the pedalboard v multi effects posts are probably all over this forum so i won't go down that route... (well sort of) but i was wondering I don't usually use effects or pedals or any sort but.... i am considering it as i can think of a track or 6 that we play that might use a little something. So that said... I own a Boss ME50B - seems to have things i could use - i've owned it for years now one of my age old GAS purchases but don't know that i've ever used it should i stick with that unit OR should i get individual pedals and make a board? help me make up my mind ta Big J
  4. but if i post pics someone else might buy it before i get to it tomorrow haha i'll post pics when i've bought it
  5. Oh it's a bass i've been looking at for a good long while now Sterling by Musicman Stingray “Ray 35 HH” didn't want to go toooo crazy - and it is a bass that's going to suit my needs very nicely
  6. Probably not HEADLINE news but for us married folk - this is BIG NEWS !! i think the heat is getting to her just wanted to tell someone
  7. Sorry for a dumb question.. blerb shows active passive switch and coil split switch - but i only see one switch is it push/pull for active passive? does the treble then become a tone control? thanks in advance.
  8. Didn't actually realise that the Eich amps worked without a cab attached to them - that as quite a revelation haha. Means apart from IEM's and Headphone amp i think i'm pretty much ready to go
  9. Wowzer them's some pricy IEM's. i looked at custom fit IEM's but as we're just a local pub gigging back and don't actually gig that much - justifying customs just isn't a thing right now. but... that X32 has peaked my intrigue for sure. I'm trying to convince the band lead to grab a couple of RCF 735a's (or the 745's but they cost more) as a replacement for the old yamaha cabs we're using atm - and they'd work well with that X32 for sure... and we'd have plenty of available slots to play with too.. hmmm i'll suggest it Ooo and i looked at the Valeton Dapper too a while back now - but as i don't really use "effects" it wasn't for me.. but i am still considering a SansAmp nyc Deluxe (i think that's what it's called) - so i can preset some tones for various tracks - rather than fiddling about with the bass onboard EQ
  10. How you getting on with the KZ ZS10's? I read a lot of reviews on them but also read they struggle in a live environment and they're better for studio or gaming - so very mixed reviews.. I liked them due to their price, but am also leaning towards the mackie MP-360's - a LOT more expensive than the ZS10's but reviews for bass seem to be good.
  11. yeah went through that thread - WOW that's a lot of info Was thinking a Sansamp VT deluxe as that'll give me all the tonal options i think i'll ever need - and a solid DI
  12. Hey guys n girls of the low end variety. This must have been covered in a million places and times by now but none of my searches brought back any hits (so my wording is clearly off.. sorry).... Also sorry if this is not the ideal place. The band are considering going "silent" on stage - so no backline everything front of house. after just spending out on a eich t900 to go with the barefaced 212T this concept of "no backline" is most frustrating but... What do i need to be able to go totally back line free? IEM's - looking at the Mackie mp-360's Some sort of volume box for the IEM's to plug in too but.... this is where i get lost *worth noting i don't use any pedals at all so when live at the mo it's me -- Bass -- cable -- bass head -- bass cab ....end Going without a backline tho - do i now NEED some sort of pedals? HX-Stomp kinda thing? or can i just go direct in to the desk and off we pop? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers low end lovers. Big JHW
  13. Stunning looking bass can't find anything that tells me anywhere - is the volume control push/pull active/passive or is this just a 100% active bass?
  14. Looks identical to mine which i'm told by BF is this one https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/super-twelve.htm doesn't say which "gen" it is
  15. haha i considered that - but lets face it UK pubs and clubs "stage" area's are so small a 1m cable is still probably too long in most cases lol
  16. Hey guys n gals, 1st off sorry if this isn't quite the right forum but i think it's the best place. So i've always been one of them bass players that just shows up to the gig with the cab and head - smacks the head on top of the cab and off we go.. simple effective etc.. but i've just upgraded my bass head to a nice new Eich T900 and although i have the "gig bag" it comes with it doesn't feel very protected and i feel regular gigging is going to get them buttons mashed at some point. So i've started looking in to the idea of rack mounting it Rack mount ears are cheap enough 4u case is cheap enough but of course looking in to these things you start to look at other gear... Korg Pitchblack rack mount tuner Furman power conditioner (cause UK pubs and venues seem to have shoddy electronics i think this is a must have now i have a nice bass head) So this leaves a 1u hole in the 4u rack i figure i have 2 options at this point #1 - buy a 3u rack instead (save weight and space) or #2 - fill that hole with something else I got to thinking about rack mounted fans - but i'm not 100% sure #1 if they're needed or #2 if 1u is enough or what to get if i do So i come to the wealth of knowledge that is BASSCHAT and hope you guys n gals can shed some light on it for me. Do i need fans in the case is 1u enough space? or what other hocuspocus could i put in that 1u space? thanks in advance Big J Ooooo or - how do you package up your gear so it doesn't get damaged in transit? any cases you can recommend that'd hold the T900, cables, tuner etc (i don't do pedals so that's not an issue for me) Thanks again
  17. you didn't buy it 2nd hand from Bass Direct did ya? sold mine to bass direct.. at the time i needed a bass that my Line6 G10 transmitter could fit in and alas that ibanez slanty slot thing didn't fit the bill.. Awesome bass for the money tho.. Those Nordy Big Singles have SO MUCH ooomph to them.
  18. Love my one of these but i'm in a similar boat New drummer has an electric kit so i don't "need" a cab that pushes 1200w out if needed anymore so could possibly downsize. Be interested to see what you end up with in Trade for yours as i'm seriously considering it (tho i'd probs get 2 8ohm cabs just in case i wanted more ooomph at a bigger gig)
  19. oh my is it really that simple.. the power is equally split between the cabs it doesn't run both cabs at 500w how have i even made it to 41 years old (currently feels really dumb) thanks
  20. excuse me for seeming like a total noob but if they're 250w cabs and you're running them with a 500w head do you just have to be super careful how much you turn the head up or when running 2 does some magik happen and they can handle the 500w head? always been meaning to ask someone that question
  21. Basingstoke matie.. honestly considering trading it in for an Eich T500 tho haha same amp - but newer and as far as i can tell HAS resolved this issue. gonna wait to hear back from Eich (hopefully) to see what they suggest.
  22. Hey, So picked up a TecAmp Puma 500 1st gig and spotted a problem that appears to be caused by the fact i'm putting it in to my Barefaced 212T (not an issue that anyone would have known about if they were using an 8ohm cab or a more sensible 4 ohm cab - apparently just a ME problem haha) The Puma 500 is a gen 1 so doesn't have an internal fan looks like putting it through my 212T 4ohm is causing "something" to over heat and sound to cut off. Someone did make a post about TecAmp saying some 4 ohm cabs run "low impedance" which causes the power amp to get too warm and cut out. They said there was a mod of adding a little internal fan to amp which should resolve the issue. I know nothing about electronics so i'd be the WORST person in the world to try and do this but there are some amazing people here on bass chat and i was hoping there might be someone local to Basingstoke Hampshire (UK) that might know how to do this for me and have a part to do it probably involves installing a fan (of some sort) connecting it to the power and probably some wizardry with other wires and bits.. otherwise it's probably going to mean new cabs or selling this amazing sounding bass head and getting something like a markbass tube800 instead.. (which i don't really wanna do) thanks in advance.
  23. Amazing cab Stunned this hasn't been snapped up yet (if i didn't already have exactly the same cab.....) GLWS
