I'd quite like this to match my Johnny Rotten wireless mic. -

If you insist... Wag The Dog, we're a three piece doing punk, indie, and ska type covers around Guildford in Surrey. Lots of parties, a few pubs and the odd wedding. Crap name, but we're pretty tight with loads of energy. Frontman's a cheeky chappy too - good with the banter. Been going nearly two years and is a good laugh.
So what was just a favour to a friend rehearsed (after a fashion) for one evening at a mates house could turn into a lucrative little sideline.
Sounds promising....

Hmm..don't want to be a spoilsport but isn't bass a mono sound?
-
Despite a current roster of about 50 songs that I gig regularly, I always forget every bassline I know when anyone says "play something".
-
Pub in SW London. Bit of a locals out of the way place. Crap acoustics in past - you kind of play facing a wall, which bounces the PA straight back at you, resulting in early feedback. Means I have to try to get the guitarist to turn his Marshall down, which confuses him. I don't think he's read that bit in the manual yet. Crowd warmed up though and whooped and hollared in the second half. We went for it, playing all the big punky stuff we do and got lots of compliments. Bloke came up to me in the break and said: "I've seen a lot of bands mate, and you're one of the best drummers I've seen in ages...". So I must be making a good impression. Gave my Status Stingray a blast too for the first time.
-
Gave this a blast at a pub gig last night. Neck's really fast and smooth, which is great. Sounded good, with nice sustain and plenty of power. Thought it maybe sounded at bit harsh at home but sits nicer with a drummer - totally different sound when up loud. But that's a SR thing, I think. They're not very good "bedroom basses" but plugged through an amp in anger, they do the job brilliantly. Looks the mutts on stage too, really stealth. Bloke in the pub said to me in the break: "like your Stingray mate..." This post is dedicated to Marcus, who's GASsing for one of these really badly.

These scammers know their basses!

Good shots. I'm guessing you're not a folk band.
Promise that you'll bring twenty mates who are heavy (but polite) drinkers.
+1. Drop into conversation that you've "got a pretty big following" whether you have or haven't and round up friends and family for the first gig. Landlords generally organise band nights to make money, not because they're music lovers. +1 on the first answer about getting a CD and some sort of website. lemonrock.co.uk is a good one if you don't have your own. better than myspace for cover bands, I reckon.

My old 4x10 Trace combo's gone to live at a new home (guitarist's son) so won't be able to bring it. Could bring the 1x15 though (715 300w) if people would like to have a go on that.
Pay to gig? Get out of here - peeps should receive payment for gigging.
Easy fella, this is a really good course run by trade body, the Music Industries Association. It's not a money making scheme. It's a great course for bedroom musicians who don't know how to make the leap from bedroom to band. The money covers rehearsal fees and instrument loan. There are usually good discounts at the end of it with local guitar shops.

How much swapping of basses goes on here?
stingrayfan replied to Annoying Twit's topic in General Discussion
I bought a really nice US Precision from jonthebass, tried it, found it wasn't really for me and sold it back to him for the same price, 6 months later. You wouldn't get that on Ebay! Edit: My Trace Elliot stuff is also from this site.
