1. I flipped it so everything is sitting a little better BUT i'm not in love with it. Bass is hard
2. thanks - I'll give it a measure. the intonation screw fell out when i put the bass down to take the picture. I've taken the floaty bit that holds the bridge saddles (don't know the technical term) and there are more holes on the other side that look like a closer match to where the anchors are so i'm flipping it around to see if it fits better. If I buy a new bridge what do i need to look for? do i get a different bridge depending on the width of my neck or do i match the spacing at the nut end? Thanks
3. Hmmm i'm not confident I'd drill new holes in the right place Should I be aiming for a straight line from the anchor to the nut?
4. I had an issue with a bad XLR a while ago and Radial responded pretty quickly after I filled in the contact form on their website. They were pretty helpful. Their UK distributor is polar.uk.com (but they never responded to emails).
5. Appreciate all your help with this
6. so i shouldn't worry about them pulling to the left and right? The anchor points are spaced differently than the saddles and there is no groove on the saddle for the string to sit in so they don't stay sat on them very well. Is this just a problem because my strings are loose?
7. Hello there Long time lapsed bass player getting back into things but trying to be a little more technical rather than hit strings poorly. With that in mind I picked up a cheap bass off ebay that had some issues so that I could fix and learn. Apparently though 10 minutes of internet research doesn't qualify me to be a world class luthier (who knew?). So i have bass with a volume knob that buzzes when i touch it. It looked like the tone pot wasn't grounded properly so i poorly soldered some cable and the issue didn't magically fix itself. Should i just rip all this out and replace? Was also expecting to see some grounding to the bridge but doesn't seem to be or any channel to get to the bridge. The bridge also appears kind of janky - is this just because the screws that set the height are at mismatched heights? The spacing between the saddle seems different to the spacing of the holes Finally the neck and body all seem to be one piece of wood so I'm guessing I have no truss rod? There is a screw in the cavity near to the bottom of the neck but that kind of looks like it's holding the top part of the bass to the bottom but could it be for something else? The bass is too cheap to take to an expert and I did buy it to learn some of this stuff (it's not my main bass) so any advice (even if it is to throw it in a skip) would be welcome Thanks Richard
8. Thanks for all the welcomes! I live a few streets from Railway Road! Have a mate that lives there
9. I think I'll be sticking some flats on my bass very soon (just to see if I'll like them). Was looking at the La Bella flats but as i'm pretty clueless any other suggestions? As i'm a little lazy how often would i need to change them? Can't I just keep them on forever? rich
10.
I think until Citeh start challenging for trophies, not many players who are at top clubs will be tempted. CL qualification is a must, but i can't see it happening this year even if they do buy some players in the transfer window. MASSIVE!
groan - at least I should be thankful you didnt write ciddy hearing rumours today that we've already paid for Kaka and Villa is coming as well. Of course with city being city I expect a big kick in the nuts and we'll probably sign marcus bent and sell SWP and Robinho and our owners go bust over night - fingers crossed
11. gotta love those pork pies...how are you pronouncing the name of your band? is it lasse like the dog?
12.
Welcome Richieclare, Great taste in bassplayers mate, good effort.
Yeah I like the guys who i might one day be able to play like (by one day I mean with 20 years of solid practice) rather than the double thumbers of this world.
13. Some big rumours this weekend Villa is coming for £50m due to Valencia being skint. fingers crossed. Wouldn't mind a sneaky bid for vidic or evra ;-) Dream signing would be Kaka but it's a bit hard even accepting that he's heard of us let alone would play for us. @veils - i have a friend who lives in the flats just opposite asda at eastlands. i dropped her home wednesday night after practice just as city & psg was finishing and then had to drive back to old trafford just as united & blackburn finished. nightmare! @deaver - had a ticket for the everton game but then remembered that i'm going out for christmas so can't make it :-( have fun - hopefully robinho and swp will be fit and they'll put on a show for you. Staying with some newly weds not going to be a bit awkward? thank to all the fellow blues for the welcome. Might not get much bass playing done in January but might try for a little Blue Moon
14. 100% Blue and looking forward to January :-) I stupidly live near old trafford though Bring a hat and gloves Deaver cos it's pretty cold at the mo. Visiting any where nice?
15. Hey I've only ever played 1 5-string so I'm hesitant to post but I have had a lot of fun with the yamaha bb605. Pretty easy to play and sounds good too. I always found the b to be a bit dull but that could have been anything from my amp, technique, strings or ears. I realise it is a pretty useless recommendation seeing as it is the only one of played so ymmv Thanks Rich
16.
Allparts give dimensions on their site, so should be easy to match the knob you've got left. If it's like my Spector the pots are split shaft, so it could be these. http://www.allparts.uk.com/dome-knobs-spli....html?p=product The problem I had was the knobs are fixed with a grub screw, which had been tightened against the split shaft, which bent inwards. Could that be why yours are falling off?
forgive me for being a complete spoon - the shaft has a vertical groove does this mean it is a split shaft? Does this mean only split shaft pots will fit? Sorry for being a complete idiot any clarification will be great
17.
DO NOT GOOGLE THE WORD KNOB! Nothing else to add except welcome. Paul.
I googled bass knob and all i saw was pictures of Mark King. As I'm not sure of which players it is cool or uncool to like on this board let me please specify that this was a joke and I only said it because i am jealous of his mad skills (or am I?) I'm not sure of the official name for them but are all the stalks that the pot fits on of a standard size or do I need ones specifically made for spector?
18. Hey there just introducing myself in order to be polite I am Richard been playing bass for close to 10 years after failing to get even close to sounding like Hendrix on guitar and then being mistaken for a bass player. I mimed for the first 6 months because I had no idea what I was doing. Despite playing for so long I've only owned my own bass for 1 year - a spector legend 4 string in amberhurst. The church has a yamaha bb605 so I played that for a while before getting my own. I like to keep my strings on for too long and play with a flat battery for extra sounding rubbishness. I used to play through a pod but just recently I've started trying to simplify my life and playing style so now just go dry straight into an amp - a marshall 33watt something or another. I'm self taught so my hands are constantly aching and my frets continually buzzing. I play in a church with a couple of different band leaders so depending on who is leading I play rock, gospel, reggae, souly stuff which mostly sounds like me going bom diddy diddy diddy bom bom and hoping no one can actually hear me. My church just got permission to move into a brand new building so in the next few months I'll be looking at trying out some new amps and messing about with effects. My favourite players are James Jamerson and Larry Graham so no surprises there although I don't get even close to grooving like those guys. I like bass chat because I can occasionally understand what you guys are talking about thanks
19. Hey there First time poster. How you doing? I have a spector legend which is rapidly losing knobs. Out of the original 4 I only have 1 left. I normally have enough trouble buying strings so I thought I'd check with the experts before I spend some of the christmas fund. Where is the best place to buy from and are they all a standard size? I'm not necessarily looking for anything fancy like skulls just a plain old pot. Many thanks Rich
