1. I really like SD albums and Fagen's solo stuff but I do find him/them a bit smug and miserable. They never look like they enjoy playing live.
2. It's basically a £100 bass with a good set-up. But if he takes the time and trouble that he claims he does, it could play really nicely. As always, buyer beware, though.
3.
How does this sound in comparison to say.... an ampeg B2R? If it's still for sale in a couple of months i might have it
Funnily enough I can tell you - as I've used both! The Ampeg's got a good squashy sound but it's very limited in what it does, this has got a cleaner sound but you can do more with it. You can make it scooped (like a Trace), brighter and deeper really easily. Lots of EQ options.
4. You need one of these. Anything less and you'll be selling yourself short.
5. Looks like a dogs dinner and I like a bit of graphite!
6. Nice - you'll love gigging that.
7.
Ah, a nice piece of old wood in front of a nice piece of new wood!
That was fun to play. A '59 (IIRC) P with flatwounds. Played a bit of James Jamerson on it as it felt appropriate!
8. If I hadn't found this site, I'd have been perfectly happy with an OLP Stingray and a Fender Rumble combo. Current set-up is good though. Glad I slimmed down my bass collection to three that I actually use. Bit of a surplus on the amp front, but I'm still experimenting.
9. There's a book with a load in called Jamiroquai: Essential Bass Transcriptions but it's out of print. More info here.
10. Deepest sympathy Nick. If I can come along and help raise some cash, I will.
11. 100w on full. Now I have a 300w amp that also seems to be on full most of the time. Drummers must be getting louder. Or perhaps I am.
12.
Sadly i have to part with some basses of my collection , cause i have to pay in next future for a mba master that costs a lot
I'd like to believe you, but the list of 30 or so (expensive) sold basses on your website suggests you're a dealer.
13.
What sort of articles are in the last couple of issues?
14.
I know what you were really after. A Streamline
Yeah - you're right. Half a Status would have been better than none at all.
15. Best sound: Trace Elliot vintage stuff Bad back award: Trace combos - esp the 4x10s. Ouch! Appliance of Science Award: Mark Bass and the rest of the light brigade Deafen the drummer award: Ampeg 8x10
16. Thanks for all PMs. Now sold to pete.young who was first off the blocks.
17. I've given him the details of where I bought my G&L, so there's no excuse.
18. Anyone got any good online places to buy black gaffa/gaffer tape please? We seem to go through it like toilet rolls in a flatshare in our band! Edit: I'm thinking - other than Ebay - before you say it!
19. *SOLD* Brand new copy of 'Standing In The Shadows' book (inc CDs) and the matching DVD documentary about James Jamerson and the rest of the Motown house band.
20.
I think selling this and buying another bass is a fantastic idea. I doubt after your next purchase you''ll even look at another bass again, let alone buy one.
