1. Never been able to get on with Ricks - it's the weird shape. That and they're f'ugly!
2. This looks cools tombboy. Am very jealous. Please keep us updated with pics - I'd love a studio at the end of the garden.
3. As if lead guitarists need to get any more arrogant...
4.
' post='338926' date='Nov 27 2008, 09:17 PM']....stripped off the heat-shrink on the CCFL.....
You've lost me! Looks cool though - would love the UV effect on my stuff. Perhaps you could offer this as a service to us Trace users?
5. Always been really good and efficient. Their lighting stuff is great value for money - beware their own brand cables though. I bought a couple and they were crackling after a couple of gigs. The only catch is that you have to order over a certain amount to get free delivery but you can always top up with gaffa tape etc. Think twice about mail ordering big stuff like amps though. It's much easier to deal with your local store if something goes wrong with your bulky 4x10 rather than a firm in Germany.
6.
So my question is, how do you decide on the purchase thats going to mean so much to you, when you're so scared you could get it totally wrong!!!
Try it out in a shop. Don't buy one mail order. Buy the one that feels comfortable for you, not just the one that looks nice/has the right name of the headstock. You're more likely to play something that feels nice, rather than a heavy American bass that feels like an effort to play. Good luck hunting!
7. Everything's giggable, we're just spoiled these days. Defo worth getting the action sorted so it plays nice.
8. I once sneezed while playing a bassline and ended up doing a chromatic run in double quick time. Haven't managed it since.
9. Tuner stomp box. Essential for gigging.
10.
...only require a vocal PA these days, so we were looking for a pair of compact, quality powered 12s....
John - check out Alto's powered 12s. I've gigged the low powered version of these (the LAs) for three years now, troublefree (apart from a replacement input jack - wear and tear). They pack a punch, sound like hi-fi speakers and are super easy to load in and out of the car. Seriously, the sound of these are as good (if not better) than powered Mackies. As 12s, they're also smaller. We chose them after listening to everything from Mackie to Wharfedale. We'd never heard of Alto but couldn't get over how good they sounded, so took a punt.
11.
E-bay. Seriously if you aren't in a hurry, you'll get much better/more from your money, by buying used.
PA's prob the one thing I wouldn't buy used from Ebay - you don't know where it's been/how hard it's been thrashed. One thing I defo wouldn't buy is a secondhand mic. A singer in my last band bought used SM58s from Ebay. Imagine the germs in those. Eurgh.
12. That looks nice. Price a bit scary in current climate though!
13. It looks like a 130w. I paid £150 for my 250w version and that was in very good condition.
14. If you're playing pubs and small venues you need a PA just for vocals. Use your backline amps for everything else.
15. I'd keep it and buy something tiny for home use. All big amps tend to sound a bit rubbish in the house, I find. I practice through a small mixer and some powered speakers.
16. I've got an Ibanez SZ320 in excellent condition with an Ibanez heavy duty gig bag. Black. Great tone and great feel. Strung-thru mahogany body. PM me if you're interested.
17. Have you got any pics please and do you need any help switching the caps lock off?
18. I really like the Dan/Fagen solo stuff but I wish they'd smile once in a while. They look miserable when they play!
19.
A great French Bass for sale !
<bing bong> "Could Ped come to the checkout please?"
20. That's great, thanks. I'll get the wife to study these so she can re-create them with our snappy camera when we next play the local pub. Only teasing...they're great shots.
21. Paul Denman there. Clearly in 1984, there was a nationwide shortage of bass guitar straps.
22. Had my ear impressions done for the ProGuards today by the ear man at my local opticians. Posted them off, so hopefully will get the finished articles back in a couple of weeks. If anyone's interested, I'll do a review of them. Audiologist did a hearing test while I was there too. Was dreading being told that my hearing was shot to pieces but it's actually ok. He did say there was a range of notes that I wasn't hearing as well as I could be... .....the bass ones. Explains a lot.
23.
Hmmm, ordered the Proguards on Sunday, they phoned today to offer me a fitting appointment at the end of November or December. Not too impressed by that, Told them so and they said they'd see what they could do and would call me back. I'm still waiting
That's odd - I ordered a pair too and they called today and offered me this Weds or Fri. If you're in London, you should have plenty of options. Give them another call.
