1.
his fingerstyle and chordal playing is exceptional and he,s not known for it
+1 Always prefered his fingerstyle stuff to the machine-gun slap. Learned a lot about feel and timing from playing along to stuff like Good Man In A Storm and It's Over. He needs to sort out that thin 80s tone though, it's terrible!
2. We used to rehearse in this place which was terrible, except for the fact that they had.... ...a Trace 4x10 combo, which sounded great. Guess who used to do the bookings.
3. In reply to the OP's question (about 3000 posts ago), I've seen cover bands use this quite effectively using a trigger pad fired off by the drummer. Worked well on stuff like Dakota by Stereophonics where there's a very specific effect sample at the start of the song which the band then plays along to. You could programme different stuff on different pad and get the drummer to fire it off on the fly.
4.
Once we packed the gear away we were pretty shocked when we were given £30 (£10 each)
That's disgusting. Are they saying they only took £300 behind the bar? Someone's pulling a fast one I think.
5. Sounds good - loads of energy. We do this one too and people seem to love it (once they're hammered!). Looks like a great gig.
6. If it's just for home practice - get something cheap and put the rest of the money towards your gigging stuff.
7. Simmering GAS from last year for a Hartke LH500, boiled over when my Trace head went bang. Got one now and loving it. Simple, loud and great smooth sound. Edit: surprisingly GAS free on the bass front, since selling on the Stingray, Precision etc and keeping the ones I actually gig.
8. Amazing collection you've got there. Despite the trophy ones though, I prob like Yammy and the Aria the best!
9. What a great place to have a first gig. Glad you enjoyed it!
10. Sounds scary! Get a new decent kettle lead, me thinks.
11.
I'll take a look at the other suggestions.
Take a look at the JTS NX8. They get very good reviews. We use the cheaper version (JTS929) in our band and those work a treat.
12. That's cool - I like it.
13. Steve Rowse is very good - based Godalming. Has fixed all my Trace stuff in the past.

Raggy

+1 for Raggy. Bought his LH500. Really nice guy to deal with.
15. The Mark Bass stuff is nice - but it is very clean sounding. Lots of people like that - but for me, it was too clean and clinical. Defo worth trying before you buy. If you're not bothered about lightweight, would defo recommend looking at the new Hartke HyDrive range. I've just started using the LH500 head in a cover band and would say it's perfect for that kind of stuff.* *would save you a few quid too!
16. Used mine in anger for the first time at a gig last weekend. Great tone and power through my 4x10. Best bass sound I've had in a long while, actually. Didn't have to do much tweaking to get it either - just boosted the treble a bit. Made the floor rumble and my trousers flap, which is all good.
17. Would anyone like me to bring my Westone Thunder 1A for a bit of nostalgia?
18. Oh no, I'm getting GAS again for a 1100s. Aargh! Can anyone tell me how the 80s ones compare to the current reissues? Heavier? Different sound? I love my new BB614 so interested to know the difference. Anyone bringing an old BB to the South East bash?

LH 500

Used mine in anger for the first time at a gig last night. Great tone and power through my 4x10. Best bass sound I've had in a long while, actually. Didn't have to do much tweaking to get it either - just boosted the treble a bit. Made the floor rumble and my trousers flap, which is all good. Only downside is that in a rack, it is a heavy bugger.

21. Still got my Thunder 1A - great for home recording. Built like a tank.
22.
I would kill for a live sound that fat (or is it 'phat' these days?)
Great active bass sound. It's the sound I have stuck in my head. Damn the 80s!
23.
For just sheer, uncoloured boost go with an Aguilar.
Don't you get a pre-amp to add colour? Confused.
